By in Australia,

I love how even the criminals in Lego City wear life-jackets. Robbing banks, embezzling trust funds, stealing the life savings from retired Lego citizens? All these things are on the table, but water safety is important.

I really liked this style of boat. I don't own enough of these, from the 90s, and I bought lots of Police sets.

Hmm, the instructions link on this one seems to be broken.

Look at them patrol that coast.

How do we even know if that dude is a criminal? The captain just seems to be waving at him and he even has the same face as the other policeman! Clearly it’s just his twin brother who came over to say hi while he was off-duty.

Picked this up after my first Dark Age (of 2). I wasn't into police sets, but I really just wanted it for the parts...particularly the light and sound pieces.

Those 6 wide brick-built boat bow parts sadly haven't been used in new sets since 2004.

LEGO still makes those angled bow parts in recent sets, but they are the 10 wide version, most recent example being used in the Friends 2020 41433-1: Party Boat.

For 6 wide boats , LEGO uses more rounded parts now, but they aren't stackable :

Shell 6X10X2 Inv. or Inverted R.T. 6X10 W.Doubl.Bow

I personally prefer angled parts more.

Huwbot going strong with the classics. Not that I'm complaining. I was lucky to get one of them light and sound sets, but stupid enough to forget the batteries in it. Which led to a leak and corrosion in the battery box. Still waiting for me to re-wire it so that I can use it in a MOC.

That light system was so cool. And sound too? Wow!

Light, sound, AND a little motor to spin the radar!

I wonder what this guy did in his tiny boat to warrant such a response from the coast guard

It's funny how the first page in the instructions booklet warns that you may not mix different types of batteries in the box where only one 9 volt battery fits in it.

The boat looks way too small in proportion to the mini-figs. Even if they had captured a master criminal (the black bags, stubble and Elvis disguise give it away) where were they going to put him with such a low ceiling height below deck, which is taken up by the battery box. From the instructions there don't seem to be any trailing wires anywhere which is really cool. There must have being a conducting strip in the 2x8 white plate to power the radar motor? The battery box is only half the height of the usual train battery box with 9V, so far more easier to incorporate into models. Not forgetting the light, sound and tiny motor which would also be great in today's city sets. Did someone forget that all this technology existed?

I remember once seeing several of these heavily discounted in the independent toy shop not far from Brickset Towers itself. Gutted I didn't grab more at the time for those lovely micro-motors!

Compared to the junk we see from City Police nowadays, this looks like Citizen Kane!

Really the main issue with this set is the Police badge sticker over 2 parts.

But probably could be put on a single black slope if moved down and to the left a bit and cut.

Also, it's been since 2016 since the last larger Police Boat (2018 had a River Speedboat or 2020 Dinghy, but both are much smaller)

Interesting, 6353 Coastal Cutter was still available in that year, last set of all the harbour sets. And in my opinion 6353 is the better set. The look is more elegant, the colors are nicer and more marina-style, it has better pieces and better play function.

Ok so, did anyone as a kid read that Lego System logo as "Lego Sysiem"? Or was I just a dumbass kid?

This was one of my favorite sets as a kid, but as most kids I would take it apart and build other things with the pieces. Luckily I also kept all the original building instructions for all my sets, so I could build it back up again. I still have it on a shelf today, working electronics and everything. Only thing missing are the stickers on it that overlapped two or more pieces... I'm so glad they don't do that anymore.
