Earn 150 free VIP points!
Posted by CapnRex101,
The LEGO VIP Rewards Centre is offering an opportunity to earn 150 VIP points by taking a Harry Potter quiz!
Answering six questions correctly should earn the points, although I have seen some reports that simply completing the quiz is sufficient.

Remember the good old days where 100 points could get you 5 bucks instead of dumb old art prints?
Nice I'm gonna definitely do this
Woohoo! That's $1.15!

Back when the system was terribly broken and anyone could use anyone's email to spend all of their points? Ah, yeah. The good old days.
Someone post the answers here please.
You need to answer 6 out of 9 questions correctly. And all questions are story events happened in Diagon alley.
I know nothing about Harry Potter, but google is your friend, and voila! +150 vip points on my account. Now i need 73 more to get the amount needed to redeem for discount...

Really?? JFGI.
And, on that note:
Thanks for the points, Google!
Points in the new and old system are roughly the same as in you'll get up to 5% of your spent money back in discount on follow-up purchases. The old system was more clear to users, the new system is more clear to TLG. Both systems were broken from a software engineering point of view.
For funs and giggles, I answered the quiz with the top answer to every question. Ended up having 1 question correct and still got the 150 points. That is very generous, thank you Lego!

The old system worked fine for me. Better than the current one for sure.
My points were never taken by anyone.

Same!
150 VIP points in the UK is 93p, almost but not quite a £1.
Used Google and got 8 out of 9.
How many times does Hagrid tap the wall with his umbrella to enter Diagon Alley? The quiz uses the movie, not the book, for the answer.
As above, Google got me 8 out of 9.
Also remember that this type of thing is perfect if you happen to be 150 points short of the voucher you want to redeem on your next purchase.
Never look a gift horse etc. etc.
Really nice quiz, but I only got 7 out of 9. Guess it's time to reread the books...

To be completely fair to LEGO, all the sets are based on the films rather than the books.
I actually used the set and the back of the box to figure out certain names, as you can tell which shop does what from the pieces included. I actually googled the number of taps, and found a clip from the movie that showed it, so all in all, it wasn't too hard to get the 9/9. But I guess I understand the movie vs book argument.
Just did it, 2 answers wrong, and got the 150 points.
I’d like to offload a few VIP points on money-off vouchers to take the sting out of that Diagon Alley price. Is it possible to redeem several vouchers off the same purchase? E.g. I could have 2x€100 vouchers to spend against the set? Is it possible to use both together or is it one voucher per purchase? (Hoping it’s the former.)
I've done 1 voucher and 1 gift card on the same purchase, so I'd be inclined to say it'd work, but you can always give them a call to check!
I’m not a Harry Potter fan, but with the help of my wife (who is) got all 9. I knew that Harry got an owl though, so I still contributed, right?
Like that LEGO offers some free points this way. They must’ve seen how popular all the Brickset quizzes have been.

Another 150 points up my sleeve!
Question: Will there ever be any more opportunities like this?
EDIT: Looks like the actual answers have been posted in the comments, so feel free to just look at those :)
As others have said in the comments, you need to answer 6 out of 9 correctly to get the points.
I was able to get 8 out of 9 searching through this wiki page:

When they changed the system over, they also changed the exchange rates for points, so 100 old points is the same as 650 points (for a $5 coupon) today!
I personally think the art prints are pretty neat, and I love the free sets that are available for points now

Lol what? The old VIP system worked very efficiently and the probability of stealing someone's points is extremely rare. A addition of security features could prevent that, not a shoddy overhaul done in an afterthought.
People on the internet can be pretty horrible especially in public fora/comments sections. Once in a blue moon though, someone acts kindly for no better reason than knowing it helped others. Thanks @Tinker97 for being one of those who makes the internet a nicer place.

I don’t get what you’re saying (and furthermore 19 seem to agree with you.) A $99.99 set earns one 650 points which is redeemable for a $5 voucher. Same as the “old” system. You don’t *have* to choose “dumb old art prints.”
If you give an AFOL a cookie... they’ll complain that there are crumbs...
I know almost nothing about Harry Potter, but got all the answers but one from reading about the set on the LEGO site. The other answer I got right here, in the first words of the Diagon Alley article: "LEGO has tapped the brick three up and two across..." So thanks Huw!
And the extra 150 points are appreciated, so thanks LEGO!

Yes you can! I called customer service about this and they said any vouchers can be mixed and matched in checkout (so you could stack a 100, 50, 25 if you wanted to), but you cannot get a set for free. I wanted to use 4x $100 vouchers on Diagon Alley but the representative told me that it wouldn’t work since the set is $399.99.
The new VIP system is awesome because it lets you redeem points for (very reasonably priced) older GWP sets, but it’s also kind of annoying when redeeming points for money off since you have to go through all of this voucher stuff rather than being able to directly apply points at checkout.

You could get 3 $100 vouchers, 4 $20 vouchers, and 3 $5 vouchers and pay just $4.99.

Or add a small item / Pick a Brick
i got 3 right and got the points
Thanks guys for the advice on using VIP points for vouchers, I took the plunge and got a hefty discount off Diagon Alley. Thanks again! :)

...err, I mean points.
Confirming that getting only one (1) correct answer will earn you 150 VIP points.

The new system is more complex, and I expect they'll be improving it later. But I think they had to change out the old system because it couldn't take currency conversion rates into account.
Semi-related question on the Get More VIP Points page, what does the box mean which says "Received an offer code? Enter it here to earn your VIP points!" ? What are offer codes and where do you get one? Is that the same thing as voucher codes?
For those who are not experts: https://www.reddit.com/r/legodeal/comments/ik62jg/lego_vip_us_150_free_vip_points_for_harry_potter/.
Really? Posting all the answers here?
I know nothing about HP, never read the books, only saw bits of the movies when the kids watched them. Got 4 out of 9 and still received the 150 points.
I got 4 out of 9 and I got my 150. Looking forward to the day when Lego stops making Harry Potter sets and explores other territory.

You know, that's what I thought when they launched it a year ago, but here we are, and they haven't.
150 free VIP points, what’s not to like? Didn’t know any answers myself, but google assisted to ensure I got mine :-)
ha ha ,only 2 wrong and I haven't seen the movies or read the books, looks like it's my lucky day.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!
Got 4 right and got the points anyway. Marvellous!
Are Lego having a moment and just giving away points?
I went to take the quiz, but I have to edit my profile, but I can't make any progress; I can't save unless I make a change, and once I make a change and save it, I am back to the screen with 'save' not being available unless I make a change again... on and on apparently.
I'm not surprised that this isn't working for the Mexican site. After clicking on the banner, it redirects you to the rewards page, but not to the quizz (and it's no where to be found).
@Meowzap77:
Remember the good old days when spending $100 only earned you 100 points? In the US, we get 650 points on that same set these days. The functional return has not actually changed, but the points in the middle have, because it used to be possible to earn points in one market with a less valuable currency, and then cash them in when you visit a market where they're worth more money. The current points system was basically intended to flatten the value of 1 Point so there wasn't any real benefit to hauling your points over the border.
@fakespacesquid:
What I heard was that they figured out that some of the store employees were dirty dealing the points system. Many customers come in and decline to get a VIP account, and store employees could simply create one on a new card and scan that card in for every customer who makes a purchase without a VIP account attached. They would then rack up thousands of points every week, which could earn them probably a few thousand dollars in rebate annually. The new system made it much harder for them to do this, as the original rollout forced you to provide a mailing address for every points redemption. Either you were using LEGO.com, and needed an address for them to ship the product to, or you needed to redeem the points for a gift card that could be used in a LEGO Store, and they needed to mail that to you. Either way, it made it a lot easier for them to flag employee addresses for unusual amounts of activity. Now, they can probably still cheat the system, since you can get a voucher attached to your account for brick-n-mortar purchases.
@LukeSkywalker:
Yes. Originally, the new system only allowed use of one redemption amount per purchase, but they corrected that. You can load up on $5 vouchers and burn them all on a single set.
@Rob42:
What do you mean? They've absolutely improved the updated VIP system. They used to only allow the use of a single voucher per purchase, and now they allow unlimited vouchers. They used to require you _buy_ something online to trigger a shipment to get a gift card that you could then take to your local store, and now it can all be handled online. They used to require you to redeem points online for use in stores (and hope they didn't sell out of whatever you wanted to buy), and now LEGO Store employees can cash in points for you (you just have to remember to ask them to do this _before_ they ring you up, as it can't be done in the middle of a purchase transaction). Sounds improved to me.
These were the easiest 150 VIP points ever.
LEGO should do this more often...specially to make up for their lies when it comes to the end of regional exclusives.
I got 6 right. I have never seen a full Harry Potter film. :)
I didn't know any of the answers but "used the Force" and was able to get 9 out of 9 correct and score the 150 points!
