Bleak new year in prospect for UK LEGO fans

Posted by ,

The UK government has just announced that most of the country will enter tier 4 lockdown on Thursday. Almost all brand stores are in now tier 4 areas, or their equivalent in Wales and Scotland, which means that very few will be able to open New Year's Day. Although we might consider them as 'essential' I don't think the government would agree.

Furthermore, LEGO is not currently shipping orders to the country without paying a hefty premium, following problems at the channel ports last week. The LEGO.com website is displaying a message stating that "although the EU border has reopened, we're still unable to send any Standard Delivery orders to the UK and Ireland until DPD resumes service. Express delivery is still an option but will likely take longer than normal to be delivered."

Of course there are more important things to worry about at the moment but with LEGO providing a much-needed respite from the boredom of lockdown and barrage of depressing news, this is a problem we could do without. Still, it could be worse: at least our imports from the continent won't be subject to tariffs next year as well...

Amazon, yes, but it won't be selling the exclusives like the Police Station.

It's a very sad time and honestly I hope things do get better for everyone with the current world events happening. When we can go back into an lego store again, it will be worthwhile! Stay safe everyone and let's hope 2021 is a better year for all of us!

Clearly more important considerations. Best wishes to all. I think that Liverpool and Leeds remain in Tier 3.

Hope the lockdown in the UK works better than in the US. My friends in the US says people are living like there’s no Covid there (eg. Partying and gathering as usual) despite ever increasing number of cases. No one cares anymore and every state has like over 5% infected already. Might as well try for herd immunity

I guess I'll be waiting a little longer to buy the Police Station modular then. On a more positive note, Scottish LEGO fans like myself can look forward to the opening of a new brand store in Edinburgh in the Spring!

With that new covid strain on the states now, I could see us getting another lockdown :P hang in there across the pond, we'll get through this eventually.

With reference delivery to UK, I ordered on 27th December and I also received the warning about shipping. However, proceeded with order with standard delivery. It’s been shipped today :-)

Well, yes, lockdowns do work, provided people stay home. Herd immunity is a very long shot, and it might not work. And, since the article hints at it, same goes for Brexit. Both are - like it or not - facts.

If you're in the UK you should be more concerned with building guillotines than Lego sets

I was just at my local Lego store pretty much when I heard the new lockdown was coming again. It seemed like a pretty good excuse to get the Ecto 1. Probably the first time I've ever bought anything substantial from the Lego store without any freebies to sweeten the deal.

It shouldn't be too long before the deliveries start up again, my better half had an order ship from Swarovski in Austria in two days (ordered the 28th, delivered today) so I can't see it being a long running issue.

To all the folks over in the UK, hope ya’ll are staying safe over there! Sorry to hear the sets will be arriving later than usual.

Is it still possible to order with standard delivery in the UK so that they hold the order and dispatch it as soon as DPD resume their delivery service? I was hoping to order the police station on Friday to get the free Lego Ideas car (assuming that will be a gwp on the 1st).

I'd been keeping an eye out for 21323 Grand Piano to come back into stock, and be able to ship to The UK. Yesterday it popped up on Amazon UK with 5 instalments totalling list price. It was delivered today. There are a few ways around the blockages if you get lucky.

It sounds like we will have to call all ships to start bringing troops...minifig troops...across the channel from France. It's been done before and we can do it again. Let's support our boys across the pond! Uh...does anyone know a guy with a boat I can borrow???
