25 projects qualify in latest LEGO Ideas review period

Posted by ,

The LEGO Ideas team has just confirmed that 25 projects have qualified in the 3rd review period of 2020.

A broad range of ideas made the cut: some that have no hope of passing review due to expired or unsuitable licences, or similar products already having been produced, but there are also some that would fly off the shelves if they ever come to fruition, in particular Wallace and Gromit.

Take a look through the list after the break and let us know which ones you stand a chance of becoming products. And, if someone could explain to me what the heck TX Master Games is supposed to be and how it reached 10k supporters, I'd appreciate it.

By in United Kingdom,

Some really neat ideas there! Looking forward to seeing which one(s) are picked.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Police station has no chance if you ask me—for obvious reasons.

My guess is the lighthouse. Or maybe avatar (blue people avatar)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Hope the roman ship will be released

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I'm going to guess the castle for this round given how well the pirate island went over. The rest are either too samey to current/previous releases or IP-based.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The videos for the garbage truck working are mesmerizing. Would not mind at all to get one of those.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I'm rooting for Bag End and Wallace and Gromit.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I wish people would get the hint:

Lego’s modulars are a sainted tradition and they’re never going to pick one from the Ideas stable and make a set out of it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Fingers crossed for the Viking Village and the Roman Ship!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wallace & Gromit and Avatar The Last Airbender are what I'm rooting for. Maybe Milwaukee Art Museum as well.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Castle all the way, come on TLG it’s time!

Lighthouse looks good too :-)

Hm... a police station with doughnut shop next door... where have I seen that recently ;-)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Wow that Bag End project is gorgeous!

By in United States,

My favorites are the GMC pickup and Auto Union racer. Huw, I'm as confused as you are over the "TX Master Games" entry. It's a hot mess, and I'm not even sure what it's supposed to be.

Boeing, I am sure, is very displeased over the whole Osprey cancellation debacle, so it's not happening.

Wallace and Grommit is another favorite of mine. I'd prefer, however, we have an Aardman license as a whole, with minifigures as opposed to brick-built figures. But, this set is great.

There are a few that really perplex me. The MRI looks nothing like an MRI, and we have a local hospital with an open MRI, that while I've never been to that hospital, they have shown that MRI on various TV and newspaper ads. 17 looks like something a young child just getting into LEGO threw together. It's a very weak build.

The Coliseum and BrickTown police station; despite being brilliant builds (and I would definitely be more interested in an Architecture-scale Coliseum over the current monster) are definite "NO"s. We have two recently released sets that are very close in concept.

While I personally view Gravity Falls as very successful (even if I wasn't' that into it during its long run), I think it's not iconic enough, and it's been too long for a set to be viable.

Going by Steam, GOG, and Google Play, Among Us seems pretty popular; but I'm not personally familiar with it.

16 , the garbage truck is too City-like for an IDEAs set. That being said, MUCH better than the last garbage truck, which was a Juniors set.

I think the magnet would mean the MRI would not be feasible, and it's not that attractive of a build.

The rest of these builds are really good.

By in France,

TLG are pretty obviously using Ideas for marketing research. Good for them and even for us. Bad luck for the creators of Colloseum and Brick Town Police Station. One could argue that it‘s also bad form for Lego to create sets based on Ideas submissions even after they crossed the finish line...
Of the remaining almost all look marvelous. The selection for Ideas have surprised us in the past so Among Us and Wallace and Gromit could make it. Both would appeal to a new audience, I guess.
A very tough choice. I wouldn’t be able to pick a single one.

I don't know the Ghostbusters headquarters was eventually made into a set, when originally an Idea. And many people consider the fishing shop a modular. But I think that while they may not ever be chosen people should build what they want to see become a set. It may be a longshot, but its the only shot they have.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Not: Colosseum or Brick Town Police Station. What I want to pass: Gravity Falls, Avatar Air Bender, Classic Castle, Automated Garbage Truck, Among Us. What will likely pass: something space related.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Some interesting projects which received 10.000 votes. I personally would be happy if the classic castle and/or the Roman battleship would be chosen. I also like the car wash a lot, but as this is a modular I'm pretty sure this will not be chosen. Looking at how many Bricky_Brick projects are reaching the 10k threshold, perhaps LEGO should offer him a job.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Colosseum and modular police station would be great! :)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

If they produce the castle, Wallace & Grommit, the race car, the lighthouse, the viking village and the Roman warship, it is going to be an expensive year for me...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Huw I did a quick Google on TX Master Games, and it appears to be an educational board game based partly on Taekwon-do, the martial art.

It was developed a few years ago by a senior Taekwon-do practitioner based in Poland, so is popular among students there, but has extremely limited appeal outside of Eastern Europe or indeed among the large proportion of the worldwide Lego buying population who don’t follow martial arts too closely.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a project pushed entirely within the Polish Taekwon-do bubble in an attempt to gain traction in the larger market.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Please be Gravity falls or castle.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I’m going with Spirited Away (One of my all-time favourite movies), Red Dwarf (One of my all time favourite TV shows), Wallace and Gromit (a childhood classic) and the Viking Village (just looks nice).

While I also love Bag End, I doubt LEGO would release it as we’ve already had LOTR before, but never say never!

Gravatar
By in Mexico,

Viking Village and Roman Warship are a MUST!!

We've had enough licensed imho, BUT the Wallace and Gromit looks fine, and there's already an existing Bag End set. However, this only confirms how many of us are craving for more Lord of the Rings / Middle Earth sets, hoping to see the theme back just as they did with Harry Potter.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sign me up for one of the Auto Union race cars. Man, what a beautiful model. I would prefer a late 1960s F1 car but this one is magnificent and has lots of history too.

And of course, a new Bag End set would basicallybe a license to print money.

Nothing to argue here for me. It is pretty obvious that LEGO is lettig us the fans work for them on the ideas site and let them be inspired by our hard work and ideas to make money out of it. I mean who wouldn't - it is free work force, they don't have to pay us and get all the ideas in the world + the votes show how high the demand is. This is genius from a business standpoint and straightout asocial from a human standpoint. But LEGO is not the only one doing such a thing, all greedy business are. I for example have to do e-casting videos clips for TV shows and movie castings and often we have to invent or create characters that end up in the final product without us seeing a cent or getting credit for the idea.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Bag End, Pandora and Spirited Away!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

My personal favourites are the castle, lighthouse, garbage truck and GMC. The garbage truck would be a brilliant City set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Don't see Among Us going anywhere, give how well Overwatch sets came and went. Just a lot on this list that are older but popular licenses with dedicated following. But they are still kind of obscure to appeal to larger audiences, IMOH. (Spirited Away, Avatar, etc and a few that defy any logic MRI & TX) I see lots of love for Wallace & Gromit here though.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Wallace and Gromit!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The talent of the LEGO community, myself excluded, never ceases to amaze me. Can any LEGO kingdom ever have enough Classic Castles? Mine certainly has more room. I am sure we could also find space for the Viking Village and the Roman Warship. As a matter of fact, I would likely buy multiples of each. These are my personal favorites, as they happen to appeal to my collecting interests, and several of the others are equally fantastic. Good luck to all the submissions!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Viking Village would be an interesting one.

I want that, Classic Castle, Wallace and Gromit, and Little Venice. Personally the Car Wash would be of most use to me although Id love a classic castle to complement both my medieval scene and the new blacksmith shop.

If they did the car wash I wonder if they would include the old car or does Lego really hate vehicles with modulars...

Do people think Lego would do another Castle/Medieval related set for Ideas? (Ill include the viking proposal in that as well) I mean, they have done a TON of space sets but maybe blacksmith shop is too soon?

Little Venice would be interesting if they chose it, it would be nice to see further proof after Old Fishing Store that Ideas is willing to accept buildings especially if they arent specifically modulars.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I _hope_ for the Milwaukee art museum and the Avatar set, but realistically I _think_ the castle theme and possibly some Wallace & Gromit related set is the most plausible.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

I REALLY WANT The Addams Family Mansion.

I mean, seriously, it's the THIRD time that the project gets 10k votes. Maybe LEGO should take a hint.
And there most definitely isn't a licensing issue there, specially as they could tie the launch with the release of The Addams Family 2 cartoon film.

I'd also love to get Bag End, Jumanji and Classic Castle. Bag End, however, they might want to wait until the Amazon series premieres. Classic Castle they should release through BrickLink.
Jumanji would have to be based on the original film for us AFOLs...problem is, kids today know the new films better. So it'd be complicated to conciliate the two.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Gravity Falls! Although didn't a Mystery Shack get turned down in the past that had brick-built letters on the sign?

That Colosseum looks maybe 90% as good as Lego's one with probably 10% of the pieces. I'd have been tempted to purchase this version even though I'm not really into Architecture sets. The main draw for me to get Lego's version is simply to own the biggest set Lego has ever released.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Go Go Automated Garbage Truck!

The first Ideas set I actually voted on, so if it passes I'll buy it.

All the other sets look great too.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I can definitely see Lego approving the gloomy-looking Viking village, then turning it into a fun-loving tiny house using bright and happy-coloured bricks, in line with what they’ve done with the Treehouse and Medieval Blacksmith

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm just here for Gravity Falls and Spirited Away, to be honest.

Spirited Away would probably get downscaled into a much smaller set, akin to the recent Sesame Street one, but I can see a lot of potential in the concept. While Gravity Falls may need a little scaling down but could probably pass at a pretty much unaltered scale otherwise.

I'd be happy to see either one of them pass review. Nothing else here that interests me personally, though some of the non-licensed models in particular are certainly very high quality and I wouldn't be sad to see them pass! They're just not anything I'd spend money on personally.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A very strange mix of great projects, projects that Lego has basically already made, and a few that make me wonder how they achieved 10k votes...

Let’s just say one set makes me question how easy it is to spam the votes.

LEGO was “already” working on the GBHQ when the other one made 10k. The old fishing store isn’t a modular.

My opinion is that LEGO isn’t going to make any of these. I really wish they would make the Addams Family, but a different version already made 10k and LEGO passed on it...

Isn't hypocritically from Lego to release sets Coloseum and modular Police Station when you have in same time sets like that in Ideas?!

By in Belgium,

I think Colosseum, Brick Town Police Station & Bag End are too redundant with what we already got, although Bag End looks so beautiful and I would be 100 % OK with a wider, more complete & movies-accurate version of Bilbo's home!

IMHO, Jumanji, Wallace & Gromit & The Addams Family Mystery Mansion would be cool as actual (redesigned) buyable sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I suspect the TX mess is some epic-level trolling. There is a possibility that it's to do with a taekwondo game, but it's a complete mess whatever it is.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The garbage truck is 100% a shoe in. It’s such a cool model with an interesting feature that would fit into any city layout. I also feel like Among Us had a chance to get picked. It’s a huge streaming game and LEGO could make some money off of it

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Do we have any actual information to confirm or refute that Lego will have been developing the colosseum, police station etc long before these ideas were submitted or reached 10k? I’m tired of hearing people moan about them stealing off Ideas so I would love for some proof one way or the other!

(As for the sets, many are lovely but I suspect few will make it so reserving my hopes.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd be happy if the display stand for the Roman Ship passed on its own, I love the way they've made that scrollwork!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Oh I would love Vikings <3 or Caste or Spirted Away (and then much more from Ghibli) ;ppp

Gravatar
By in United States,

On the one hand, I'd be happy to buy a $200 Boeing 737 based on the Ideas submission.

On the other hand, I haven't yet bought last year's $100 passenger jet.

Maybe I wouldn't be so quick to spend that kind of money on an Ideas 737 after all?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Gravity Falls, Among Us, and Wallace & Gromit are my picks!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just my random 2 cents:

1. Boeing 737 Passenger Plane – simple plane but don’t see it being approved with the City planes already available.
2. Colosseum (Architecture Style) – not going to happen given LEGO just released theirs in November
3. Gravity Falls: The Mystery Shack – I slightly recognize the name of the show but know nothing of the source material. Seems cool but I doubt it gets approved.
4. Brick Town Police Station – not going to happen given LEGO just released theirs this month
5. Bag End – That’s a lot of SNOT, I like it, but in the end I don’t think it’s approved. I could see maybe LOTR coming back once the Amazon show is up and running.
6. Red Dwarf Starbug LEGO Idea – No idea what this is based on, doubt it gets approved.
7. Avatar: The Last Airbender - YIP YIP! – I do like this one a lot, though I feel licensing would be an issue. I’d be curious how well the former Avatar line did. I don’t think it gets approved.
8. Classic Castle – I really like this one, but at initial glance the piece count seems high. I could see a more scaled back version or this being a good contender for Bricklink’s designer program. Overall though I don’t think it gets approved.
9. Open MRI – I think it’s too niche to be commercially successful.
10. Motorized Lighthouse – I could see this being a good compliment to OFS, maybe sans the motor and instead with a light up brick. Overall I don’t see this getting approved though.
11. Avatar: The Illuminated World of Pandora – I really like the color variety but ultimately think it will not get approved. If and when another Avatar movie comes out, I could see LEGO doing something though.
12. Spirited Away - I don’t think this gets approved, it would compete with the CTF/Ninjago line in terms of general appearance.
13. Jumanji of 1995 – While I love the old movie, I don’t see this getting approved, especially given the reboot the series recently received.
14. The Little Venice – I think this is a pretty nice looking set, I don’t think it gets approval though.
15. Auto Union Type C Racecar – I could see this maybe getting approval, it would complement the Caterham that was previously approved.
16. Automated Garbage Truck – I would love for this one to get approved. The functionality is awesome. I’m not too familiar if the City line has a garbage truck, but I could see one like this going great in there.
17. TX Master Games – Maybe I’m missing something, but I’m not 100% what I’m looking at, at initial glance. Looks like a game board or something fighting related? I’m going to go with not getting approved.
18. Milwaukee Art Museum – It looks like but I think the building is too niche or not widely known for it to be successful.
19. The Car Wash – Does not get approved, I could see the modular line already having something in the works for a car wash (if they don’t already – I don’t follow modular too closely)
20. Wallace & Gromit – Overall it looks nice, this is a maybe. It's def. recognizable.
21. Among Us: The Skeld – Blue looks sus. Overall a no, I don’t think the longevity is there for the game and for Lego to make something based off this currently ‘in’ game.
22. Roman Warship – I would love for this one to get approved. I think there’s a chance, albeit with a fraction of the minifigs and the tigers being replaced with wolves (Romulus and Remus)
23. The Addams Family Mystery Mansion – I think it’s too similar to the Haunted House that came out, but I do like the idea.
24. GMC - Blue Chip 100 [1957] – I don’t see this getting approved. I’m curious what creator expert cars LEGO has lined up.
25. Viking Village – Another set I’d like to see approved. Vikings had a small resurgence thanks to shows like Vikings and the Last Kingdom. I could see this getting the PoBB and Medieval Blacksmith treatment (brighter colors/'redesign')

overall, there are some sets i'd like to see and would buy, but honestly don't have a huge conviction in any of them.

Literally every single review period has had a modular styled building and they never go through haha.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think the station and the Colosseum have a pretty good shot.

In seriousness none of them really stand out as especially likely too me, but I'd be delighted with the Last
Airbender or Gravity Falls being made into official Lego sets. Wallace and Gromit or Spirited Away would also be cool. Also, for some reason that garbage truck is calling to me. Not sure if it has a chance but I might just buy it if it gets made.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh man, Classic Castle and Viking Village look nice! I'd love more historical sets.
Avatar TLA and Spirited Away would be welcome additions, and as much as I'd like the Mystery Shack, I doubt it'll pass since the first one didn't make the cut.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just put on a blindfold, tipped a box of random bricks onto the floor and blindly attached them to a baseplate. Took the blindfold off and stuck two minifigs on top. It looks way better than the TX Master Games, so I’ve submitted it to the Lego Ideas website and expect to get 10,000 by midnight. Bosh!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

My favorites:

-castle / viking village : after the succes of the pirate “line” , this is a great follow up.
-venice : only thing missing is the rialto bridge
-roman ship : Great display piece.
-car wash : Goes nicely with the diner.

No huwbot? Smfh...sad....

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's funny. I had thought that Police Station was the one we were getting this year until official images came out... I think I still prefer this one mostly.
I think the Haunted House set knocks the Adams Family set out, at least for a year or two. It's a good solid house set, though I prefer the previous offering.
I think the rest of the licences are easy passes for me.
The light house, though beautiful, doesn't appeal to me since not to minifigure scale, though I've wanted a good one for a while... I won't go into the other non-minifig scale stuff as I have no interest in micro or technic...
That Viking set screams How to Train Dragons to me for some reason... It is nice though. I got out of the historic sets years ago, so a pass for me, but I see the appeal.
Castle is nice and if I collected that, it would probably be my closest to a buy...
I like the concept of the Car Wash and it is attractive, but I don't want another 1950s themed modular... I want something either WWII era or more modern.
I think I could pass on all especially in this year of a lot of great sets. What I really want is a high quality Hall of Justice expert set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would buy the lighthouse, so I'm rooting for that one.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I'm just gonna say, I adore the Viking Village. That'd be a day-one purchase for me.

The castle is pretty nice as well.

Shame about the modular police station. It's a nice build, but yeah, that's not going to happen.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've been contemplating a Zoo for years and think it should be a whole line with each habitat or two being a set with connecting walkways. (Maybe the $100+ set could be entry way with central map connector...) I have a feeling though that the current anti-zoo sentiments have been keeping Lego away...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love the Wallace and Gromit set, has so much character, the Auto Union is brilliantly detailed and I like the look of the Milwaukee Art Museum, having finally got into the Architecture range.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Spirited Away on EVERYTHING!

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

I wish castle get approved. It will be nice combo grab with blacksmith ideas set :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope the Milwaukee Art Museum, Roman Warship, the Addams Family,Bag end and the Car Wash passes

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lego loves a lighthouse!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My thoughts.:
1. Plane - doubtful, not engaging enough
2. Colosseum - I like it but I think it's very unlikely
3. Gravity falls - don't know anything about the license, not interested
4. Police station - big nope
5. Bag End - nice model, not sure about its chances
6. Red Dwarf bug thing - too niche (I'm vaguely familiar with the TV show but I've never seen this creature before)
7. Avatar - not for me, but I don't know the IP at all so it might do ok
8. Castle - many an AFOL's dream but tricky to do an official set in a way that would be commercial and please the Castle fans who voted for this massive chunk
9. MRI - not visually appealing so very unlikely
10. Lighthouse - maybe a bit bland for its size? The motorized idea is nice but this seems to be more suited to being a MOC than a set
11. Avatar - looks pretty, no idea about its chances
12. Spirited Away - ditto
13. Jumanji - not interested
14. Little Venice - I really like this but I can't see it succeeding unfortunately
15. Race car - it's very grey, I don't know enough about cars to know if this could succeed
16. Garbage truck - perhaps too small to make it as a full Ideas set? Could be a GWP in future maybe?
17. Tx master games - nope
18. Milwaukee Art Museum - I love this but I don't think they'll do an Architecture style set. (I wish they'd have some more interesting buildings like this one in the Architecture series)
19. Car wash - nope, they won't do a modular (seems to me that Ideas is more of a MOC showcase mechanism than anything else for these proto-modulars)
20. Wallace and Gromit - really hope this gets made
21. Among Us - too much of a passing fad I reckon
22. Roman warship - interesting, has a decent chance IMO
23. Addams family - don't know, but it doesn't interest me
24. GMC Blue Chip - not iconic vehicles to me, I suspect too similar to what was Creator Expert
25. Viking village - another AFOL's dream set. Same comments as per the castle.

The police station designer must be pretty excited about this round.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I'm pretty sure it will be the police station or the colosseum! ;)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Fun to see Starbug here (Red Dwarf is a British sitcom that began in 1988, and still going. This is the crew's ship in which most of their adventures happen), but without some figures and some features to interact with, i doubt it'd get made.

I like Little Venice, and i love The Addams Family set, but I guess the lighthouse is the most likely one to get made as it'd also be licence free.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm surprised the Among Us model hasn't been disqualified. The limited exposure I have to the game comes from my kids talking about the various methods of killing their competition. If the Osprey is off limits, how could they justify Among Us?

I'm hoping for the garbage truck!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Basically four I would probably consider buying if they make it through which I doubt. A few others are interesting to me but it would depend on the final set.

1. Boeing 737 Passenger Plane – boring
2. Colosseum (Architecture Style) – already done
3. Gravity Falls: The Mystery Shack – I've heard of this but never seen it. Cute build but I don't think I'd buy it
4. Brick Town Police Station – already done but I like the Corner style of this one.
5. Bag End – already done
6. Red Dwarf Starbug LEGO Idea – looks like a giant ugly bug, so no.
7. Avatar: The Last Airbender - this just looks like an ugly cartoon to me
8. Classic Castle – Nicely done Castle. I would definitely buy this one
9. Open MRI – I've never seen an MRI with Eyes. Cute but I wouldn't buy it.
10. Motorized Lighthouse – Interesting build & depending on the final version might be something I would buy
11. Avatar: The Illuminated World of Pandora – Beautifully done but I don't know that I would buy it.
12. Spirited Away - Nice if you are into this IP.
13. Jumanji of 1995 – Interesting if you are a fan.
14. The Little Venice – Beautiful set. Something I might buy depending on final product.
15. Auto Union Type C Racecar – Not into Cars so no interest to me.
16. Automated Garbage Truck – Cute but more likely for a City set.
17. TX Master Games – What the heck. Just NO! I could build something better out of any basic classic set.
18. Milwaukee Art Museum – Beautiful piece of Architecture & more fitting for that line.
19. The Car Wash – Cute. Reminds me of some of the Stand Alone Hard Rock buildings in some cities. Don't know that I would buy it.
20. Wallace & Gromit – Nice set that I might or might not buy.
21. Among Us: The Skeld – Another what the heck from me. Apparently some people are really into this but I never heard of it before today. Another big no for me.
22. Roman Warship – Nicely done & very interesting build so another maybe for me.
23. The Addams Family Mystery Mansion – I really like this one & would probably buy it.
24. GMC - Blue Chip 100 [1957] – Again not into cars so not something I would buy but I can see car enthusiasts being interested.
25. Viking Village – Absolutely stunning build. Reminds me of Rohan. I would definitely buy this.

Glad someone cleared up the whole TX games thing. And there was me thinking it was yet another video game thing voted on by the very large number of teenagers who frequent Ideas these days.

I guess the lighthouse made it because it’s motorised. It’s not exactly nice looking though. My lighthouse submission is far nicer but it’s let down by my poor photography.

I do wish TLG would stop the modular submissions. They will never get passed and just take up valuable space on the site. Well actually they probably get their ’ideas’ that way... police station anyone....

There’s a huge amount of great submissions on Ideas, but many just linger at the bottom of the list, whilst most people tend to view the stuff near the top and just vote like sheep. Sorry. I have a cat cafe on there, which I think would make a great set, but clearly no one wants one. And to think that cats are the most popular pet on earth. Maybe all the teens are too busy playing video games to notice a cat. Sorry, don’t mean to be negative about ideas, but it’s just what I’m seeing. Anyone care to correct me??

If Overwatch got a full theme dedicated to it, and the Star Wars and India Jones have plenty of murder and blood in them, I don't see any reason for TLG to disqualify Among Us based on its content. I doubt it will make it through though, since it has been popular only popular for a few months.

Bag End is the only one I might buy. I do think Wallace and Gromit look amazing. It would be hilarious if Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar The Illuminated World of Pandora both got produced and were available at the same time: imagine the confusion in people unfamiliar with either one!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

With the last few reviews, I've felt that the proportion of submissions which reached 10K, which would actually make viable and good official sets, is quite small, and shrinking. Maybe Lego is okay with Ideas operating that way, but it makes the review stages seem bloated - there shouldn't be so many in review which people say "well that's never getting picked".

The only remedy I can think of would be to no longer give everyone unlimited votes - e.g. give everyone one vote per day, or three per week. It might reduce "impulsive" support votes and make people pause to consider which ideas are ones they would really pay money for, if released.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it, but there was already a Last Airbender Appa set in the previous review phase! So I guess the odds for this one are zero - either they'll pick the first one, or neither of them.

Love to see Bag end make a return. It's a very clever use of bricks with the hobbit hole literally coming alive as you read the book. The Viking Village has so much potential and the Roman warship and classic castle are stunning display pieces. The GMC classic cars sky rocketed up to 10K but sadly for all of these sets, Wallace and Grommit is the winner - a remarkably accurate and popular build. Hopefully the ones I voted for here will make it over to order on Bricklink!

By in United States,

Unfortunately, the timing rules out Colosseum and the Police Station, although I think at least the latter would not have passed anyway.

Personally, I would take out a loan for the 737 and Bag End if that is what it took to get them. I do have the Unexpected Gathering set, and will never part with it. This new design for Bag End is incredible, especially with it set on the book. If they OK it, and it resembles the one in the photo, the Lego site will crash on the day it is released and there will be lines at the Lego Stores that morning. You can bet on it.

The castle looks wonderful, but perhaps it is too big.

I have a feeling Wallace and Gromit will be a frontrunner. Avatar is very popular in the Disney parks, which could help give it some serious consideration.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My predictions for each (as I did last time as well) with my estimate at their odds in percentages:
1) 737 plane = 2% chance. Lego does planes on its own. Doesn't need Ideas.
2) Colosseum = 0% chance for obvious reasons.
3) Mystery Shack = 40% chance. They have a relationship with Disney, but the show is off the air.
4) Modular Police Station & Doughnut shop = 0% for obvious reasons...but a shame because I like this better (other than it being yet another corner building).
5) Bag End = 0% because I think they did this years ago, but without the book...which was a different set.
6) Red Dwarf = 5% because it's not well known these days outside the UK and niche fans and it would need a whole new license for what would have very limited appeal.
7) Avatar/Airbender = 15%. It'd be nice to see some good sets from this amazing show, but they've already done this license and I don't think they'd be going back to it so long after the show ended.
8) Castle = 45%. If they do this, it will be shrunk down...but that's a lot of pieces for a castle and they haven't seemed to be that fond of castles lately.
9) Open MRI = 5%. I don't even feel like I need to say anything here. How this got 10,000 votes is a mystery to me. I mean, talk about LIMITED appeal... (Apologies to Apollo Exconde.)
10) Lighthouse = 60%. Lego tends to do some lighthouses on its own, but never this grand. I guarantee if they make this that the base will be severely reduced in size and they'd likely change it to minifig scale.
11) Avatar/Pandora = 70%. I'm not a big Avatar (James Cameron version) fan...mostly because the last movie came out forever ago and the new ones are taking too long and I have a feeling they're overhyped. ...but this set has amazing colors. This seems like it might be interesting to display.
12) Spirited Away = 40%. That building is just too dang huge and the Spirited Away title (despite its awards) isn't well known enough.
13) Jumanji = 45%. A film from 26 years ago that spawned two recent sequels. That's not helping its odds...and this broken house is neat, but when I think of Jumanji I don't think of the house.
14) Little Venice = 60%. This is a beautiful set. If it's picked, I hope they remain faithful to this model and don't go all Blacksmith's Shop on it.
15) Racecar = 30%. They haven't been keen on this type of model in the past and we've only had one Ideas race car. The gray color certainly doesn't seem to be typical of Lego Ideas or Lego in general.
16) Garbage Truck = 75%. I'm impressed that there's an Ideas set that's not excessively large or complicated that actually made the 10k goal! These are rare unicorns! The only things that keep me from giving this 100% are the fact it's a garbage truck (which is usually only exciting to little kids) and that it's maybe TOO simple for Lego Ideas...but this seems like one of the most likely candidates so far.
17) TK Master Games = 1%. Huh? I'm sorry... HUH?! I must be missing something. I know I was confused how Open MRI got 10k, but I'm even more puzzled by this. I had to open up the Ideas page to know this was Taekwon-do. Even then, looking at the description, I'm not sure I understand what's supposed to be represented here. Absolutely minimal chance this ever gets considered.
18) Milwaukee Art Museum = 10%. Everyone knows Milwaukee is the art capital of the world, right? ;) The building is cool looking, but is not instantly recognizable. It would need to be in order to be considered. This is no Empire State Building, Tower Bridge, or Red Square.
19) The Car Wash = 35%. This seems to borrow too many ideas from the recently discontinued Downtown Diner...but it's a car wash with a giant guitar that looks to be leaning against stacked Flintstone houses.
20) Wallace & Gromit = 75%. This may not be hugely popular in the US, but it's not an unknown...and this set seems to be of a reasonable size. The only big question is licensing. Didn't we see another Wallace & Gromit come up once before?
21) Among Us = 45%. The popularity of this 3 year-old game really took off during this pandemic a

Here's to hoping the Addams Family succeeds this time. Especially since this is now the 2nd Time it's appeared.
Other notes. the Castle and Viking is would definitely be the most useful of all of these. Castle & Pirates have been the highest requested returns for years. The Nexo Knights was NOT it as it had too much of LEGO Movie/Chima Feel to it instead of normal styling.

The Police Station won't succeed being the Police Modular pretty much replicates it completely minus the car garage.

The Car Wash definitely looks nice. But My Top 3 have been chosen as written above.

I am annoyed at all these people whinging about modular buildings. Ideas used to be swamped by stupid Star Wars and no one complained about that.

Personally I am far more annoyed by all the licensed themes. Wallace and Gromit is great but every review there's some random American sitcom which only got voted because of the shows popularity or some other random adult American tv show.

At least modulars are a unique Lego idea that doesnt rely on third party support and at the very least may give Lego ideas for new modulars and show the continued support for the modular line by the Lego fan community.

After all, many people doubted the Old Fishing Store would get through and it did. Perhaps a specifically modular building may not be picked, but certainly proposals such as Little Venice and that Victorian era Bakery should be considered. Just because Lego hasnt chosen a modular yet doesnt mean such proposals should be completely disregarded.

Look how many space and Space X proposals we get every year. How many The Office sets got 10000 votes with each be knocked back.

Personally I find a lot of licensed stuff only gets 10000 because its licensed, steamboat willie barely had enough in it to quality as more then just a minfig set while the original Central Perk was hardly anything special.

As for historical themes be it castle/vikings, pirates (maybe western) personally I think Lego should just release a Blacksmith shop/POBB like set each year the same as they do for the modulars, fairground, WV, and Ninjago City buildings which would satisfy AFOLs (since the before mentioned sets are all targeted at AFOLs) and would likely pick up at least some interest from kids, especially if the sets werent made too big and expensive, like Blacksmith shop which looks like it could be under $100. That way there would likely be less proposals for such themes/sets on Lego Ideas.

(dont get me wrong Im all for Ideas sets like that but it would be better to just have a theme for it). Im not proposing a rehase of Legends, but new completely new sets which may or may not have references to past sets or specific subthemes (eg Forestmen, Islanders etc.) Im not saying Lego should rerelease a new version of Yellow Castle, give us a new, detailed medieval castle, or a viking village or forestmen's lair.

Too bad the Colosseum and the Police Station don’t stand a chance. My favorite is Bag End, although there’s a change lego may already be working on reviving the LotR theme, in which case that probably wouldn’t make it either. I also hope the garbage truck and the Milwaukee Art Museum make it.

22) Roman Warship = 40%. If they do it, there's 0% chance it has the title "WARship".

I did a little poking around. The MRI set was featured in a number of newspapers because the creator sees it as something to ease any nerves kids have about getting into an MRI scanner. The 10k votes likely came as a result of the news coverage in so many different publications.

"TLG are pretty obviously using Ideas for marketing research. Good for them and even for us. Bad luck for the creators of Colloseum and Brick Town Police Station. One could argue that it‘s also bad form for Lego to create sets based on Ideas submissions even after they crossed the finish line..."

Ah, the evergreen issue of Lego "copying" designs even though the resultant sets have nothing in common but the name.

Firstly, "market research" seems a bit goofy since the Colosseum project took about a year and a half to gain the necessary support and the Police station project took almost two full years. SURELY it would make more sense for Lego to copy popular projects? Slow-burners don't really show the kind of enthusiasm you'd want if you're going to copy.

Second, there are virtually zero similarities between the "copied" designs and the finished sets. The idea that Lego took a dinky Architecture-scale model and made that into the largest set ever released is, uh, a bit out there. There's nothing about the base, walls, center, or really any part of the project that appears in the final design. So what did Lego copy? The name of a landmark? The concept of building something based off of real-life architecture? I'm super lost as to what got stolen here. Same goes for the police station. Is there a single unique aspect of the project that got put into the finished set? A single one? A donut shop, because that's the first time that anyone has connected cops to donuts? Again, there's not a single bit of the project that appears in the final set. So what did Lego take? The name "police station" even though they've been making City police station since before most of us were born? Did that Ideas user create the concept of a police station?

To say nothing of the disrespect that these accusations bring to the sets' actual designers, it's just absolutely ludicrous that this argument always comes up even when there is zero evidence. If the sets looked similar to the projects, then there would be some validity. If there were clearly building techniques that the project designer created and were never seen in a set before, that then just happened to appear in the aped final design, then there would be some validity. But there never is. You can go down the list of every single set people think Lego stole and there's never anything in common outside of the name.

No, I'm not some bright-eyed fanboy who thinks Lego can do no wrong. There are a few issues where I'm one of their most vocal critics. But accusing them of stealing fan designs, when there is no part of the fan design in the official set, is foolish at best. I'm so tired of treading these same arguments over and over when there is absolutely nothing to back them up except "Hey, uh, someone made an Ideas project with this set title two years ago, so, obviously Lego copied them"

GMC is a General Motors company, and there have been 4 Chevy models (42093 [Still on the market], 75870, 75874, and 75891 [Also apparently still for purchase, shows TooS on Lego SaH US site, back-ordered for the Uk site])

Gravatar
By in United States,

Right off the bat you can rule out 2 (conflicts with Architecture and the new Creator Expert set), 4 (conflicts with Modulars), and 18 (conflicts with Architecture). The 737 has potential. They've never done a minifig-compatible, highly detailed, modern commercial aircraft before (I think the closest they've come is 7628 from Indiana Jones). I could see Venice selling very well, and I can't see any conflicts it would have. It's not even licensed, which gives it an edge. The Garbage Truck would fit nicely in a City layout, isn't licensed, and has a unique play feature that they've never worked into an official set. If it doesn't get approved, expect to see the City designers run with this concept at some point. The two I'd be most interested in buying, though, are W&G and the Viking village, though I don't think either is a shoe-in.

Please do not take anything out of the following as critical or argumentative; rather, it is meant as a rhetorical question that was spurred by your reasonable observation. I appreciate your thoughtful and comprehensive analysis, but I cannot be sure or anything related to TLG's confusing approach to not promoting WARfare themes. Of course they have Star Wars, Infinity Wars, and Civil War, but they explain these away as being fantasy themes. Just type "battle" in the search box on Brickset under "sets" and you will come up with 50+ responses. Some are for specific sets and others are for themes containing many more sets, but TLG retorts many are historical rather than fantasy. What about Pirates or Western, two themes that touch on the real subjugation of indigenous peoples by force? Even if someone can explain all that, how can one explain a model of the Red Baron and two different models of the Sopwith Camel? The answer is that only TLG knows what they will and what they won't tolerate in the realm of their commitment not to glorify war. I wish I could understand it, but I don't. At the same time, I suppose it is better to have a well-intentioned policy that is questionably administered than no policy at all.

All that written, I hope the Roman Warship passes. Thanks for your great comments.

By in Italy,

Going for the most original, I'd say the Roman warship is my pick, followed closely by the Viking village.

Also, the Lighthouse is another nice pick and the Addams Family (modular?) house is worthy of mention.

But I find myself agreeing with quite a few other members here in not actually spotting a real IDEAS set I'd like to see on shelves, this time around. There's nothing like the Piano, Wall-e, or House on a Tree that actually entices me. Granted they are almost all marvellous creations, I don't see anything that hasn't been designed already.

Perhaps Pandora might be the exception. But I doubt it will make it. And let me just say, the Car Wash would make a great 2022 modular.

I know Lego has used "War" in titles before (like Star Wars and Infinity War in your examples), but those were licensed properties where they either had to use the word or not do the license. In this case, it's a set name. All I'm saying is that they won't call it "Warship". Obviously Lego no longer has a big issue with war-type sets...but I don't think they'll ever put "War" in the name of a set when it can be avoided. ...and they rename Ideas sets EVERY time.

By in United States,

Top picks in my opinion are in order;
1 - Wallace and Gromit, 2 - GMC trucks and 3 - Little Venice. I would definitely buy all 3 of these sets. The Boeing jets are nice but Lego produces their own passage plane. The trash truck is nothing more than a rehash of previous sets, besides, the Toy Story trash truck is way better. Viking ship is a very nice display set. The Car wash looks like a set on Ali.

Gravatar
By in United States,

To the users who mentioned it specifically but also to everyone in general;

In my quasi-informed opinion, based on the examples we have of the LEGO development timeline it comes down to coincidence when an IDEAS submission closely resembles a product that LEGO has recently released. This year we can see glaring similarities in the Police Station Modular and the Architecture Coliseum.

Let's begin with the Police Station. The 100 supporters announcement was posted on March 8th 2019 and that milestone must be reached within 60 days of initial submission, so the earliest possible date would be January 9th, 2019. The Official Announcement of 10278 came on November 27th, 2020. It is impossible to claim that LEGO "stole" the idea from the IDEAS submission if we can agree that the subjects are chosen and initial design phases for Modular Buildings are in motion about 2 years prior to general release. This seems quite reasonable to me and it works the other way too; the next few Modulars have probably been selected by TLG designers and the 2021 Modular is most likely quite far along in development. The only detail that I am not convinced about is the inclusion of the Donut shop. A Police Station on it's own showing up in the Modulars line has been bound to happen ever since the Fire Station came along, and there are enough Modulars on IDEAS to fill multiple cities, so it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. The specific choice of a Donut shop can be attributed to the cop/donut trope, so still within the realm of possibility that both LEGO and the IDEAS designer came up with the station/donut shop combo independently. In this case perhaps the LEGO team saw the IDEAS project, took note of its popularity and included the donuts as a tribute. I just don't know and maybe we never will.

The Coliseum can be addressed by the same timeline argument. 100 Supporters Milestone was reached on April 24th, 2019. With 10276 literally being the largest official LEGO set ever, I would again be surprised if it was not well into the initial design stages when the smaller one first showed up on IDEAS.

[By the time I've written this much, @fakespacesquid has posted an excellent rebuttal that covers the same points. Glad to see I'm not alone and to read their fresh approach to the claims we both disagree with.]

@gsom7:
Nope. This class hit 10k all within the last four months. There's no way they managed to crank those two sets out in that short a span of time.

@crankybricks:
Before they were submitted? Probably not (in fact, they probably weren't). Before they hit 10k? Watch the designer videos and see if they mention when they got started. I think at least one of them was in development for a full year, which beats four months three times over. That's the best you're going to get, because there's no way they would ever publish a list of future releases that far in advance.

@mroper295:
They might not have researched it yet.

@monty_bricks:
If you look back at all the comments on previous reviews, nearly every project would get rejected, and nearly every project would be accepted, depending on exactly which comments you believed. And if you look back at all the previous announcements, the percentage of projects that clear review has remained fairly consistent over the life of the theme. At a 10% success rate, the upcoming announcement on the last 36 projects is likely to yield 3-4 new sets, and this batch should be 2-3.

@Brickchap:
I mean, I wasn't upset that any got voted up, but I do remember not being the only person who would regularly point out that no SW set would clear review while they were actively producing sets. It does get a little tiresome to see people saying that as long as it's not a repeat of one they've already done, a Modular Ideas set has any sort of chance. If people want to use the Ideas program to show off their MOCs, that's fine with me, but I don't get why people think certain projects have any sort of chance. It would probably help if they actually came right out and stated why they rejected every project that doesn't pass.

Licensed IP does have a huge advantage in the support phase, which is why they put a restriction on how many IP vs non-IP sets can clear review. Once they do pass the 10k threshold, original stuff has an edge, especially if the pickings are kinda slim. In order to pass an IP set, they may have to find a non-IP set to match it.

@Schmopiesdad:
They've stated quite clearly that fantasy violence is acceptable, but realistic violence is not. So, historical settings or sci-fi are one thing, but WWII is right out. I don't give the Roman Warship great odds of passing, but it has nothing to do with the "war" angle. Rather it has to do with the fact that making a boat hull that looks great, isn't pre-fab, and is stable is nearly impossible. Either it'll look clunky, or it won't get Design Department approval.

Anyone care to correct me??"

Wow, your MOCs are amazing!

"7) Avatar/Airbender = 15%. It'd be nice to see some good sets from this amazing show, but they've already done this license and I don't think they'd be going back to it so long after the show ended."

Avatar the Last Airbender was added to Netflix last June and spent most of the summer in Netflix's top 5 . . . so I think there is a renewed interest in the show and an entirely new audience that might be excited to see the set. As for me, I'm an old fan, who has watched the entire series several times over . . . with each of my kids . . . one of the best cartoons ever (IMO), so yes, I'd love for this one to become a set! The original series (all two sets) were uninspired and lacked any real draw. I'd love to see something new!

By in United States,

I've been asking for a Mystery Shack set for ages. In a dream world I'd love to get it, the Adventure Time Tree Fort, and the Steven Universe Crystal Temple all made into sets.

I missed out on the first Bag End set. Normally I'm not a fan of LEGO release products for licensed themes they've already covered, but it's been over half a decade since that first Bag End set and nearly that much since the last Hobbit set, plus the Hobbit is my favorite book, so I'm all for it.

I completely missed out on the first run of Avatar sets, and Appa was the most sinful exclusion from that line. There's not a lot of stuff I'd call day one purchases, but that one would be amazing!

Classic Castle has major Barracuda Bay vibes. Depending on how they update that Majisto style figure I might pick it up. The concept model is very much one of those "too detailed" style things, but if it does get through I'd find a way to mash it, Barracuda Bay, and Benny's Spaceship together into some massive classic LEGO display.

I'm not interested in the Motorized Lighthouse becoming a full fledged Ideas set, but I'd love to see it as one of those BrickLink promotions The LEGO Group has been talking about doing. It doesn't seem to come with many interesting parts or figures to warrant full retail, but it's a cool enough function it should get into public hands somehow.

When I saw the submission my first thought was "does anyone still care about James Cameron's Avatar." It feels like that film's dropped way off in popularity over the years.

Little Venice and the Car Wash are gorgeous but I probably wouldn't get them.

We need more small, entry level Ideas sets so I'm all for the Garbage Truck!

Out of all these projects the one I want the most is Among Us. I've always been a sucker for social deduction games, but I've never seen one with get so popular and stay popular for so long like Among Us. It's also freakin' adorable.

The Roman Warship and the Viking Village are both gorgeous. I'd love for them to launch at the same time as a sort of sister-series if you will. Again, Barracuda Bay companions!

Wasn't the interior of the original Adams Family house pink? (well black and white on film, pink on set.) Maybe they changed it to red and orange in a future run of the show but I'd rather they keep the colors true to real life or go black n' white with it.

I really like the garbage truck, and I think it would make a great set. I think it really has the play functions going for it. It is also nice seeing that it would be a much smaller and affordable set than most of the Ideas line. As others have said, it does fit in well with City, and I guess that could be a concern... that they would rather have it in City than Ideas.

Overall though, this set of projects is underwhelming to me, and I'm not super interested in many of them and/or don't think many of them are likely to be approved. I'm okay with that though, because at least I'll save money! (And of course, after LEGO alters the projects, I may change my mind and love them).

"The trash truck is nothing more than a rehash of previous sets, besides, the Toy Story trash truck is way better."

Did I miss the sarcasm tag somewhere? Yes, Lego has done at least three front-loading and two rear-loading trash trucks in the not too distant past. For better or worse, a garbage truck tends to cycle in the product line almost as often as a fire truck or police car. But to the best of my memory, they've never done a side-loader before, let alone one that has functionality that rivals some technic sets.

The Automated Garbage Truck and the Milwaukee Art Museum get my full support, partially due to local ties. Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, I don't see either making the final cut: the AGT due to size and the MAM due to the existing Architecture line. HOWEVER, I don't see why Lego couldn't opt to use the idea submissions as "marketing tools" and fold the designs into the existing City and Architecture lines, respectively. The AGT has a ton of play value, in addition to licensing options (similar to what TLG did with Vestas), and some realism draw for adults who still like garbage trucks.

As for the MAM, why not something from a smaller market? It was designed by a world-renowned architect. At some point, they'll run out of more "globally recognized" buildings to model, if they haven't already.

I'd also like to see the lighthouse, but I see TLG axing the motorized light, and frankly, it then becomes an expensive version of what they've already done and I already have in minifig scale. The regular lighting brick makes a nice effect, but for a set with near zero play value, I want to admire it from more than an arm's length away.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think four of them have potential, although there's lot of question marks even for those ones.

I would absolutely love the GMC to go with my other vehicle builds. Classic feel, and very different from what we've had so far. I wonder if it fits under existing licenses with General Motors? I'd say it's less niche than the Caterham. I hope they go for it.

The Last Airbender set looks great! That Appa build is amazing and the Display stand has a neat mechanism (though I doubt it would make it to the final product). One issue I see (aside from the lack of cabbages) is that this kind of feels like a minifigure set, unless you consider Appa a large vehicle build, and it's going to be pricey. I'm worried TLG would struggle to determine which demographic to go after with this set and the final design would suffer as a result. If they can think outside the box with their marketing department this thing would sell like crazy. The resurgence with the show being on Netflix helps.

I'm torn on Wallace & Gromit. I'm not sure if it has the global appeal to really push forward, but I thought the same thing about Friends and Big Bang Theory. The build is well done, capturing the iconic style and expressiveness of the characters. However, it kind of feels like one of those collectible figure sets you find at Hot Topic or GameStop where it doesn't really have great play value and the accessories don't really display well, so you're not really sure what to do with it.

Among Us looks like fun. The character designs are clever and it seems to capture the feel of the game. I'm just not sure I'd bank on the game still being popular enough by the time the set could make it through the development and production pipeline.

By in United States,

I'd love to have the Roman Warship, or the Little Venice (as long as TLG kept at least some of the lovely architectural details), or the Auto Union racecar, or the Milwaukee Art Museum (which is gorgeous). The Automated Garbage Truck would be fun, and I'd cheerfully buy Wallace and Gromit. And I'd love to have that modular Car Wash--but I suspect it will be a long time before another Art Deco style building appears in that series, and it's clear there aren't going to be any modulars in the Ideas sets (or any more modulars, if you believe the Old Fishing Store qualifies).

I'm not holding my breath for any of these to get approved, though. Even my personal favorites just don't seem to me to have enough "sit-up-and-take-notice" spark to pass review.

By in United States,

The Number 1 for me is the Classic Castle IF it gets the same treatment as Pirates of Barracuda Bay and is redone using the classic '80s Castle Lion Knights theme instead of this uninteresting modern scheme.

The Little Venice set, the Lighthouse, and the Automated Garbage Truck would be big hits for the family.

Star Bug all the way! Then maybe more Red Dwarf, sets, like a Polymorph, or a UCS of the Red Dwarf herself!!!!

By in Australia,

The ones I would be interested in are:
The Pandora set (on the one hand, the movie features a bunch of soldiers with high tech equipment going to another planet to wipe out the indigenous population, clear-cut the forest and then strip mine the place but on the other hand, Disney considers the movie OK to put in its parks and if Disney thinks its OK, its probably OK for LEGO as well. Licensing seems like it might be possible since Disney owns all the right now AFAIK)

Spirited Away (the biggest problem here is the difficulty of shrinking the build down and keeping all the detail you need plus LEGO already does "Asian" with NinjaGo, Monkie Kid and Chinese New Year stuff so they might be reluctant to do something like this. Licensing might be an issue, depends who owns it and whether different entities hold the rights in different countries)

Wallace & Gromit (licensing is unknown on this also not sure if they could come up with a design that is small enough to be a set, stays true to the original idea and satisfies the IP holder)

All the rest I have no interest in and most of them I can't see being made. If the airplane was something iconic like a 747 I might be interested but a 737 is just boring (and the fact that the airplane has been in the news over the past year or so for all the wrong reasons doesn't exactly help)

Its clear some of these have no chance. LEGO just did a Colosseum and modular police station so those are right out. The Open MRI seems to have no market really, who would buy one exactly? The Jumanji set will never happen (if nothing else its unlikely the IP holder will want a product appearing based on the old movie when the new stuff is where they want the focus to be) The race car would only have appeal fans of old old race cars who also like LEGO (which is probably not a very big group). The garbage truck seems too close to all the different City garbage trucks they have made. TX Master Games seems stupid (far less appeal than other "game" ideas that have been submitted and those all got rejected). Art Museum does have interesting architecture but I don't think the building is famous enough (either as a monument/tourist attraction/whatever or as a piece of architecture) to work. Video game related LEGO products will likely only happen for games with long term appeal (like Minecraft or Mario) and not something like Among Us that may not be so popular when the next fad game shows up. The pickup truck doesn't seem like its particularly well known (even many car guys would probably not know what it is).

@GSR_MataNui:
It's rare that you hear about the true colors of sets, costumes, and props for B&W shows and movies. It's even rarer that you hear why they picked those colors. The sad truth is that B&W TV and movie sets tended to look positively vomit-inducing, like they were designed by someone who either didn't care about color theory, or was completely color-blind. The reason behind this, however, is exactly what you see on the TV screen. Every color photographs differently in B&W. They didn't often repaint stuff to get the desired shades of grey, but they would pick some truly bizarre colors based entirely on the way they would read in B&W footage.

The "TX Masters" thing is I think a much needed wake-up call that 10,000 people actually isnt a lot. Anyone else ever think about how any youtube channel with 100k subscribers could get an ideas submission to that point overnight? An enormous number of people these days have that kind of reach at their fingertips, honestly its a wonder the Ideas platform has gotten this far without something like that happening before.

And for all the (well-deserved) criticism being levelled at TX masters, I think the MRI deserves the same (though at least we all have heard of an MRI...), its real bad. I dont recall ever having seen such low-quality builds reach 10k before, and to see two of them in one review... I think it says that something needs to change.

Ok, but this is the problem with the social media, not the 10K level. Reaching votes on Ideas become a test of the social media skills. Increasing the number of votes demanded is not a solution for this, it would even sharpen the problem.

If I remember rightly, wasn't the previous one disqualified from the running for undisclosed reasons before it got a chance to go through review? I don't think we ever found out why... two models were disqualified at the same time, with only one explanation given (the designer being a Lego employee) that didn't specify which project it applied to.

Given that this is the second time such a model has reached the 10,000, and that the show seems hugely popular around the internet - there was enough fan demand to get a DVD box set made of the full series, which Disney virtually NEVER does for their shows - I think it has a fair chance of passing as long as nothing unforeseen gets it kicked this time too ^^

But I may be a little bit biased here...!

"

Guys, work on those models, and also Ghostbusters HQ, started before the ideas submission, or at least before they got a large amount of traction. That said, it would be nice if Lego at least made some token gesture to people that get to 10K with things that are similar to actual sets. Though they might get into murky water then.

Gravatar

A Viking village or Roman warcraft would be something new that a lot of people may welcome as a breath of fresh air, especially if it could be expanded with a full minifig theme and possibly linked to Asterix (very popular in current Lego ideas) if the marketing people need a corresponding animated series to increase publicity and interest.

The Union racer is one of the most beautiful Lego-built vehicles I've ever seen but it's rather niche and unfortunately I don't think it has a realistic chance at approval. If it's somehow approved, and they don't water it down and simplify it, it's a day-one purchase for me.

Racer aside, there are some really nice models in here, especially the lighthouse and the castle but due to size and / or cost I doubt I'll be in the market for either of them if approved.

@ThatBionicleGuy:
What I recall is that neither was explained through official channels. Both were summarily excluded, with an announcement to that effect, but no reasons were stated. Then one of the two submitters came forward and explained that being a LEGO Store employee is what got one of the two kicked. Everyone then assumed the same was true for the second submission, since neither seemed to violate any content rules.

@rslotb:
People threw such a fit over them “stealing” the idea to do the primary location for the Ghostbusters film (and having the audacity to also model it after the real building that actually exists in NYC) that they publicly announced they were giving the submitter a free copy of the Firehouse set. One copy. No profit sharing. The submitter, I believe, was thrilled with this development. The internet still hasn’t forgiven them for the whole affair.

An Aardman/Lego collaboration would be amazing. If you don't know anything about them, I suggest watching "A Grand Night Out: The History of Aardman" on Netflix.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Wallace & Gromit would be amazing, not only a fantastic model already, but it's reasonably sized as well so it'd be affordable for most who'd want it. The only downside is that maybe LEGO would think of it as not famous enough (in America especially) to release.

I'd love an IDEAS Lighthouse, but not a big fan of that actual submission.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I'd love anything Red Dwarf related, but for obvious reasons TLG will never touch that property with a barge pole.
The GMC Truck would lose its chrome in the final product and therefore half of its appeal to me, the Auto Union racecar looks great but would be too niche I guess, and the Little Venice, while great looking in the submission is too much like a Modular to have a realistic chance of being realized. And even if, chances are high it would be reduced in size and details quite considerably, so not really getting my hopes up for that one either.
Of the remaining my favorite would be Wallace and Gromit, by a wide margin.

And by the way, what on earth is that TX Master Game supposed to be. Looks hideous and like something that usually gets about 27 votes total, not 10.000. Is that a mistake?

737, lighthouse, Type C, Wallace & Gromit (of course!) and how about that car wash? Oh, also the pickup. All would be my choices for the finals.

Among Us looks neat but may be too fad-based to survive. Classic Castle could make it if the Blacksmith Shop sells well enough, and the other two historical sets have fair chances too. [I seriously expect TLG to remove all the horns on those vikings though, should they pick it up...]

When I read comments about the Starbug idea where people are saying they don't know the source material I look at their given location, and if it's anything other than the UK then I think yeah, right, how should they know. But when I see it is someone from the UK my thoughts are like has this person been living under a rock for the past thirty two years? I mean, I am certainly biased as I have been watching and loving the show almost since the beginning, but even someone from the UK with only a casual interest in TV shows should have heard about it. It's a total phenomenon. It has its own conventions, fandom, merchandise of every kind, it's like a UK version of Star Trek, only with humor in spades.
By the way, for the uninitiated, Starbug is a vehicle, not a creature. It's like a shuttlecraft and one of the main settings of the show, especially in later series. For anyone even remotely curious, google Red Dwarf "Marooned" and watch said episode. Well worth it to spend those 25 minutes even if after that you decide it's not for you.

I've lived in the US all my life, but I'm aware of Red Dwarf. I've even watched some of it, though it's been many years now (to give you an idea, around the time I last watched an episode, one of the stars was doing a side gig hosting a competition called Robot Wars). I think it was being syndicated through PBS, but I can't even find any listings right now.

I don't think it stands a chance. I mean, the model looks really nice, but that is a large model for one of the nichest of niche shows (I may have met one person face-to-face in my life who mentioned they had also watched it). Based on how many other TV shows they've rejected, and which ones they've accepted, this isn't what they're looking for. To date:

1. The Big Bang Theory
2. Doctor Who
3. Adventure Time
4. Voltron
5. The Flintstones
6. Friends
7. Sesame Street
8. Seinfeld

Of those, three (1, 6, & 8) were the 1 scripted series at some point during their run. 5 was the longest-running and most financially successful animated TV series until The Simpsons claimed that record over 30 years later. 7 has been franchised all over the globe. 2 is one of the few non-US series that has achieved worldwide success (and enjoys considerably more popularity in the US than Red Dwarf). 4 has other stuff going for it (anime fans, and a giant robot). And 3 was a flop of a set, proving why they need to be more selective about what TV shows they accept for Ideas. But they've rejected tons of TV show projects, like Golden Girls, Futurama, The Office, and several others, and I don't see anything about this project that suggests it will buck that trend.

After looking at that TX Master Games a bit more, I think it may have a good chance to get approved, if LEGO is interested in doing a board game. Judging by the videos on the creators Facebook page, there are already a lot of people having fun with this game. However, I can't find a ruleset anywhere, so I can't judge for myself at this stage whether the game is any good .

And sure, the set looks like it was put together by a small child, but LEGO designers will do a great job at improving the aesthetics, no doubt.

Making a board game would be an interesting change of pace for the Idea line. Not sure, though, if LEGO thinks this will sell beyond the Taekwan-do community that got the project its 10k votes.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

To my mind, TX Master and the MRI are the smartest submissions: minimal build effort to get an idea to 10k. They've pitched an idea, not a final model.
Looking at the criteria Lego have been applying and the amount of change they'll make to a submission, I think too many submitters put too much effort into their models, then loads expect that exact model to be built.

As for all the media franchises (TV, film, games etc), go search Wikipedia for most valuable franchises. If it's not on that list, then I reckon its highly unlikely to get approved as too niche.

I think the 737 and Castle have best chance: good stand-alone ideas for play and/or display with a range of interesting techniques and not too much like anything else Lego is currently making.

Effort in designing the project is one of the ways you convince people to vote for it. If I submitted a model that got accepted, what does it matter if I did a MOC worth displaying at conventions or a quick sketch model? Either way I’m in. But my chances of getting there improve if I didn’t phone it in.

I'd go ahead and knock off: The Coliseum, Police Station, and Bag end

Wow, so many that appeal to me here - Pandora, Bag End, Spirited Away! And that's a really nice castle design.
