Review: 40463 Easter Bunny

Posted by ,

The second of this semester's seasonal sets is the splendid 40463 Easter Bunny.

Like 40462 Valentine's Brown Bear that we reviewed earlier in the week, it consists of a cute animal on a curved-corner base. And also like that one, it has a secret hidden inside it...

The carrot inside the base is not as cute as the 'I ♥ U' in the Valentine's set but interesting nonetheless because it uses 7 parts that are functionally unnecessary and completely hidden from view in the completed model: the 2x4 alone would have sufficed to support the plates above.

The base provides a tiled area for the mammal to sit on, which is probably more extravagant around the edges than it needs to be.

The body of the lagomorph is built primarily studs up with curved bricks used to create its organic shape.

Animal heads are undoubtedly the most difficult part to get right, but I think the designer has nailed it here. It's connected to the body via a ball joint although the range of movement possible is minimal.

A round-ended 2x4 tile, new last year, provides a contour on the animal's hips.

Two decorated eggs accompany the rabbit and, while not particularly egg-shaped, they are certainly colourful!

With the rabbit and eggs mounted on the base it's an attractive model to have on display, more so than the Valentine's bear in my opinion.

It's a bright, colourful and charming model that will be appreciated by aficionados of seasonal sets and lovers of leporidae alike. In fact, it's the best rabbit LEGO has ever produced, so will be especially cherished by the latter. It'll also make the perfect Easter gift for youngsters who would otherwise receive too much chocolate!

It will be available from LEGO.com from 1st February for the same price as the Valentine's bear, £13.49 / $14.99 / 14.99€.

Not you lot again -- clear off!

Thanks to LEGO for providing this set for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Custy little brickhead looking type bunny, I’m buying it if I can find one

By in Netherlands,

Really well done. Could've almost released this without Easter theming.

By in Singapore,

I won't be getting this, but I love it much more than the Valentine's bear! I like the eggs too, I actually think that shape works very well. I do know someone who loves bunnies and would enjoy this.

Cripes, that's a bunny who watches you while you sleep.

By in United Kingdom,

For a moment I got excited and thought it came with goats.

By in United Kingdom,

Nice use of the thesaurus, Huw!
I like that white on black eye, too. Seems friendlier somehow than the normal black on white.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I think you put his rear feet backwards, Huw. Have a look at the boxart. It;s a nice set!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Really excellent shape for such a small build. (Although the carrot looks more like a pneumatic road drill!).
The February shopping list continues to grow.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, that's today's lesson in rabbit taxonomy sorted!

As a medieval and space collector, I'm not sure why, but I want this set.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Now this one is more pleasant looking than the bear, again with those goats.

It looks pretty good, especially with the Goats

Gravatar

I'm glad you all appreciate the efforts I went to to educate you on the bunny's scientific classification ;-)

Thank you for this gift to humanity.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

If that is the best Lego rabbit I don't wanna know what the previous ones looked like.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I agree with some previous comments. This is a really nice bunny! I really only collected a few of the previous seasonal vignette sets, but I might have to pick one of these up! :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Awesome Review! As usual, Huw will never miss a chance to show off his big lego goat collection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

OMG it's so cute! I don't often get these little seasonal sets but I might have to pick up this one!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Executed very well! It’s very cute. I wanna buy it. Too bad local LEGO brand store is closed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

a must buy even without the goats ;)
alas not showing up on the US lego site right now

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those goats are starting to multiply like... wait for it... rabbits.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So a brick bunny isn't a lagomorph. It's a Legomorph.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Fantastic Easter gift i might buy two like I did with the chicken and the grey bunny previously!
Well done lego..

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Loving the Goats. Saw the post and scrolled past all the pics first to see if they’d invaded this one before I read the rest of it.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

So the lagomorph obviously lays eggs... But where is the goathugger? Or am I mixing things up here?

O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.

Nevermind, it's only a flesh wound anyway ;-P

Gravatar
By in United States,

That bunny is both extremely well made and adorable. It's miles above and beyond the Valentine's Bear!

By in Belgium,

This is so cute! I actually have a real one :)

TIM: Well, that's no ordinary rabbit!
ARTHUR: Ohh.
TIM: That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!
ROBIN: You tit! I soiled my armor I was so scared!
TIM: Look, that rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer!

By in United Kingdom,

Someone earlier mentioned that the feet were backwards, and I seem to remember checking & that indeed being the case... but now the feet are the right way round.

Was it all just a dream...?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would guess you buy it at your local LEGO store once it reopens or online. It hasn't been released yet though.

Strategy...
IT - they want to avoid crashing the server because of the ideas Medieval Blacksmith release. LOL
Marketing - if you wanted a Easter bunny "force" one to make another purchase. Hmmm...

Same in the UK. It appeared online at midnight, but without any product images. I ordered one (my daughter is bunny-mad), but in the morning there was no sign of it on LEGO.com. My order’s ‘In the warehouse’, though, so fingers crossed…

By in Canada,

Listed as "Coming Soon" online now, but it is available store.
