Random set of the day: ADU Walker
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 30140 ADU Walker, released in 2011. It's one of 10 Space sets produced that year. It contains 34 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 491 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.
Help me come to life! If you like the set I've chosen for you today, please pledge your support for me on LEGO Ideas so I have a chance of becoming an official LEGO set!

Out of Lego's entire history of mecha? This is probably one of the strangest.
I remember this theme! This set reminds me of some of the Exo-Force small sets.
I'm sure in the world of Alien Conquest this makes sense, but from the outside, it just seems inefficient.
That seems pretty back-heavy
@LegoRobo:
Probably all of him. He's clearly lifting his left leg in a stepping motion to cause the right leg of the mech to take an opposing step via some sort of mental interface built into the helmet. So he's suspending himself by his arms, making walking motions with his legs, and having to remember that everything is wired up backwards. And he's gritting his teeth so hard he's going to need dental work pretty soon.
Alien Conquest was a great theme. So bad it did not last long.
The alien "brain sucker" piece was amazing.
The spiritual cousin of 71740 (in terms of ugly blue forms of transportation), which was reviewed today. Never change, Huwbot.

I got 200 of them through LUGBulk. You can see them all here:

I'm particularly fond of Earth's Mightiest Snackfood.
Anyone have any idea about what ADU means?
Just realized that the guy is standing upright when the mech is to.

Alien defense unit.
Obviously going to squash all the aliens
Nothing rare or unique today, but that's alright. After all, it's the regular sets that make certain parts more interesting from a distribution standpoint.
Two so-so/mediocre mechs in today’s articles? Interesting.
So why does Lego sometimes remove instructions from it's website that it had previously made available?
I am confused at policy, it feels like a Walmart or Amazon policy not a policy from such a reputable company?
Ymmv but I download alot of instructions... I download this one before now can't find it where I got it in first place? Same with Gandolf @ Gul-Dur polybag
HAHAHAHAHA! Space Pants!!
This is by far one of the coolest ways to get around while fighting aliens. You use the the robot legs to to get around, and then use your actual legs to kick aliens that get too close.
Alien conquest is underrated tbh. Also, just finished watching Mars Attacks! What a coincidence!
I always wanted to get polybags like this. I always wanted to use a lot of these so I could use them to either bulk up the background armies or to modify into different variants for stopmotion movies. Ah, those were fun days...
Today bananaworld completes its 40th orbit around the Sun, and Huwbot chose my favourite theme. Cheers for keeping me young, Huwbot!
Prototype Electro Mech.
Cute little mech polybag.
If it weren't for the yellow cheese slopes it would walk better.
I got every alien conquest set back in the day except for the two polybags. Always looked longingly at them on ebay though. I think this might inspire me to complete my alien conquest collection.
“It’s the wrong trousers, Gromit! The wrong trousers!”

"This was the rare polybag back in the day. In the UK, it was a competition prize with The Sun and was changing hands for ~£15. The loads were found and put on ebay."
Thanks for the info... I guess that’s why I never knew about it back then.
I only found of its existence 2 months ago when I got a really cheap sealed one on eBay.
Today such small set would be a magazine gift.

True. Sometimes the regular sets are better than the rare ones.
Much adu about nothing....

Sign me up for a murderous Alien Conquest penguin. Might its mech equivalent be holding two trains by its flippers?
I love this theme! I am really sad to this day that the second wave got canceled.
I loved the Alien Conquest theme.
I just picked up this set at a Bricks & Minifigs store last year.
My favorite is 7066.
The similarity to 71740 leads me to wonder how random Huwbot's Random set of the day really is.
This was at a time when polybags, where I live, were a pretty exotic thing. Walmart hadn't even started carrying them as seasonal items yet (Easter, Halloween, Christmas--in the past couple-three years it's been year-round); and since I wasn't really shopping online (now, I'd just go to Bricklink), the only place I could find them was Target; one and one half hours away from me. I tend to recall picking up a bunch of different ones that year, but I didn't get this one. I can't recall if they didn't have it, or it just seemed too weird.

Have they started to degrade yet? I have a few and they have a white powdery film over them.
@cody6268:
Oddly enough, Target doesn't appear to be doing polybags for Easter this year. I've checked a few stores, and all I've found by way of either shelf tags or physical presence were small boxed sets that you could already find in the regular LEGO section.
@Jackthenipper:
*sigh* That has been a lingering concern, but so far I don't see any evidence of this. Most of them are packed up in cannisters or bags, where they don't get a lot of exposure to light or intense heat. I haven't actually put the Cthuliens on display for a few years now. A small handful of them have been out on display in my home, and the worst that seems to have happened is they grew a layer of dust. On one it was a bit more persistent than the others, but for the most part they appear shiny again.
