News round-up

Posted by ,

It's been a busy day for news today, so I thought I'd post a round-up of the headlines:

  • Leeks leaked: The normally squeaky-clean site BricksFanz has leaked this image of a set that is part of a new vegetables collection: 10421 Leeks. Apparently other sets in the series will include 10422 Rainbow Carrots and 10423 Garden Peas.
  • Adults only: According to Jay's Brick Blog LEGO will now require proof of age when purchasing 18+ sets in an attempt to keep unsuitable material such as Winnie the Pooh out of the hands of minors.
  • Glue: LEGO is set to release Brick Stick, an adhesive to enable non-permanent bonding of LEGO bricks, reports The Brothers Brick.
  • Jack Stone's 20th anniversary: The Brick Fan has revealed that the much-loved theme is making a comeback: a number of sets are being re-released which will each include an exclusive gold maxi-fig.
  • Smart bricks: Fed up with treading on LEGO with bare feet? LEGO has come up with a solution: bricks that move out of the way before you do so.
  • Collectable bricks: The Rambling Brick has disclosed that a range of limited edition collectable bricks is being launched, including a 2x4 brick with the LEGO logo on the studs upside-down.

Have I missed any significant stories? Let me know in the comments if so.

Very funny but the 18+ Duplo was the best!

(Also it's Jack's 20th anniversary)

Thanks goodness they’re keeping Winnie the Pooh and Sesame Street out of the hands of impressionable kids!

Honestly those leeks are dope. Forget Modular Buildings; give us modular vegetables.

By in United States,

When did Brickset start covering leeks?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Um... I'm pretty sure all or most of those were just April Fool's things. I would buy the leeks, though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wish that Leeks set were true.

Hmm...suddenly I have an overwhelming urge to play Skyrim and do a little Nordic cooking.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Jack Stone's *tenth* anniversary? Have I finally lost all track of time, or shouldn't that be his twentieth?

I had a good snort at the mention of Winnie the Pooh being unsuitable material to have in the hands of minors, thank-you for that xD

And honestly... those leeks look real and wouldn't even surprise me if they were an actual thing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yep, sign me up for the leeks too. I would also quite happily go for some brick-built carrots and onions.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Space coin is available on the Australian shop at home rewards center for 1150 points, maybe it's not stocked everywhere yet?

Jack Stone was a poorly-selling line that featured lots of big specialized pieces and weird designs, plus strange "maxifigs" that were 2x the size of a minifigure.

Hahaha, the Lego community always comes with the good jokes for April 1st. That one about keeping Winnie the Pooh out of the hands of minors is funny.

A store in NZ sent this in an email on 1 April: LEGO has announced its LARGEST SET EVER! With over 20,000 pieces the "Block Me" set will allow you to build your very own life-size LEGO version of yourself! Using LEGO's new Block Me app for iPhone and Android you'll be able to take 3D photos of yourself, in any pose, with any outfit, and submit it to LEGO's powerful new artificial intelligence (AI) master builder, who will convert you into a 3D LEGO build, complete with instructions. The set will retail for $4,999, making it not only LEGO's largest set ever, but also its most expensive. Brick Store is taking orders NOW for this awesome set. To get yours, visit www.brickstore.nz

By in Puerto Rico,

Yeah what about the Lego Duplo for two bricks for $30? That has to be an April Fools correct?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Not going to lie.

I'd totally be interested in seeing a Jack Stone rebooted theme.

Just for the sheer what-the-heck-ness of it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Did anyone else think of Hatsune Miku with the leeks when you saw it?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Rambling Brick's article reminds me of the person who posted on the Lego subreddit because they thought their BrickHeadz came with a misprinted eye. They'd put it on the wrong way around.

And I'm the one who says Galidor done with proper action figures that actually look like their character likeness would look good.

I think the closest to that we've come so far is the 4+ Friends sets. They are similar in that there are quite a few large, limited-use pieces, but still, not as many as Jack Stone. Jeez. I come across those from the 4-5 sets I was bought as a kid, and to this date, haven't found a use for any of the parts. No wonder only like a tenth of my Jack Stone parts remain.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Good thing I'm turning 18 this year, I need that Porsche 911.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I check in to Brickset almost every day, but this is my favorite day every year. People are as creative with their pranks as they are with their bricks and I love it. Bravo everyone!

And yes, I too would buy the leeks!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd absolutely buy the leeks if they were real.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No joke I'd actually buy those leaks

@ThatBionicleGuy :
In Finland, the uber-wholesome TV series Little House on the Prairie was released as a full-series box set with an adults-only rating. Turns out in order to qualify for a lower rating, you have to pay by the total runtime to have someone watch it, and at a few hundred hours it would have cost a fortune. So they figured everyone would know better, and opted to release it without paying for a rating classification, which, by law, requires them to list it as “adults only”.

@jimmystang :
I like them on April 1st. What I don’t like is running across a site that claims something like a revival of Darkwing Duck being in the works, getting all excited...and then noticing the date it was posted...while I’m reading it nine months later...and nobody bothered to disarm it on April 2nd. For one day, it’s fun, even if you fall for it. After that, it really needs a disclaimer.

There was also the time Eurobricks posted the exact same joke two years in a row. It wasn’t even that great a joke the first time, but when you read it and your first thought is that they might have just copy/pasted it, that’s a mood-killer.

Wow! That seems amazing!!! I'm quite sure I wouldn't have enough money to get it, but I would love to even just see a digital version of myself in Lego form!

Yay!! I’ve been trying to find a way to glue two lightsaber hilts together for my custom Dark Rey minifigure. That glue stick would be perfect!!!

Also, did you hear the news that LEGO Ideas are now accepting Firefly submissions. I’ve almost finished my custom Serenity!!
