Review: (more) 1-wide DOTS bracelets
Posted by MeganL,
The DOTS line up has a wide variety of bracelets, especially with having debuted 1-wide bracelets earlier this year.
The printed tiles included in them are always of interest, so on a recent essential shopping trip, I happened by the LEGO store to get some bracelets other than the ones which Tiggy had modelled a few weeks ago. Plus, my dogs Dalton and Chadwick clamoured for equal time, seeing as Tiggy's been featured twice.
I selected 41918 Adventure Bracelets for the bright colours, and I rather liked the "Route BFF" printed tile. As each package contains two bracelets, and I knew from previous experience that two bracelets equals one dog collar, I picked up a second, 41934 Starlight Bracelets as I'm rather fond of purple.
The Adventure bracelet comes with a colourful selection of tiles with bright orange and teal bracelets. There's the "Route BFF" tiles as well as printed tiles of a bicycle and a camera, plus two animal faces - to me they look like a fox and a winking bear. All the printed tiles are unique to this set.
The Starlight tiles are more purple themed and with only one printed tile - the constellation, which is one of my favourites. In addition, there are two pieces that have some texture - the round tile with a raised star and a square tile with a raised decoration in one corner. Of these, only the constellation tile is unique to this set - the textured tiles are found in 41921 Extra Dots Series 3.
There are enough tiles in each package so you can make your own designs on the bracelets.
The bracelets are long enough to fit on my wrist. I agree with Alice in that the 1-wide seems a bit more elegant and adult friendly. Plus, as was the case for the 2-wide bracelets, if you connect two bracelets together they can be decorative collars to somewhat willing dogs. Since both packages had teal bracelets, they tried that side first.
A couple of treats later, the bracelets can be turned around so that the other colour is showing to the front.
One downside of the 1-wide is that it can get lost in the fur of a short haired dog. I think for the purposes of a dog collar, the 2-wide is better. For some reason the 1-wide bothered my dogs more and they kept scratching at it. While no tiles were dislodged, some definitely were moved out of alignment as evidence by the picture of all four bracelets.
Overall thoughts
As Alice mentioned, the retail price of $5.99 per bracelets does work out to be quite high based on the piece count. In particular, it's disappointing that 41934 has only the one unique tile. They are perfect for an impulse buy or party favours (for when there are parties again).
Of course, they also provide value in annoying your dogs, if you're so inclined.

I seriously need a bracelet to put on my cat.
Timothy and Boseman?
@mediAFOL - actually, John and James, both British scientists.
This is fantastic. Multiple applications...TLG Marketing needs you...
You better count your dots to check they didn't eat them. Because they are dogs......
Do the dogs have lore?

I feel terribly shallow, now.
Never mind the Lego, I'd be happy to see more pictures of dogs on here :)
@mediAFOL - most people think of the actors. I’m just a geek who names her dogs after scientists (previous dogs have been named Darwin, Watson, and Tesla, who everyone thought I named after the hair metal band).
@WemWem - not much lore - we’ve had Dalton for two years and Chadwick for just over one, both adopted from a senior dog rescue. Both were owner surrenders in different rural California shelters prior to finding a home with us.

Scientists? Wow, those are clever dogs!
Yikes, those dogs look highly realistic! Even including some poseability on the white one.
Kudos to the designer of these new UCS pets sets...
;-)
They look to be attentive and co-operative models and seem to have sat still longer than Tiggy did!
Megan tells me the promise of treats helps but I'm not sure that would work with cats...
I got the 1-wide bracelets as soon as they came out, they are more elegant (for pastel-colored plastic bracelets). As noted in previous reviews, you don't get quite the same landscape to work with for patterns. I quite like them and am working on some MOCs using them.
@Huw:
Cats are smarter than dogs, and wearing bracelets is whitewashing the Sawyer fence. A proper cat would have scammed them out of the treat for doing the “favor” of letting them have all the fun of modeling bracelets. Or my first cat would have just intimidated them into doing it and taken the treat anyways. But she was half-feral and never really settled into home life (eater of snakes, slayer of hummingbirds, chaser of foxes...).

same here.*^____^*
Wow—the darker of your dogs (is that one Dalton) looks so much like my dog, with the exception of the coloration (mine is brindle, but has the same white marking). Mine also has a bit of an underbite—but other than that, very similar! Any idea what breeds he is?
Thanks for the review! It’s fun to see these shown off creatively like this.
Cute pups! Love the constellation tile!

I assume "long haired" was meant instead, given the dogs in the photos have short hair and the bracelets aren't lost in their fur.

We've never had a wisdom panel done on him, but our best guess is some kind of dachshund mix - he has an elongated body and relatively short legs. And yes, that is Dalton!
