Extreme!
Missed opportunity to make an Extreme Team reference. The colors are literally right there. It's begging you 2011 Technic Design Team, and you let it down.
This looks extremely cruisy.
I saw this and thought it was a new set being reviewed :O)
Kind of an oxymoron: extreme, which implies off-road, and cruiser, which implies on-road.

2011 sets are allowed for RSOTD now. Friends is for next year.
^Guess to parody a catchphrase: "On or off the road, this set won't fail!"
Extreme. Ex-Tremé. Formerly Tremé. So was this used on the first season of that HBO show that was set in New Orleans before being released as a set?
@brickengineeringdude:
You forgot moron, which implies pointing it at the nearest trailhead and engaging “cruise control” while taking a nap. Because you know somewhere, someone has probably tried this. Certainly several people have been in accidents on freeways under similar circumstances many times prior to the introduction of lane guidance and other early milestones on the path to self-driving cars.
It's a very modern set for 2011, even the body style could still be taken to represent the current generation of new market models on the road.
None of the parts are unique or rare, but I was not familiar with the large differential gearbox; 62821.
I was hoping for something a little more... well, extreme. I guess “Soccer Mom Cruiser” didn’t test well in their focus groups.
@CarolinaOnMyMind:
Clearly you’ve never seen one get edged out for the last parking space...
It seems like LEGO Technic hasn't changed much over the past decade... The built style used in this set is pretty much identical to what we get today.
Also, apparently this set was branded with "Limited Edition" on the box, but there doesn't seem to be anything particularly special about it...
Got to agree with comments. Could be part of the 2021 technic range.
Even the price is very 2021
Ah 2011, when we still had proper Technic sets. How I miss these days.
The only proper Technic set we got this year was the Osprey.
Oh, wait...
At least I got a clone version of that one.
To be fair, the Osprey would have been a 2020 Technic set, and the only proper 2021 Technic set so far is 42121. All the others would back in the day have been part of the Racers theme, not Technic.
@ash2907 It could, but only with the adition of a stickersheet with 20+ stickers ;-)
Probably one of the best reasonably priced sets for kids to get into Technic cars; steering, 4 piston engine, rear suspension, with plenty of space to include motorisation. Then there were so many panels and beams, which allowed you to create your own beach buggies, hot rods, pick up trucks or even a futuristic drop-ship on rebrickable (which is the main purpose of Technic).

I disagree, I think a Koenigsegg Jesko is extreme as well, but it's not an off-roader.

Guess what, that oxymoron rings true for pretty much all SUVs out there
\o/
After 10 years, this is the first RSOTD that I own!
@LegoDavid:
“Special Edition” is a catch-all term for any non-polybag set that’s exclusive to one retail partner. Maybe “Limited Edition” has a similar meaning?
Looks rather like the Bronco R.

Perhaps, but the beauty of it is, it didn't need a licence for that.
Many old Technic sets looked like something kids knew, but didn't need spell it out or pay licensing fees for it.
@ForestMenOfEndor:
The Baja race truck they built last year? So you’re saying Ford made an unlicensed rip-off of a 9-year old LEGO set?
