Review: 76200 Bro Thor's New Asgard
Posted by CapnRex101,
Super Heroes sets traditionally prioritise action and conflict. 76200 Bro Thor's New Asgard has abandoned that convention though, containing Thor alongside Korg and Miek! These delightful characters maintain notable popularity and the minifigures appear impressive.
Furthermore, the environment includes superb details, seeming reminiscent of modern sitcom-based sets! The model achieves outstanding accuracy when compared with this onscreen location and various references are included as well. However, the exclusive minifigures are definitely the most interesting feature of the set.
Minifigures
Following the 'snap', Thor enters complete depression and abandons his muscular physique, becoming noticeably overweight. Minifigures appear poorly-suited to recreating different body types, although this torso decoration seems effective and continues onto the hips. Additionally, these chequered trousers correspond precisely with the onscreen character.
Unfortunately, the double-sided head returns from previous versions of Thor, exhibiting cheerful and determined expressions. Neither seem appropriate for the minifigure which is disappointing because Thor's misery is notably important to his development during Avengers: Endgame. The dishevelled dark tan hair component looks excellent though.
Korg was introduced during Thor: Ragnarok and has become extraordinarily popular, hence I anticipate this minifigure proving desirable. The new component which forms the top of Korg's head includes fantastic rocky texture and complements the head underneath, which continues that texture through decoration. Both endearing facial expressions appear perfect as well.
While this beloved character commonly features heavy Kronan armour, Korg evidently enjoys relaxation and accordingly sports a Hawaiian shirt during Avengers: Endgame. This appealing design compares favourably with the film, especially because dual-moulded arms are included. The legs are somewhat inaccurate though, since Korg lacks trousers onscreen. The minifigure appears impressive, nevertheless, also wearing headphones.
These minifigures are focused upon leisure and carry appropriate accessories. Thor therefore wields a trans-clear bottle alongside Stormbreaker, while Korg includes a slice of pizza and an intricate video game controller. This element returns from 71025 Collectable Minifigures Series 19 and another is supplied inside Thor's hut.
Korg rarely appears without Miek and this interesting character is accordingly available here. This design is undoubtedly simple, comprising a decorated minifigure head and two lavender flowers which represent the alien's stubby limbs. However, this figure appears quite charming and the printed head looks marvellous, incorporating Miek's insectoid eyes.
The Completed Model
Following the destruction of their home, any remaining Asgardians relocate to the Norwegian village of Tønsberg. Those entering the village, which becomes known as New Asgard, travel past this welcome sign. The sticker corresponds precisely with Avengers: Endgame, featuring accurate text and an attractive serifed font that also matches the source material.
Thor's messy home contains numerous intriguing curios and the model undoubtedly captures this chaotic environment. The balance between earthy shades and more vibrant colours looks superb and I think its size seems reasonable, comfortably accommodating the minifigures and various significant details which are present during the movie.
Focusing that detail upon the interior has detracted attention from the exterior, which appears comparatively bland. However, the austere entrance looks great and the textured walls seem reasonable because the original structure is constructed from roughly-hewn stone. Improved detail would have been appreciated though, perhaps including the base of the roof above the mismatched walls.
Pizza boxes are found throughout the house, featuring stickers which advertise Stormbaker's Pizza. The red and white colours reflect the source material and some printed pizza elements are provided too. The stickered newspaper has inspired minor controversy, since the headline mentions the 'Blip'. That typically describes the period between Thanos' and Hulk's respective 'Snaps', rather than Thanos' original action.
Otherwise, the attention to detail remains tremendous. The sand green sofa provides room for the three minifigures and reflects the movie, while the surrounding accessories are also based directly upon the onscreen location. The black whip, for example, represents a coiled rope that appears during the film, while the flame yellowish orange feathers portray darts thrown against the wall.
Additional items include a decorative pitchfork and a model sailing boat, both of which appear onscreen and demonstrate brilliant attention to detail. The keg situated beside the door is also interesting because this features two trans-yellow 1x1 round plates, presumably depicting beer and seemingly contradicting LEGO's long-standing policy concerning alcohol.
The fireplace is almost completely concealed, between the keg and a chest containing several trans-clear bottles and a fish. However, the trans-orange flames look splendid and I like this air conditioning unit too, under a photograph of Thor, Valkyrie, Korg and Miek during happier times. This wall also features a clip for attaching Stormbreaker, efficiently using every available space.
Among the copious enjoyable details distributed throughout this model, the most appealing is perhaps the television screen. This sticker displays a neat hybrid between Fortnite and LEGO video games, capturing the camera position and inventory panel present on Fortnite, while the stud counter and the LEGO environment originate from LEGO games. Additionally, the screen includes mention of NoobMaster69, Korg's apparent nemesis!
Overall
76200 Bro Thor's New Asgard represents an extraordinary departure from usual Marvel Super Heroes models, completely embracing the humour which has appeared throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The minifigures are therefore excellent, closely resembling their onscreen counterparts but for Thor's inappropriately cheerful expression.
Furthermore, this model achieves fantastic accuracy when compared with the source material, integrating numerous subtle details from the movie alongside more prominent references. This set costs £27.99 or $29.99 which feels fairly expensive, although I find the minifigures and their jumbled environment sufficiently appealing to warrant that price. After all, the set contains Korg!
This set was provided for review by The LEGO Group but the review represents an expression of my own opinions.

A really neat example of a Marvel set using the characters and their environment instead of weird mechs and planes? I'm sold.
Aw man…not pleased with the pleased face on my Thor boy…
Everything else is pretty groovy though. Want this set bad!
I still find it weird LEGO green lit a set based off a scene where a character becomes a depressed alcoholic.
I mean... it is a funny scene, but kind of odd to make a play toy out of.
This is really cool! The vignette style is nice and a really cool concept. And Korg. What more can I say?
A great little build Ill definitely be getting day one!
I don't do Marvel Lego but this set is so kooky its now going to be my first Marvel purchase. Love the unconventional approach to the set, its messy, fun and jam packed with details ... and it has Korg!
.
What a great set, and love the details and minifigs. I don’t buy Marvel sets either, I buy DC; however, I love this set. I still think LEGO could’ve added a piece over the torso for Thor’s belly, in a similar way Bombur the dwarf had in The Hobbit theme.
Lego Miek sees into my soul…
There's something about the fact that this is actually labeled "Bro Thor's" that makes me cringe. It's sounds like a marketing thing that some 50 year old thought sounded cool. Neat little set besides that detail which I care way more about than I should, haha :)

A funny scene about a depressed alcoholic is a feat in itself! :-P
This set has high quality MOC vignette vibes to it and I. Am. HERE for it!
Cool set! That belly print on the legs is terrible though. Should have sticked to a print on just the torso like the cmf sumo.

Then again, you could also see it as a scene where Thor got a much-needed pep talk before getting back into the superhero business, so maybe I'm just overthinking things again!
And I can't deny it's a well-done display. Kinda nice they didn't decide to make a "Bro Thor" mech or something along those lines.
Just wondering, do you think a recoloured version of the sandwich board used for Bombur in The Hobbit would have worked better for Thor?
I’m really happy that Lego is doing a set like this. It’s not aimed at kids & it reminds me of the Dr Strange set from a while ago. If I had one gripe, I wish they had gone for a bigger size, they could have added the Hulk in the back of a Land Rover Defender, included Valkerye and just made the set similar to Big Bang Theory or Friends Coffee House. I’m definitely buying this but it might have to wait in line as the Star Wars sets coming out this August are brilliant & I’m probably going to buy all of them…eventually! ??????
I can't wait to see someone turn this set into a full building with 4 walls and a roof.
Think this set looks fantastic! A very interesting departure from the traditional Marvel style set. Hopefully this sells well, and opens the door to more location based sets for MCU films. So many great environments have been ignored in favor of helicopters and tricycles.

well, they did a set of the furnace scene from Toy Story 3, i don't get any more surprised than that xD
I'm pretty sure Thor needs a mech to satiate his sadness..
But seriously, this set is pretty fun. The scene was funny, even though it is more serious matter. Getting Korg is always a plus. The mess is creative and I'm glad to see they chose some quality level of detail.

My thoughts exactly. no "modern weapons" for Lego sets, but...there are a lot of empty beer bottles in this set. Maybe if they put it out in the 18+ line...
$30 is a total joke for this set.
Once again begging the review team to find something to say about Lego products besides "accurate" and "corresponds precisely". I can see that the set looks like what occurs in the movie by looking at it. I would like to hear some actual opinions on the model.
No mech and no typos? Get out!

What do you think we should be commenting on that we are not already? I think accuracy is important for products like this one, so should be discussed.
If I saw this without knowing anything about it, I would think it was a joke MOC.

The review covered the minifigures, the set details, the set choices, the set accuracy and the overall set value, interwoven with observations, opinions and evaluations. I agree that $30 seems too high but I won’t end up skipping this set just to save $5 to $10 on principle.
This set seems to have been designed as a SDCC exclusive so I’m excited to get an opportunity at one for once.
I agree with others, the belly print on the trousers looks bad, and if they had avoided it, the trousers would have been a lot more useful on some other figs (peasant farmer perhaps..)
Responding to the point above about what to comment on in the reviews, I really miss having a section for cool, rare and new parts that are included, I seem to remember this used to feature a lot more in Brickset reviews than it does now.
I realise that LEGO has a history of portraying large-but-not-bigfig-sized characters using minifigures, but perhaps a 1x1 plate under each of Korg’s feet would be appropriate. He is 7’7” in the MCU and 8’ in the comics after all.
Nice review! It would be great if the set had included the pickup with Hulk and Rocket, but it is an excellent set anyway!

To be fair empty beer bottles aren’t associated with violence, for the most part. The loophole that LEGO has is that they don’t label the booze in the sets, kids can interpret it as whatever they want I guess. In any case, the severed arm with gore on the end of it in the Jurassic Park T-Rex Rampage set was the darkest part of any LEGO set IMO.
Absolutely LOVE this set!!
A departure from the usual vehicle/mech heavy sets is a breath of fresh air. Hoping for more like this in the future.
You know it's kind of weird Thor even gets obese considering his usually godlike physique. Like, it doesn't seem he has to workout to maintain his figure so he must have really let himself go, barely moving and eating a ton.
A great way to do a different set that is, nonetheless, totally appropriate to the source material. We've had several vignette sets for Star Wars but I think this is the first for a Marvel set.
This is a definite buy from me and that says a lot as I thought I was largely done with Marvel sets as I have most of what I already want.
It’s so brilliant to get another Marvel vignette scene like the Dr Strange set that isn’t just another mech slapped together. A must buy.
I love the Marvel films but I have always found the sets they release unappealing - but this set is the complete opposite! I can't wait to pick this one up - more vignettes/dioramas like this please Lego!
Just love these kind of sets, keep 'em coming Lego!
Explain to me why in a set with three identical pizza box parts they are done as stickers instead of prints? Wouldn't that justify a printed piece on volume alone? TLG is willing to do one-off single printed parts in many other sets, but here we have to suffer their lazy sticker obsessed cost cutting?
Unless there's been some stupid licensing restriction by Disney on using Stormbaker's Pizza outside of a marvel set. Hmm...
almost thought this set contained a Brick 1 x 8 sand green brick :(
expensive part for the Green Grocer

In the mythology, he drinks the mass of all the water in the oceans of earth in mead, and doesn’t gain a pound, so it’s kinda weird that 5 years of beer does that to him.

That's the dangerous side-effect of consuming vast amounts of grain-based alcohol versus fermented honey.
I'm hoping this set leads to military type sets.
We have here, a ton of alcohol, a beer keg, drunks playing a game. Thor depressed, etc.
If they can allow alcoholic drinking in a kid's set, surely a tank or fighter jet would be fine no?
A lovely set.

Me too! That was the first thing I thought when I saw the pics
Day 1 buy for me, though I do think it's strange that they put a 7+ rating on it when most other small display sets get the 18+ rating. They did the same with 76193 Benatar which was 14+, does mean these 2 sets get nicer box art than the boring black backgrounds though so I can't really complain.
I don't collect Marvel (I like it, just have to limit the genres that I collect), but this set will be an exception. It is just too cute !

There are so many things different between mythology Thor and MCU Thor that I am confused why you would think that relevant ;)
This is a surprising concept for a Marvel set, and I applaud LEGO for releasing it.
No mech and no stupidcopter with questionable design.
Just a nice vignette of a main character's turning point.

It was just a fun fact that fit with the comment. I am well aware that the Marvel hero Thor is vastly different from the Norse myth.

I'm not the person you're replying to, but I for one would like the vocabulary to be varied a bit. Sometimes reviews here repeat phrases, can read a bit stilted, and use too many words where fewer would suffice. "A picture speaks a thousand words" kind of idea sometimes? I suspect this is part of MrBrick's comment.
I'm not trying to be rude or mean and hope this isn't received that way; I do think the original person's comment probably could have been worded more diplomatically.
I love this site and the articles and reviews. Hope this is taken constructive. Thanks Capn!

Wish they did these diorama's more often. Much better Marvel representation than all those vehicles

I think this is another really good review but before reading any comments, I was going to comment and request if future reviews could give pictures of the reference material (provided they aren't breaking any copyright.) I remember this scene but only watched the movie once so I would have never remembered all the details except the pizza, bottles, and tv. My request applies not just to this set but most Lego sets built from specific things, whether it's a Toyota Celica, Millenium Falcon, or even an Adidas shoe. Just for reference. Thank you!

I can't tell if you're being serious or not...
There's a massive cultural difference between American and European views on alcohol. In Denmark you can buy yourself a beer aged 16. Exposing children to alcohol is really not as big a deal as in the US. I can't see how depicting beer in a set (in a way that doesn't explicitly say it is beer) could be equated with changing policy on military vehicles?
This is a fun little scene, I've no interest in the figures but there's bound to be people who only want the figures so I might see if I can find it cheap on eBay for the scene only.
By changing the subject: @CapnRex101, could you please post an article on 'Adding minifigs to 75309 UCS Republic Gunship'? Many people, including me, are interested in the subject and we would love to see if and how the minifigures fit and what design changes should be made to fit the clones in the cockpits. You will definitely need these minifigs:
https://brickset.com/minifigs/sw0609/clone-pilot-printed-legs
https://brickset.com/minifigs/sw0910/clone-trooper-episode-2-printed-legs
Also, many people (myself included) have extra parts from
https://brickset.com/parts/6004908/figure-accessories
I would like to see the crew with the weapons you recommend for this brilliant model!
^And besides, we never really saw minifigs in the hold...

Indeed. In the UK, as long as a parent or legal guardian approves, children as young as 5 can legally drink alcohol in a private place.

Maybe it was an opportunity to re-use Toy Story's Woody's legs.
@Galactus , I was thinking that too. From LEGO’s perspective though, the extra long legs are undesirable as you can’t fit minifigures with them in many official vehicles, on horseback (without it looking weird) etc. At least with 1x1 plates, you can pop them off when you need standard-sized legs.
I suppose the ideal would be have the set come with two pairs of legs: standard and extra long. LEGO is moving towards offering alternatives in sets (such as with and without stud shooters for the Classic TV Batmobile). So the idea of having a choice of legs included in the set isn’t entirely crazy.

I don't understand the praise for the figures, when, looking at the source material, they look really really bad.
Korg looks nothing like Korg, Thor's belly print is a disaster and Miek,... wel, lets not say anything about him...
Abandoned the concept of conflict??? Not when Noobmaster69 is online...
I love this set.

Same! I feel like this is much better value than a mech for the same price.
Initially, I was very down to get this set. However, after further evaluation, I've decided that $30 is too much for a set that adds little to my collection other than a Thor with a wrong face and a Korg that I could just get off of Bricklink.
