LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga trailer and release update
Posted by CapnRex101,LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was teased during 2019 and its release has been repeatedly delayed, unfortunately.
Additional information has been confirmed at Gamescom 2021, including a new trailer and an updated release window of Spring 2022. View the trailer after the break...
This trailer includes the galactic map, displaying 24 planets. Five remain unidentified here, although their locations suggest that they are probably Exegol, Coruscant, Jakku, Takodana and Mustafar. Starkiller Base should also appear during the game.
Are you looking forward to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga? I certainly am and hope to provide some comprehensive gameplay coverage when the game is finally released.

Already bought this last year. I wonder if GAME store will remember to send me it :-D
In a strange way, sometimes seeing games get delayed can be a good thing. In recent years I've seen plenty of games that despite coming out on time, had plenty of bugs and glitches that didn't get ironed out, and parts that certainly felt rushed. I hope this game is well polished when it officially gets released.
I was hoping this could be a Christmas present for the kids this year but as long as it releases in good shape that is what matters.
Yes! I love the fact its expanding on the old movies and tv shows rather than just making one from the latest films, for example the escape from the big fish creature in naboo looks so cool!
Was hoping for it to be equally weighted to each trilogy, but almost half the planets are sequel ones.
Where is Felucia, Mygeeto, Salecami, Cato Neimoidia (Order 66 montage)
Hopefully there will be DLC for TV shows to add in some others
Navarro (Mandalorian)
Ryloth (CW, BB, Rebels)
Dathomir (CW, Rebels)
Umbara (CW)
Lothal (Rebels)
Can't wait to play 2/3rds of this when it comes to PS Plus and shelf it forever.

If in the numerical films (which this is based on) their only role is to be a background for background characters to get killed, I don't know if they would be worth using months of development on
I am looking forward to seeing this game released. Let’s hope this is the last delay.

TFA alone had as many new planets as the original trilogy combined.

Imagine if Lego released a new set with a dozen parts in the wrong color, and another dozen or two either missing or broken in the box. Then they have to go back and ship out replacement part packs to everyone who owns the set.
Now imagine this scenario happening with the bulk of new Lego sets being released every single year, and you have the current state of the gaming industry.
I'll take as many delays as it takes to get The Skywalker Saga into a well-polished state. In the meantime, the Complete Saga is still great fun with friends even a decade and a half later.
Is this game ever going to actually release?

ROFL
It's not really a fair comparison due to the wide difference in complexity, but it is a very funny comparison.
I will get it and 100% it on PC, just like I have every single other TT Lego game since the original Lego Star Wars (the only game I haven't 100% completed is Worlds). I sincerely hope they don't delay it again, but the fact that they've given a release "window" instead of a date/month doesn't fill me with hope. Also, please please PLEASE TT, make The Skywalker Saga like Lego Star Wars III or Lego Force Awakens and NOT like Lego Movie 2 The Video Game! LM2 was "OK" for a one-off Lego-Worlds-alike, but it was NOT as fun as playing Lego City: Undercover, the Lego Marvel games, or DC Supervillains.
I wish Lego would give the license to another game developer. Tt games are completely undeserving of it at this point. Multiple delays. Lack of communication. Still no solid release date. The game barley looks any different to the Force Awakens game that came out five years ago. From which they already had most of the character models. What’s the hold up? Even taking the pandemic into account, an 18 month (possibly more - who knows?) delay from the original release (Oct 2020) is ridiculous. Take it off them Lego - they don’t deserve it.

As much as I love all the games that have been put out by TT games thus farm this comment got me thinking. Many people who aren’t extremely into the LEGO franchise always complain that the games are way too same-y and although I feel that the good old formula still works with some new tweaks, having very little new innovation after all these years truly starts to show now. So I’d actually really like to see a new developer company give making LEGO games a shot, I’d love to see what new mechanics and stuff they come up with! And yes, we do absolutely need more original IP-based LEGO games. Ninjago would of course be everyone’s first pick, but older themes like Power Miners, Atlantis, Ultra Agents or even Hero Factory (not Bionicle, the ambition and motivation of current fan projects can’t possibly be outmatched by an actual company) should get some more love as well IMO. Oh well, a man can dream…

Wow, I was just checking all the planets I didn't recognise from the map, and so much of the map will be sequel themed it's honestly a tad upsetting. I was hoping I would be able to play through the prequel and OT content and ignore the sequel content, but it seems like I'll be missing out on over half the game if I choose to do so.
Those are... NOT the same voices from the films, are they? The dialogue is the same, but none of the voices sound quite like I recall; and I'm sure I've seen the (Lucas Six) movies enough times to give me a feel for their canon sound.
Am I right and the lines have been rerecorded with new actors; or am I just misremembering and these voices are lifted straight from the movies after all?
In any case, I have to confess that I've got kind of bored of the Lego game formula as of recently. It's still cool to play through new scenarios and environments, but the post-game collect-a-thon aspect has lost its shine and honestly feels like a drag to me these days. I wouldn't mind Lego games returning to the more varied and experimental nature of the late-90s / early-00s entries, even if those were a bit more hit and miss than TT's formula has been.
Still, I'll probably try this one out sometime, too, when it gets a good reduction. I have no intention of paying full price for it, though.

Yes, different voice actors. If you’re a fan of the LEGO Star Wars animations (Droid Tales, Freemaker Adventures, The Holiday Special) you may recognise the voices as they’ve hired many of the same voice actors. It’s quite cool hearing the LEGO actors reprise their roles.
So far I have loved all of the Lego games. I am a bit of a completionist so I have to get the platinum trophies. They can be a bit of a drag at the end sometimes.
As a massive Star Wars fan, I am looking forward to this immensely.
The Emperor does not share your optimistic appraisal of the situation. You’d better double your efforts, he is not as forgiving as I am.
(At least we have a release window)
That was a great surprise to be honest.
It was quite unexpected when I saw it on FB yesterday. I'm excited. It looks great!
I am irritated by the missing of Quell from TCW. It was in a screenshot but now nothing. I guess it will be part of DLC like Mando but man, they could get like 3 or 4 games out like Marvel, not just one.
As long as Blue Milk Luke still comes with it.
I for one am excited to play the game. The WHOLE game.
If and when it releases, that is.
This game looks and sounds wonderful, my only real problem with it is the presence of voice acting. Lego games lost a lot of their charm when they switched from purely visual storytelling/humor IMO.
I'm sure Last Jedi and PoS will be better in LEGO form, but I can't say I'm looking forwards to the latter in particular. The rest of the game will be awesome, though, with space exploration an exciting, new feature I look forwards to! Also, there's something very right about a character like Threepio riding a walker! LEGO Star Wars free play was always the best

"New"
If only they would ditch that horrible sequel trilogy, then this or any other SW game could & probably would be fun, perhaps even awesome. Who is interested in playing the Skywalker Saga knowing what a travesty Disney turned it into?!
How many delays do we have to deal with? Enough is enough.
I'll get this for $10 like I have with all of the other LEGO games.
And in 2024 another game, because Lego Star Wars has it's 25th Anniversary.
The trailer concerns me. This is a game made and overall approved by those clowns at Disney. Those sequel trilogy scenes look unbearably cringe, and Im worried that overall, the game will be based on that trilogy. I hope that I can simply play through the six movies alone, but knowing Disney and their Slave 1 renaming cringefest, that might not even be possible. I have high hopes for the first six levels (?) especially the Prequel Trilogy, and the game looks great, I just hope Disney hasnt managed to mangle them and I can simply ignore the sequels. Fingers crossed!

We’ll be lucky if we get THIS game before 2024, the way things are going :D
Since this has now been mentioned in several comments sections, I just want to clarify that the clickbait articles about the Slave I's name having been changed are mostly wrong. Most suggest that an alternative comic book cover confirms the name changing to 'Firespray' but nowhere on the cover is that written. That 'Firespray' title does appear in a press release for the comic series, but could easily be an error.
Disney might change the name for future appearances, perhaps because Boba Fett updates the name in-universe, but I doubt the change will be applied retroactively.

Maybe that’s why it’s taken so long? :D
It’s a shame about the sequel trilogy because I do like Kylo and Rey but... Ugh, what a disaster.
There are some good scenes in Ep 7 and 8 but 9 doesn’t have any redeeming qualities at all.
Why JJ? Why?
I bought this two years ago pre order....hurry up already
I just hope we will get sets for it as well.

DLC has already been revealed and does NOT contain any map or story expansions. They are only character packs:
Mando S1
Mando S2
Rogue One
Solo
Classic Characters
Bad Batch S1
I absolutely don’t mind waiting longer and I understand that it can take a while to get the game completely polished. But my problem is that we have no reason to actually believe them when they say spring 2022. They gave the same timetable last gamescom and didn’t come through. I just wish that I had some reason to believe that they won’t go completely silent for the next 8 months and then delay again. I definitely hope that won’t happen, and I know that TT’s doing the best it can. I’m just saying that the announcement of Spring 2022 doesn’t really mean very much until we see the state of things as we approach that time.
For those complaining about planet representation for each era, this list was absolutely expected for years. If you’ve been paying attention to the planets that had been confirmed already and the number of planets that devs have given, then you would have already basically known that planets like Felucia and Alderaan were not gonna make it. The strategy for planet selection is pretty clear too: if it gets significant screen time in one of the nine Skywalker films then it gets into the game. It’s not TT’s fault that the original trilogy used far fewer locations to tell its narrative than the sequel trilogy did. The other thing you have to keep in mind is that the planets are not used just for side missions, but will also be used to tell the main story too. So, exploring a planet like Felucia really does almost nothing to progress the RotS story. Whereas, exploring a planet like Kijimi is necessary to tell the narrative of TRoS.
Also, regardless of what your preference of films is, if you just give them all a chance in this game, you’re gonna have just as much fun with all of them. TT has proven that they can make any scene or film fun in their games. Bring on the fathier riding on Canto Bight!!
Goodness me there’s a lot of whingers/babies on here complains about the game having the sequel trilogy in it. The last movie was awful, I’ll still happily play the levels from that and explore the locations, don’t understand the mentality of those that won’t.
CaptinRex you mention the missing locations including Starkiller Base. There’s also no Death Stars on the map. Anyone know if there will be locations for them? Perhaps mobile locations for DS1&2 and SKB?

I like the voice acting, especially in the Marvel and DC games; it opens up opportunities for humor and in-jokes which don’t exist when limited to pointing and grunting.

Yes, the Death Stars are confirmed to be explorable in the game but will not be counted as planets. The devs have said that they are considering them as vehicles. As for Starkiller Base, we’re not quite sure on that one. It is confirmed to be in the game, but we don’t have confirmation of whether it will fall under planets or vehicles. Based on what we know though, I think that Starkiller Base will be the 5th unknown planet on that list and Exegol will unfortunately not make it in, but we’ll just have to see.

One of the reasons why they are re-recording the voice lines is because they will not be the exact same. It does appear that most of the lines remain the same, but there will be some new lines, mostly for comedic purposes it seems. For example, in the previous trailer when Chewie punches 3po, they give Han a line that was not in the film in order to develop the joke.
Another reason for the re-recording is because a lot of people have complained about audio quality in previous games that have taken the recordings straight from the films such as lotr or avengers. This isn’t a big deal to me, but it has been for others.

Oh, I do agree that the voice acting has it's benefits, especially in original IPs like Lego City Undercover. But I guess I just miss simpler times when all of the humor and storytelling was derived from motions and expressions, and there was no distracting voice acting mid-gameplay. Something that comes to mind is the way Darth Vader in Lego Star Wars II "tells" Luke that he is his father, by showing him cute family pictures in the middle of what's otherwise portrayed as a tense confrontation.
I've been looking forward to this game since it was supposed to come out in Fall of 2020, and I had gone as far as to submit my request at work for PTO for the week. Seeing it continuously get delayed, I've honestly lost interest in the game. I think it could be a very good game, but if I'm being honest with myself, I'll probably just play through TCS on the 360 again and wait for this game to get its price marked down - if it ever actually releases.
Pity they couldn't speed up for a Christmas release. This could be great if they have completely over-hauled the gameplay, rather than just an amalgamation of all the previous versions. I'll wait for the reviews in 6 months time to find out?

@lego4elio might be correct about that planet on the top left being Ilum and later Starkiller Base, although Exegol must be included somehow because it appears in both trailers and is absolutely integral to the story.
Information about the game has suggested that each planet can be visited during any era, so you could explore Cloud City during the Clone Wars. However, I am uncertain how that would work for Exegol, since it is supposed to remain secret. Perhaps that noticeable space towards the top of the map will be filled with Exegol or Starkiller Base, when appropriate for the story.
Then again, Starkiller Base can reportedly travel around the galaxy so could be accessible via another means like the Death Stars, as you mentioned.

I can't stand anything about the prequels, a load of utter *insert expletive here*. ;)

Back on topic, I'll believe that it's being released when it gets delivered. It'll probably be delayed again, and removed from PS4 though and my pre-order will be cancelled.

Yes, we’ll just have to see. I would have just done 25 planets and included both, that would have made more sense imo. Exegol is very integral to the story and will definitely be included in a level or two (as seen in the trailer). My concern though is that it might not be an explorable hub world because there is essentially nothing to explore outside of Palps’ little dungeon. Perhaps they could think outside the box and add some other sith temples or something
I feel like I am in the small group who preferred the games without voice acting. Sure, there are definitely LEGO games I like with the voice acting (Batman 2, Dimensions, etc.), but there was a charm with those sounds they made. Even casuals could recognize those grunts from the LEGO games, they were that memorable. (I'm talking about when Travelers Tales starting making the games. Lego Island and other games before had voice acting too)

Kijmi and Zorii Bliss could have been absent from the story and nothing would have changed. In my opinion they were the most pointless points of the sequel trilogy. That said, I am glad we are getting Kijmi in the game as it is a more unique environment. (Though it looks like Corellia with snow, Corellia isn't included)

Kamino is in a similar situation. Apart form the cities it's just stormy ocean. Exegol is stormy land. So if Kamino is included Exegol should be too.

I’m not defending Kijimi as a decision in the plot of TRoS. The fact though is that Kijimi gets considerable screen time and the main characters get the message from c3po or whatever while there. Did jj abrams need to do all that stuff on kijimi in order to tell the story? No, he could have easily had all that stuff happen on Pasaana for example. But the fact is he did do that, and TT is simply working with what they are given. Something like Felucia is different because none of the main characters go there in the main films and it can easily be omitted without losing or changing the main story. I do agree with you though that Kijimi will be interesting to explore regardless of what it represents in the story.
Kamino is different than Exegol because you would be exploring an entire city. Exegol is literally one room. I would love for them to expand on Exegol, but in terms of what they are given, it’s only one room of ground exploration. If Kamino only had Jango Fett’s room for example than it probably wouldn’t work."

This is a great point but at the same time, more time can't always fix a game. Cyberpunk 2077 took seven years to come out and it still was a broken mess, especially on PS4 and Xbox One. I'm hoping Skywalker Saga doesn't fall into the same pitfalls.
This is really a shame that I have to wait longer to bricklink the blue milk Luke.
I wonder if I could go to Bricklink and type up up down down left right left right B A start and get the minifigure now. At the very least I ought to get ten of them for the price of one.
It would be a nice bonus if the game includes some Expanded Universe content, such as Vader's Apprentice like in Lego Star Wars III. There could also be playable versions of the other Legends characters that have appeared in official sets, such as 2003 Ventress, Juno Eclipse, Shadow Guards and Troopers, Darth Malgus, Revan, Satele Shan, Kao Cen Darach, or Darth Marr.
The best part is that The Old Republic is basically optional canon, Revan is confirmed to exist in canon, and Starkiller will probably join canon at some point (he almost did already).
The amount of sequel content in that trailer is worrying, especially the emphasis on stuff from The Last Jedi (idk where they get off on calling that a “Star Wars” movie when it doesn’t even have a lightsaber duel). Surely they know by now that the fans don’t want any of that garbage. Hopefully most of the planets on the map being from the sequels is only because they made so many new locations for those movies instead of being indicative of game content. I was already prepared to write off a whole third of the game but if I log into it and Disney has sold me even more sequel garbage there’s going to be hell to pay.
The Last Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie (followed by Rogue One). People don't seem to understand that unanimous agreement among fans is both unnecessary and impossible. Different Snokes for different folks. ;)

I don’t like the sequels but Rogue One didn’t have a Lightsaber *duel* either (just the Vader scene) and people still loved that movie. I guess Last Jedi was strange for a main series entry, I feel like Rian Johnson’s directing skills would’ve been better suited for a spin-off or Disney+ show, though. In any case, I understand hating the sequel trilogy but despising it enough to avoid an entire chunk of a game seems a little extreme, plenty of people loathed The Phantom Menace if not the entire prequel trilogy and yet I’m sure everyone who played the game more than once played through related content in The Complete Saga, even though only Negotiations was required. Even if the plot and humor of the Sequel Trilogy kind of sucked (and this might extend to the game’s adaptation of it), the gameplay of the related levels could be great, and that’s what matters more IMO.

"If only they would ditch that horrible sequel trilogy, then this or any other SW game could & probably would be fun, perhaps even awesome. Who is interested in playing the Skywalker Saga knowing what a travesty Disney turned it into?! "
Children. You know, the game’s target audience.
On the one hand we all know the old saying. "A delayed game will eventually be good, but a rushed game will always be bad." On the other hand pre-orders for this started a year ago which is already an insane delay from TT's normal fair.
I know that this will never happen, but I've still got my fingers crossed LEGO will apply this formula to their original IPs someday. They tried it out with some DS handheld Ninjago games, but we've yet to get anything *proper.* I'd love to play as Nuparu and assemble the Boxor, or take Kai and Flame to the sky over Ninjago, or hold down a fort against giant bugs with the Galaxy Squad. With things like Lego Worlds and Lego Legacy it seems their dipping their toes into the old IP market for gaming, let's just hope something big'll come out of it eventually.
