Review: 40494 Polar Bear & Gift Pack

Posted by ,

LEGO has been producing ornaments to hang on Christmas trees of one sort or another for some years and the latest offering, 40494 Polar Bear & Gift Pack, which is due for release on October 1st, follows the style of last year's 854050 Snowman & Reindeer Duo.

The decorations are based around a 4x4 cube, the same size to last year's pair, so they should look good hanging together.

Last year's pair were almost totally reliant on stickers to make them recognisable, but that's not the case here. The gift-wrapped present uses some to add an attractive pattern to the wrapping and writing on the label, but it's clearly a present with or without them.

The polar bear's eyes are printed. The stand is not included, but string is, to allow them to be hung from your tree. This year it's black rather than the gold used in the snowman and reindeer set.

There's not much more to say about them, really. They are hardly an essential purchase but if you have last year's you may wish to add these to your collection.

They'll be available at LEGO.com from October 1st, priced at £8.99 / $9.99.

Thanks to LEGO for providing them for review and to Alice and my wife for building them. All options expressed are my own.

Thank goodness that stand is not included! I thought LEGO skewered a polar bear head...

Oh, didn’t see that. It’s still a nice set though

An improvement on last years, but not a lot!

I see the Christmas Wreath is the thumbnail for the Christmas section of lego.com... I wonder if that means it's making a return, or if they're just winding us up!

Ok, if the green was taken off of the sweater it would look like a decapitated polar bear with blood dripping off of its severed head.

Definitely the latter.

Probably right... I did get 1 (in January!), but wouldn't mind a 2nd.

You're going to have to go 35 years back in time to find some more unfortunately...

@Cooliocdawg

It's funny how much of an effect a single 1x1 tile can have.

It's been available on the Australian website for well over a month.

Good to know... obviously not in short supply if it's been available for a while.

What's the green piece supposed to be in the dripping bear blood? Nice Halloween GWP! :D

I know the stand is for display purposes but that bear's head feels like it is channeling "Winter is coming" especially with that hint of blue in its eyes...
