Well, they sure got the “mini” part down pat

So is it mini scale? Is it a model? Is he a giant? Or is the base literally just a chair?

Shogun armor designed in 1998, still was used in 2020 on the statue in 71721 : Skull Sorcerer's Dragon , main difference is new darkgrey vs old darkgrey.

By in Australia,

Is this just the pieces required to make a bed or a seat, for the little Shogun? That seems odd, but, okay.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Base of what exactly?

Awesome figure though.

By in Netherlands,

If this were minecraft, it'd be a base alright, a bed skips the night.

I forgot that log piece went back so far. Now that I think about it, they probably started with the Western sets like fort Legorado.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I built snowforts bigger’n’dis back in the day. Without flames, though.

Wait — how does that flag not catch fire? Is it emchanted?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is it a ninja toilet? Is it a chair? Is it a bed? And why is it on fire?

Whatever the answers are, I give the set a B+ grade. The ninja is nice and the flag is cute.

I know right, it’s like those 1950s interlocking bricks are still used too.

All your base are belong to...um...you know what? Never mind. You keep it. You need it more than we do.

Don’t ninja inherently conflict with shogun, though? To my knowledge Shinobi were impoverished farmers and villagers who used farming equipment to try to kill noble figures, which would include shoguns. So how can a ninja shogun exist, wouldn’t that be contradictory?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Maybe he ordered the base from the Australian government which would explain why it is so disappointing.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I think its supposed to say BED instead of BASE. At least thats what I get from the picture.

By in Turkey,

I remember thinking great figures but not so great buildings...

Probably in the same way that Zorro is actually one of the ruling elite, it's the perfect disguise :)

How mini does something have to be to not be considered a base anymore? Because I’m pretty sure this stretches the definition. Was it a castle to begin with and it got smashed?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If he stuck a couple of slices of bread on the horns of his helmet he could toast them on the flames while he slept, and then when he wakes up he would have a perfect breakfast ready, a good start for a hard day's shogunning

By in Netherlands,

Nice fig, flag and some log pieces.
The build is a mockery but for army building it would have been nice.
Sadly only "Packaged with Kabaya sweets in Japan." so now it's expensive.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

You'd never get a Mini in that base. Maybe a Smartcar though...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

It's a CTF/point-defense base. And it's home! =)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

That figure is gorgeous, one of the best of its time.
That mini base... an interesting use of the budget. Not a cart or catapult at least!
I guess it might be a scale model from an architect who is showing him what his fortress is going to look like. Or maybe one on top of a large map for military planning.

Or a bed/chair. Whatever you want I guess...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Given the excitement over the log pieces and an inflammable flag, I guess this is a good parts/minifigure/micro scale architecture set.

10/10

I think by 'base', they maybe mean more along the line of 'display stand'. Like with Hasbro's Star Wars action figures, for example; several of them came with decorative stands that I've always referred to as 'figure bases'. In that sense, of being a stand or base on which to display the minifigure, this certainly meets the criteria.

Then again... I thought it might be another 'lost in translation' name, like the Kabaya sets sometimes have. But Bricklink calls this set the Ninja Shogun's "Small Fort", so I guess maybe not. That's a VERY small fort indeed.

Also: classic ninja, Classic Ninja, CLASSIC NINJA! :D Even if it's a pretty weak set, this theme still makes me happy!

This is the second-year's Shogun - as opposed to the benevolent https://brickset.com/minifigs/cas056 of the first year - who, according to material from Lego Mania Magazine that someone shared previously, was actually an evil emperor who established himself over the Ninja kingdom. There was some lore as to which Ninja faction was allied with who - grey ninjas worked for the blue Shogun, black ninjas were amoral robbers, red ninjas opposed the evil emperor and were led by the sole white ninja who *may or may not* have been a princess - but a lot of it beyond that was left up to speculation... of which I have plenty, but I think I mentioned that on past posts already!

@ThatBionicleGuy:
I was thinking the same thing about “base” meaning “thing that keeps something from falling over”, and in that regard it’s actually quite large. The only two minifig stands they’ve produced are a slightly odd shaped 2x4, and a 3x4. This is 4x4 with quite a bit of added ballast.
