Review: Super Heroes Unite on Blu-Ray
Posted by Huw,
My copy of the Batman: DC Super Heroes Unite on Blu-Ray/DVD arrived from the US via the Amazon.co.uk marketplace yesterday.
I can confirm that the Blu-Ray disc is not region coded and played just fine on my UK player. I didn't try the DVD.
The movie is about 70 minutes long and I'd like to tell you that I enjoyed it but to be honest I found it a bit boring and only watched the first 20 minutes of it last night. There's no doubt it looks stunning but it's nowhere near as entertaining as the Star Wars ones, particularly the Padawan Menace.
The main reason for buying it, of course, is for this minifig, Clark Kent in a transitional state, which as you can see looks great. Clark is sporting the same hairstyle as Robin and a number of other recent minifigs. The head printing isn't the best I've seen but looks fine from a short distance.
It's a figure every Super Heroes collector will want and thankfully it's not too hard to get hold of it. The comments on this news article suggest it's available in quite a few places but, alas, not in UK shops...

I love that minifig but I can't pay that price for it I hate exclusive minifigures..
If £16.50 is too much, it can be ordered (DVD version) direct from Amazon.com for about £12 including shipping. Not a huge saving but about 25% less. Standard shipping takes about two weeks for amazon in my experience.
If that's still too much, get two, sell 1 and it will pay for the shipping too. It is a very nice fig.
Picked this up today. Didn't realise until I opened it that the torso printing bleeds a bit around the tie on mine.
I don't believe it! Australia is getting it and the UK aren't? that's a change... hope my local gets it in tomorrow they didn't have it to day. Don't feel like going there Thursday in the Toy Sale RUSH.
For people in the US, order it from amazon. In the stores it is around $15-$17, but on amazon it is like $11 if I am not mistaken.
That looks like a great minifigure. I was thinking of getting this film to watch, as I am a sucker for good animation.
Glad I made the right decision about not bothering with the film then. Luckily the seller on Bricklink I was placing an order with had them.
At least some exclusive figures aren't too hard to get hold of!
Looks like a great minifig. Though I was wondering, is the movie the same as all the videos and levels combined in the Batman 2 video game?
^ Unlikely
Several people had said it's just cut-scenes from the game but after watching it i agree with Huw, it's too smoothly done to be that, though they may have used the same bits for the narrative in the game. It's not bad overall and has some decent twists and tons of lego fun. I made it through it all on the 3rd try (just tired) and am glad I did. There's also several other DC cartoons on the DVD, so it's not a bad buy at all. I preordered the Blu-Ray, then cancelled it and ordered the DVD instead from Amazon. Before it shipped it went from $15 to $10 or so and they refunded me the $5 difference which is great service. It's a sweet figure, and goes great with the rest of the DC superheroes plus you can actually get your hands on it. It would be a horrible army builder (i'm looking at you CMF book Toy Soldier!) but for $10 I don't feel any buyer's remorse.
I can confirm the DVD version is region coded.
As an American I have to wonder why so many Lego products are unavailable in the UK without jumping through so many hoops. Why is Lego treating the British blokes across the pond so badly?
@ Huw, thanks. I wondered because the cover of the movie has the same superheroes as the ones that were in the game.
Just picked up a couple copies of the DVD at a Bilka store here in Denmark, it's region 2 and has English, Danish, Swedish, Norweigian and Finnish as the audio optiosn. With the exchange rate it works out around £11.50 each. Back home to the UK tomorrow with a few BR figures and two Clark Kent's, all in all a pretty sucessful trip.
The DVD and Minifigure is available in Germany! €9.99
^^ Well done!
I just watched the blu ray. I initially bought it for the figure but I enjoyed the movie very much. I was quite surprised by the quality of the animations and voices. If you're a super heroes fan you won't regret picking up a copy.
Ordered mine from the US. It could be forever before it's stocked here, if at all :(
Can someone kindly advise or confirm which subtitle languages does this Blu-ray/DVD come with?
Subtitles: English, French and Spanish.
That tie looks ridiculously small.
Cool figure. I might use an emery board to scratch off some of the face marks, as the head looks a bit strange. I hope it comes out over here soon!
Having thoroughly watched the movie and poking around for some info, I can confirm it's NOT just all the cut-scenes of the game combined. The parts which are levels are shortened and animated, and thus it follows the basic plot line of the game, but with some parts cut off, such as the reduction of Captain Boomerang's role from being a minor boss to a cameo appearance as combating The Flash.
@ endolimax, thanks a lot! :)
I got the Blu-ray w/minifig for $9.99 on release week. An excellent value.
