Following their extraordinary popularity during 2021 and their promised return, LEGO has today announced renewed availability of the VIP coins!

LEGO VIP collectible coins are back!

We’re making our LEGO VIP collectible coins and coin holder available again on January 11, 2022 in our VIP Rewards Centre. Each coin (as well as the coin holder) is only available to VIP members who didn’t get any coins or weren’t able to complete their set last year. We expect supplies to run out quickly. If demand is lower than we expect, we may open the promotion up so VIP members can get a second coin. Keep an eye on the VIP Rewards Centre for the latest updates.

The coins on offer to VIP members will be:

They’ll be available at the following times:

  • In Australia and New Zealand: midnight Sydney time
  • In Japan: midnight local time
  • In Korea: midnight local time
  • Europe: 11am CET/10am GMT
  • United States and Canada: 9am EST

Hopefully the availability on this occasion will be better than it was the first time.

Are you hoping to add any of these coins to your collection? Let us know in the comments.

Does anyone have the link to the original article? It would be great to know the price of them!

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

How much will a coin cost?
What about those who spent all their VIP points?

Gravatar
By in Poland,

The original cost was 1150 VIP points, 5750 for the full collection.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Do you have to order them seperately or can you just order them all at once?

Gravatar
By in United States,

so does this mean that a person will have to make 5 separate purchases when they become available in order to get the set? after all, they are each a separate code and only one code can be redeemed per sale. and you have to make a purchase to redeem a code.

By in United States,

Now, if only there were actual sets in stock. Only things in stock are the resent releases and barely that.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have zero confidence that this will go without issues. But I will be happy to be proved wrong, for anyone looking to get any of them. I have my Space coin so I'm finished already...

They're fine for what they are...
i.e. Somewhat overpriced gift shop souvenirs.
But those expecting Royal Mint proof quality coins were obviously a bit disappointed!

Ooh weee, when is the collectible vip blanket returning? /end of sarcasm.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I guess there are some people who collect anything related to lego....

Give me plastic bricks that join together to build lots of different things.... :)

I have no interest in coins. Otherwise I would collect coins.

Good luck to those of you who want to complete your coin collections.

Hey, with two GWPs going, now's a good time to rack more up anyway

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Ok, so they've proven they haven't forgotten the classic themes like Pirates, Space, Race and Castle.
Now, how about we get actual sets from these themes?

1890, 6602-2 Race as in Racing.

By in United States,

I did manage to get a complete set, including the case, and knew I’d probably be locked out of this round. Even so, I’ve been waiting for these to show up, because they promised they would rerelease them before the end of last year, and the ridiculous secondary prices make it more likely that I’ll miss out on something else that I want later on.

Except they are worth together about $175 USD on Bricklink. Which means you can actually turn a $125 profit if you sell them (that said, I know they won't sell for that much after tomorrow) and use that money to buy even more bricks than if you had just kept your VIP points...

No interest in the coins personally, but happy to see LEGO take steps to to make their fans happy. The temporary limit is a nice touch, too. Hope everyone who wants a set gets one!

By the time they arrive and you try to sell them on BL, that $175 will probably be closer to $75."

1150 VIP points

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Yellow:
They announced over half a year ago that this was going to happen. Anyone who burned off their points during that time can’t say it’s unfair.

@the_fuzzy_one:
Why the animosity? They’re not holding a gun to your head and making you spend points on these. They don’t automatically deduct your points and send you one of these instead. Many people who buy through LEGO Brand Retail don’t even have VIP accounts, so their potential points vanish into the ether. And if I choose to let my points expire without being spent, is that going to kill your puppy? My points, my choice on how to spend them.

Gravatar
By in Slovenia,

thats correct :D

Gravatar

still better than using points on money off coupon :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

As this re-release of the coins is only available to those who didn't get them initially, it will only make sense for the original VIP offers to return as-is, i.e. each coin is listed separately with a limit of 1 each.

Lego really missed an opportunity to make these coins 2x2 round tiles, but cast in metal. THAT I would collect!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I feel like this is the wrong play--I was disappointed to not get the Space coin due to technical issues I won't go into here. But I've long been over that and moved on. Now that they're re-releasing, everyone who -did- have one just had its value drop. Not only are they hurting the people who actually got one, but the only people who benefit may very well have moved on. Might have been better to leave these in the past and allow the coins to retain some value and uniqueness. Still, if they said they'd make more, I'm glad they stuck to what they said.

Things that cost only VIP points are overpriced now? Wow.

Same here. I got the other four coins plus the 5-coin case the first time around, and then missed out on the very last item to finish the set. I’m very glad to finally have another opportunity (and I was beginning to wonder whether I’d missed the second chance already!). I’m also gratified they’re apparently limiting each of these to folks who didn’t get them the first time, at least to start with.

Felt this was too... but now that I look at them, I might grab that logo coin. It just makes perfect sense as the 'real life' version of the classic lego coins!

This is the biggest single thing that turned me off these things. Have to make 6 $35 orders (or pay shipping) to get all the coins.

If they put the effort into a re-release, they should have a single code that gets you all the coins + the case, plus separate codes for those that missed one coin.

Lego doesn’t release these, or anything, for their after market value. They benefit none whatsoever if someone turns around and sells them. So their “value” is of absolutely no concern to them, and never will be. Once Lego gets your money, or in this case points, what happens to the product after is out of their hands and doesn’t affect them. So rereleasing these is actually a great move, as people then may spend more with them to be able to get these coins, as they were pretty popular the first time.

People don't understand the monetary value of VIP points now?
Wow.

The coins cost the equivalent £7.19 each in VIP points which I do think is somewhat overpriced, compared to using the points for discounts. However, I like them, which is why l got all five.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I missed out originally and while I wasn't that torn up about it, now having a second chance I have to debate if I want to go through with them.

I may try just for the logo coin, since that does resemble the old coins from my youth. I guess we will see. Tomorrow when it drops I will have other things going on with my daughter's school, so if they sell out quickly again, then I guess it isn't my problem anymore.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well I suppose this will make it a bit easier on the wallet when I inevitably buy these off the secondary market, since I am fresh out of VIP points.

Gravatar
By in France,

I already own the only coins I like, that is say the Space one, the Castle one and the Lego logo one. Not interested in the Pirate one and even less the Octan one (which is not a very ecological symbol...)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll have my popcorn ready for the inevitable disaster that will transpire tomorrow...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m in the middle regarding interest in the coins. I’m curious about them but won’t be disappointed if they are sold out.

I do like the middle coin because as I kid I loved the sets with a chest full of gold coins. I’ll check tomorrow and see how it’s “going” with the website.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just want them to make the Ulysses Space Probe available again thats what I really want.

-My opinion on the coins: I spend money on LEGO.com and get points anyway, might as well get something out of it. But I really want that space probe.

"How does re-releasing them hurt anyone? If someone got them first time around they still have them. They will just be more common now. Are they less interesting or worth collecting because they are more common? If so, people are probably collecting for the wrong reasons. Value only matters if you are selling, and I doubt LEGO would ever publicly say they want to ensure people selling VIP rewards don't lose out on their financial investments."

Who are you to say they're "collecting for the wrong reasons?" There is some of both. I'm not saying their only worth is in their rarity, but for some, rarity is a part of why they collect what they collect. There's a difference between owning a reprint of a famous work of art and owning the original. Kinda surprised I have to explain that here of all places.

Anyway, I'm glad for those who will get these since they missed out the first time. But I also kinda get those who'll be annoyed that they spent their points and went to the trouble to get something rare and unique only to have another run made.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m wondering if this isn’t a prelude / test/ trial run of the new subscription service that offers “retired products” tested-marketed in that recent survey?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was lucky enough to acquire the Space coin last year. For this LEGO fan, my collection is complete!

Good luck to those who will be attempting to complete their set of coins tomorrow!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Unfortunately the vast majority of my Lego budget continues to go to sources which don't accrue rewards points, lol.

Can't expect Lego to reward me for spending most of my money on vintage sets on eBay/Bricklink...

Gravatar
By in United States,

My son wanted to get the ones he missed last time around.
Who cares why someone wants them. What is a waste or pointless to some is not the same for everyone.
As far as what they will actually sell for, if you hold onto them for a few years and then sell them they will more than likely be worth it. At least for us.
As far as people complaining about everything Lego does, or calling out others as fanboys if they don't have the same views. It's all pretty silly.
I know for my son and I of course there are things we wish Lego would do better, but when I look at the times over the last almost 2 decades I have shared with my son collecting/building/selling Lego sets I am more than satisfied overall. Especially considering we have never sold any sets, (including used ones), for less than we paid for them. And in most cases for well above what we originally paid for them.
And seeing many of the sets coming out now, I am very excited to see what the future of Lego will introduce to my son and I. And hopefully, (knock on wood), I will be around long enough to share this with a few dozen or so grandchildren as well.
I actually buy some sets with that in mind.
My son always gives me dirty looks when I show him my latest acquisition for his future children.
Happy building to everyone, and just keep doing what your doing if its what gets you going. And just ignore those who can't just be happy for you.
Cheers.

6 orders of $35 would be OK by me.
In Australia free shipping is only included at $150.
So your 6 x $35 US is roughly $300 Australian worth of purchases to get all delivered for free whereas my 6 x $150 AU would be roughly $650 US to get delivered for free.

The VIP system should allow for stacking VIP "purchased" items onto 1 order, because when they have the "pick your GWP" promos you can either get the GWP set or the VIP purchased item unless you call the customer service line and they override it, but they won't override the VIP item rule.
Not a bad deal really.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So, instead of replacing (or apologizing for) the defective ones that were sold last year, they're just going to sell more of the same to fans who haven't yet personally seen how bad they are?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Still very uninterested the second time around

Gravatar
By in United States,

@ra226:
I completed the full set with points last year, and you know what I say to that? Damn the resale value! I bought them for the novelty, not to get rich. I had to use vacation days to secure codes for Ulysses and Coin 5 because they panicked and shifted their releases from midnight on the first of the month to weekday mornings, and I’m still a bit peeved about that.

The first two coins were only selling for about twice what they cost in points, and it wasn’t until non-collectors realized they could turn a small profit that there was a run on codes that resulted in 3-figure prices on individual coins and people being shut out of complete sets.

This fix was supposed to happen before the end of the year. It’s late (not by a lot, so it can probably be chalked up to pandemic supply chain issues), but at least they made good on their promise.

As for me, if these last long enough that they remove the Limit 1 restriction, I wouldn’t mind picking up a few more. I had ideas for MOCs I could build with all five, but there’s no way I would do that with my only set, especially with resale prices for the full set being close to four figures.

Yep. If there's one thing I can almost assuredly count on - it's LEGO's IT infrastructure being woefully unable and ill-suited to handle increased traffic, the most recent example being the debacle that was the release of the Lunar New Year sets last night.

Gravatar

Same here, it just showed up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@1265:
Last year they were selling between $150-200 per coin right before the reissue was announced. Add in the long case, and someone who decided to collect everything after the dust had already cleared could very well have dropped four figures to get a full set. My comment was based on the prices at that time, since that was when I started thinking of possible ways to use these in MOCs, and the exorbitant prices _at_that_time_ kept me from even trying to buy more coins.

I haven’t been monitoring prices, since I’d prefer to pick up any extras on points, but I did figure the announcement alone would have knocked the prices down quite a bit, as would disillusioned collectors who decided to just dump the ones they’d acquired rather than keep going for the full set.

Gravatar

It's still a limited run. You just have to wait a few years for the value to go up, instead of scalping them for $200 the next day. The rest of us are happy to be able to get them at a normal price.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Can anyone state how you must order them?
I collected them from the vip platform, but do I need to make a seperate order per coin together with another lego product to get them all shipped? (since checkout seems to only allow 1 vip code per order)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Jito:
You get one code for each item (5 coins, one long case, for a total of six possible codes). Codes for physical VIP Rewards are, unfortunately limited to one per order. If you accidentally forget to apply one, they can help you out over the phone sometimes, but they are not capable of breaking the “one per” rule. I’ve seen people suggest adding one at checkout and calling to get a second added by phone. Tried it. Didn’t work.

Gravatar

Hmm, do you have any idea who is the Owner of BrickLink....collecting fees from nice sales?
