Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1424 Stunt Go-Kart, released during 2001. It's one of 46 Studios sets produced that year. It contains 25 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 59 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

VROOOM!!!
That trans-yellow visor was actually still kind of new and rare in 2001...
Also it's funny that 3 out of 4 of these Studios Impulse/Kabaya sets reused Rock Raiders heads, this one uses Sparks'.

Only 59 Brickset users own this? I think that’s some kind of record for RSotD.

Not even close, you should see the Clikits, Belleville, and Scala numbers. Plenty down in the 20s and below.

Slick tires, man.
Great. Another standard vintage Town land-yacht.

I want to point out that the people My Dad has words with tend to disappear in mysterious circumstances.
Just practicing his Mario Kart in time for the DLC.

Thanks, man!
I read the first few comments. Those were the times!
Yeah, the figure will work, the rest is spare parts...
The Clutch and the Furious
The Spoonerism here is probably more amusing than actually building the set.

Maybe the Rock Raiders crew, after gathering the crystals and returning safely back to Earth, decided to work in the film industry?

I own the boxed version of this. So that number isn't entirely accurate?

This is a special release exclusive to Japan, being packaged with Kabaya sweets.
Whether all 59 users know that and actually have the japanese version (with the set being identical except for the box and place it is bought) is a mystery

It's something they carry over from the Studios line as a whole; Sparks was the stuntman and Docs was the cameraman in practically all the first-year sets and some of the later ones. Plus, Pippin Reed and Johnny Thunder put in appearances, the studio assistant and grip were the Space Port astronauts, and a few other familiar faces like Captain Redbeard, one of the Ninja robbers, and Mike from Dino Island showed up in polybags as actors.
I guess it makes sense; the Studios minifigures more often than not didn't need to represent any specific characters as much as just the general roles, so it saved them having to design an entirely new batch of faces - it was only the subsequent year's horror subtheme that started generating entirely new designs for the actors. Makes it fun to come up with in-universe explanations for how these characters ended up giving up space exploration and such in favour of the movie business, though!
Goes well with 4075 Tree 2!

You forgot the director (who was hinted to be Steven Spielberg himself). The face was originally the scientist from Space Port (1999).

That guy's name would be Felix Combo. His face was still active in City sets up to like 2010 something (also the only face from the late '90s available in LDD), although his beard switched from old gray to bluish gray of cause^^
The game LEGO Island X-Treme Stunts (which is technically LEGO Island 3) gave names to most Studios characters:
Director - Block Buster
Assistant - Belinda Blank
Camera Man - Phil Maker
Grip - Liam Lense
Actress - Penelope Puff
Stuntman - Lucky Larry
Also in the manual of 1349 , the actress with the red jacket and Pippin Reed's face was called 'Vanessa Redstone'.
