Ghostbusters 30th anniversary set rapidly approaching 10k
Posted by glenbricker,
The Cuusoo project Ghostbusters 30 Year Anniversary set is only 150 support away from 10k.
With Back to the Future having made it into production, many see Ghostbusters as a shoe in as well. Ghostbusters in also one of the rare intellectual properties that has received a Staff Pick on Cuusoo. Not just one pick even, but a whole week of picks!
On top of that, is it just me or is there at least one Ecto-1 at every LEGO Con if not the entire station? It is obviously a favored subject of FOLs.
Update: unsurprisingly, overnight the project reached 10,000!
The 30 Year Anniversary project is the creation of BrentWaller, the creator of the Tumbler Project that also reached 10,000. This will make him the second Cuusoo creator to so, after MB Bricks. Before a barrage of comments about how unlikely it is that Cuusoo will make a set big enough to include the Station, I wish to add that BrentWaller himself has stated in the project comments that he does not think that it will be included in a final product.
As many of you know, this project shot up and surpassed a much earlier Ghostbusters project submitted by TeeKey. The real difference between the projects (given that the station is out of the question) is that Teekay has an Ecto-1 apparently scaled to hold the whole team and their equipment and a custom Slimer element, while BrentWaller has a more attractive but less roomy Ecto-1, Slimer based Rotta figure, and custom head piece for Peter.
Personally I was hoping that both projects would reach 10,000 in the same review period so we could see what LEGO Cuusoo would do with the situation. But then BrentWaller's really started picking up speed and it is very unlikely that TeeKay's project will reach 10,000 by the end of the month.
It is interesting to point out that the majority of votes for each project are not coming from the single users voting for both but from users voting for each singularly. My opinion is that in most cases this is less of a case of opinion and more one of timing, followed links, and the propensity for people to not investigate Cuusoo once they have voted. There are actually seven Ghostbuster minifigs with Ecto-1 projects on Cuusoo. So in many ways the Ghostbuster's have achieved well more than 10,000 votes already, a fact I imagine would be hard for the Cuusoo Review to overlook.
I am happy to see that TeeKay and BrentWaller have been very honorable in the comments regarding their situation. Here is an exchange between them on the site:
TeeKay
Congrats on surpassing my Ghostbusters project! You've earned it. Just between you and me, your models always did look better. Although I doubt build quality would drastically affect the final product, since a LEGO designer will rework your set, build quality definitely helped you get exposure and take the lead. Best of luck on your way to 10,000! At the end of the day, I just want to have my hands on a LEGO ECTO-1!
BrentWaller
Thanks TeeKay, It's not over yet though! At this rate we BOTH might be in the same review, I daresay if that was the case LEGO would probably just consolidate our submissions into one so everybody wins :)
Having both our creations so high also shows how badly the community wants to see a Ghostbuster set become a reality.

I'd love to get my hands on this set, fits nicely with the a modular themed lego city.
Unfortunately it will be a big investment for TLG seeing as it's quite large in size.
I can see Lego just doing the car and 4 figures... A definite must buy... But how long will it be until this gets reviewed..? 2015..?
^ I hope to God that's not the case.
I actually meant not seeing a set until 2015...
Does anyone know what review cycle is coming up..?
The Winter 2012 Review is the next in line to be revealed.
The winter 2012...?
Around when will that be..? Winter 2013..? Or a bit sooner..?
I love the choice of minifig heads/facial expressions. Pretty spot on except winslow.
It just hit 10,000.
So happy this one made it... I expect this to easily pass the review as long as licensing isn't an issue...
I was the 10,000th. :)
WOOHOO!!
The car and the four minifigs is all I want.
This should be fast tracked to be released next June as that's when the 30 year anniversary is. What better way for TLG to make a bundle off of it.
This would be a dream come true if they made this, i LOVE the movies and this would just be the cherry on the top of an ball of ice cream (YEAH METAPHORS, is this i metaphor... i think it is... well ima be honest with you, i build, i dont write poetry.)
I support this 100%.
The mini fig potential for ghosts are endless.
I hope that the Delorian has set a precedent for future film tie-ins such as this. I do think a sticking point could be that with the BTTF set the profits from the designer went to Michael J Fox's foundation which I am sure helped the rights issue get through easier. I doubt there would be such a boost for the Ghost Busters, also Bill Murray is a known difficult human, I would not be surprised that rights issues to his likeness could become a problem (they were with the cartoon they made in the 90's)
I think Lego should take some initiative and do a 80s movie nostalgia series. There are plenty of cool characters and vehicles they could be doing off their own bat.
Brilliant news, fingers crossed it will be successful when it is reviewed.
It has now reached 10,000! And the tumberler is only a few clicks away! UPDATE: The tumberler has reached 10,000 to!!
Bill Murray will singlehandedly torpedo this. Bet on it.
@CCC interestingly none of the properties you mention have much iconic set potential. Ie, everything in ET happens in a boring suburban house. The set would be ET, the annoying kid, a bike and a glow in the dark sticker of the moon. Wow. Goonies has an abandoned restaurant and generic caves. Roger Rabbit has some potential. "I'm not bad, I'm just molded in ABS that way."
^^ What on Earth is a tumberler?
Anyway, only three projects reached 10k in the last two months, and that's Ghostbusters, FTL, and ATLAS. No tumberler.
Well, this is certainly a set I would spend 100€ on. Not so much on a Tumbler (been there, done it), the ATLAS (what a piece of junk), FTL (boring) or Poptropica (what is this?). As was mentioned, there is rarely an AFOL who didn't try to make one or a brick convention where none is present. It was one of the most popular movies in the 80s and one of the most popular toy lines (based on media). It is up there with Star Wars, Turtles, Simpsons and Transformers and those were all made into bricks. Why not this one?
I'd really like to see TeeKay's project march on to 10k as well. It's only some 2k away now, BrentWaller's project got that much in one week. The deadline is more than two weeks away. As Glen says, having them both in the same review would be pretty interesting for a number of reasons.
@Schwallex,
He meant to say Tumbler. It is Batman's primary vehicle from the new trilogy of movies. BrentWeller got his version to 10k. If you check his project links:http://lego.cuusoo.com/profile/BrentWallerprojects you can see it as well as his other great mocs.
Cant say how many times I pretended my lego guys were Ghostbusters... this would be awesome!
I suppported both, yay.
I don't think Bill Murray has any say in this being made or not, Columbia Pictures owns the franchise rights to it including the characters and their likeness.
I know Brent Waller has stated that his station may not be included in any Cuusoo set, but I would really like to see this, as I'm currently trying to build my own American Fire Station/house based on this one and its taking me an eternity to build.
I guess my project was one of the rare Staff Picks with intellectual property rights :) (Howl's Moving Castle) I feel even more honored. Can't wait for the Ecto-1!
I love it
@Speshy: Oh man, why's nobody supporting Howl's Moving Castle? Or Totoro, for that matter...
@Glen: yeah I'm obviously aware of the Tumbler (or should I say, the many Tumblers), but it reached 10k three months ago, while the comment here made it sound like breaking news. Misspelling it twice in the process.
Never watched this "show" in my life. Not saying it wouldn't make a good set though.
Could be good defo purchase for me hopefully this won't be messed about too much by the TLG designers for final release. The delorean was a mixed bag in the end with a much improved rear when compared to the original submission and the far worse stepped front and widscreen.
"Anybody seen a ghost?" Sign me up for a copy if this is ever produced!
Will LEGO actually produce this set? "We're Ready To Believe You"
What are the dire consequences if LEGO does not unleash this set onto a grateful population of AFOL's? "Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!"
@Schwallex: I don't know, but feel free to help out! I already posted on several fan sites, but so far not much is churning.
Does the 30th anniversary set's ghost look farmiliar? (It seems to be the piece used for Jabba's son in Lego Star Wars.)
