You know what we haven't seen in a long time, Blue Batman. The Batman is great, I greatly enjoyed that movie, but man, we kind of had at least one thing good with Batfleck with him having the Gray body after 20 years of Batman just being drenched in black, let's get another rendition of the Gray and Blue back on the silver screen.

Oh my word!!! This is one of my first superhero sets!!! So much nostalgia!!!

By in United States,

I got two copies (one to build, one to part out) of the first Catwoman set, before I realized how useful the torso is, and of course the minifigs were selling for more than the set’s MSRP. So when this one came out, I picked up at least a dozen copies. It’s got Batman. It’s got purple. What more could you want?

By in United States,

I love this set, the 2012 wave for DC was great!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I think my brother and I were both keen on this set, but never got it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was never fond of most DC sets, but I'm happy with the new direction of said theme.

@PurpleDave I hope you own 70902, which has the same name as this set except the added word, and two fantastic purple minfigs.

I would love to see a blue and grey look for the The Batman sequel! With his heroic turn at the end of the film, a brighter more heroic look could fit nicely!

Might be a bit too far of a jump for the visual aesthetic of The Batman, but perhaps there could be a story purpose. It's definitely a world that while very grounded in reality feels like anything could happen, too. Matt Reeves is interested in the character of Mr. Freeze, and Robert Pattinson has said that if they ever do Robin, he wants that kid to be 13 years old, so they're willing to make things both grounded and yet respectful of the source material. Even if it's something more incidental like paint spills on him and he gets an arctic blast to the chest, kind of like how a version of Deadpool's suit is mimicked in his second movie with ash, or how Electro's classic mask forms around Jamie Foxx's face when using his powrs in No Way Home, even Penguin's waddle in The Batman, just a simple nod is all it takes sometimes.

Finally DC joins RSOTD. I wonder when Marvel will follow suit?

By in United States,

I love that these Batman sets are from the older DC LEGO game. Certain ones are from certain levels.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had this one as a kid. Crazy how nostalgic I feel over such as simple set, but I suppose that's the beauty of LEGO

Gravatar
By in Canada,

What strikes me most about this set is the simple yet effective light standard.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I knew when I first saw it in the store that I had to have it. One of my fave smaller DC sets I own. Clever build for the traffic light for sure. Love the grey blue Batman and those wings! Catwoman’s torso is great and like the bike, too.

What new direction? We’ve barely gotten any new sets since 2020 and they were more of the same, just Batman stuff aside from the Minifigure series.
@LuvsLEGO_Cool_J “Catwoman’s torso is great” sus :P :P :P

One of my first-ever LEGO sets. I wish LEGO would go back to making more of these near-$10 packs with exclusive minifigs, it’s obvious just from this site that it’s one of the most-bought DC sets.

@Mr__Thrawn COMCON036-1 Zur-En-Arrh Batman has the cowl and cape, and the Batzarro minifig has a purple suit… technically it’s possible!

It can any time now. But Batman showed up in 2005 when Marvel didn't show up until 2012."

Actually Marvel first had sets in 2002 for Spider-Man

And Lego Catwoman has never been allowed in a set without a motorbike ever since

By in United States,

First set I got from the Batman relaunch, back at my old hometown LEGO store! Used to regularly make custom minifigs of my cats using that mask and the original Catwoman mask. (Pretty sure that’s the main reason I bought this set, along with the cheaper price compared to the other Batman sets)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wahoo! Quadruple alliteration score!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is it bad that I think - I’m not even sure without checking - I have this set but never opened it?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This was the first Batman set I ever got. I was too young when the original Batman theme was out, so I was super excited when they brought it back. I loved the Batman fig in this set, but now there are so many great Batman figs that this one is very far down my list of favourites. Still great to have the blue wings though.

When I first saw this in 2012, I was reminded of 7779 from six years prior. Batman traded the bat-dragster for the jetpack (batpack?).

Come to think of it, several sets of the 2012 Batman revival seem like remakes of the Batman sets from 2006. See 7781 and 6864, 7782 and 6863, as well as 7785 and 10937.

@rishi_eel:
The tricky thing is, what works for print media doesn’t always translate well to live-action. The reason they made Kenton’s batsuit solid black is because they couldn’t make the classic comic book color scheme look not-ridiculous. Affleck’s suit really only pulled it off by being a dark enough shade of grey that it read pretty close to black. They tend to make Superman’s outfit dark blue with no shorts for the same reason, and the X-Men movies dropped the blue/yellow for solid black also.

@NatureBricks:
Marvel Superheroes debuted in 2012, and has now been eligible for RSotD for 3.5 months. DC Superheroes had a teaser launch in 2011, but the SDCC/NYCC minifigs don’t have enough parts to qualify for RSotD, so the first sets also became eligible this year. Batman as a stand-alone theme ran 2005-2008, so the full run was eligible from the day RSotD started. But Spiderman movie sets ran 2002-2005, so Marvel (by way of Sony) was actually first, and that full run was also eligible when RSotD started.

@Brickalili:
She actually had pretty much the same motorcycle in 7779, and in fact debuted that motorcycle fairing.

@RaiderOfTheLostBrick:
I feel like you still missed one in there somewhere.

The batcaves, probably. And a few years later we would get a new Bat-copter in the man-bat set, a new Bat-ski with mr freeze in a set with aquaman and arguably a new bat-tank in a not-suicide squad set.

You know, for all the overabundance of batman we rarely get straight-up remakes of the same vehicles beside batmobiles. In fact, a range like the 2006-2008 one with all the iconic villains rarely ever happens anymore.

Let's be real here, we all were just army-building the traffic lights for our modular streets and just sold the Batmen and Catwomen on Bricklink

Nah - I have this and very nearly every other DC and Marvel Super Heroes set and LEGO Batman set, probably 95% unopened for lack of space.

Still, better to have and not yet have room than to finally have room but not have.

By in United States,

So I went to look at the set inventory to see what other sets that wing piece had been in (only one, 10937) and I saw this at the top: "According to the set database, this set has 89 parts. The inventory from LEGO.com contains 91 parts. This suggests that the inventory is 102.2% complete." Wonder how that happened.

By in United States,

@Binnekamp:
No, I was referring to the list of sets that included a Catwoman minifig, but not a motorcycle. I was apparently thinking of the set from the show that almost killed Batman, but it turns out that does have a motorcycle after all. However, there is still 851689.

@TheOtherMike:
Darn you! Holy cow, that was immensely frustrating. I added up the numbers in the Brickset database. Got 91. I added up the numbers in the back of an instruction booklet. Got 89. I checked the database against the instructions. Every item matched, and had the same quantities listed next to them. I did all of this _THREE_TIMES_ and never got any different results. Finally, I took a picture of the instructions list so I could pull it up in Edit mode and scratch off each element as I went through the list again. Brickset has part 50861 listed twice, once as element 4244953, and one as element 6064174, but because I was just checking one part at a time, I was never going to catch it without being able to check them off as I verified them.

Oh, and the instructions show a black Batman cowl in the part list, while the set actually uses dark blue. However, the listed element ID number of 4653253 appears to be correct.

By in Denmark,

The flat tile 4655208 appears to have a mushroom cloud in the newspaper, although the story printed on the tile is about something totally different. [Possible spoiler alert] Since this printed tile first appeared in 2012, same year of the release of The Dark Knight Rises, I wonder if this is a reference to the film. Or maybe it is just a tree. The other figure on the tile I have no idea what it is.

@DFX:
It’s a tree, and a fairly generic man. At one time, I was able to decipher what the text probably says, and it was an equally generic story. Unfortunately, I can’t remember where I posted the text. I would try to transcribe it again, but it took at least an hour last time, and I don’t have that long before I’ll be locked out of this comment thread.

BTW, there is an updated version of this basic design. That one I don’t think I ever did transcribe.
