Review: 41023 Fawn's Forest
Posted by Huw,
41023 Fawn's Forest is the second of three of the new series 3 Friends Animals sets that I'm taking a quick look at.
This one features a baby deer, a fawn, which is new in this set. Like all Friends animals, it has a certain style which fits in well with the Friends line but which makes it unsuitable for use in other contexts, for example in a City layout.
A useful selection of brown parts make up the short and stubby tree which appears to be blossoming. The set also comes with a food bowl from which the fawn eats dark pink cherries, which have reappeared in that colour this year, having last been seen in Belville sets in the 2000's.
There's not much more to say about it really, other than in common with others in the series, it's a steal at £2.99/$4.99 and will be a big hit with the target audience of little girls.

Nice review. That fawn creeps me out though...
Good review Huw! Though as Sir Brickalot said the fawn is so...
A deer's eyes should be on the sides of its head. Deer are prey, not predators.
I presume the Technic brick visible in the first image is for a flick-fire missile? :o)
Great review though Huw, I pick these up for the parts and they are a great deal.
I like the parts on this one too especially the mushroom!
Glad to see I'm not the only one who finds the fawn a bit scary looking.
From series 3 of the Friends' Animal sets, this is one the one that I plan to pick up a few of, even if all I'm doing it for is the brown parts for making trees and the pink cherry pieces.
@Capn, LOL, I wonder how long it'll be before the ubiquitous flick-fire missile makes an appearance in Friends sets :)
Oh, and let's be honest here, a few paragraphs don't make a 'great review'. The photos might be good but, admit it, the review is somewhat lacking in depth :-)
^ I would not expect anybody to be looking for a dissertation length review of a set like this, so I think two or three paragraphs is very suitable for a model consisting of 35 pieces :o)
I'd say this is the best set in the series, but just edging the other two.
This is the start to Lego's new Disney Classics line... Bambi. Waiting for Dumbo and Lady and the Tramp!
Just ordered this, the series 3 puppy, and friends school for Christmas presents! (and a mini campervan will be on its way - couldn't resist)
On my Lego blog, I've posted several stories about Lego Friends fighting a war against Lego characters such as Bilbo Baggins, Yoda, Commander Cody, Pre Viszla, the ninjas, and others. This seems to be an upgrade to their army, and I wouldn't put it past them to steal some missiles from me... :-)
@Huw, while what else is there to say about a 35 piece polybag 'like' set that has no parts of such excellence that they would be worth droning on about. :-)
Correct. If there were a missile, that might be something to drone about.
The fawn does not resemble the supposed animal at all. :-P Looks more like a tall, skinny dog that a deer. LOL.
And also, I am quite sure that the hole in the tree is nothing more than a squirrel-hole.
A flick-fire missile? So not only is the fawn creepy, but it's armed and dangerous?
Fawn? It looks like a baby cheetah after a mudbath. I really like the friends line overall, even the minidolls, but the animals are fail.
The deer looks odd, I can't even tell that it is a deer. It looks more like some kind of large cat.
Zord, Lego Friends in general are armed and dangerous.
That cat has long legs...
Someone call PETA because someone has been stretching that puppys legs
