LEGO Ideas promotional set winner
Posted by CapnRex101,
LEGO has announced the winner of the latest Ideas competition, deciding a future gift-with-purchase.
Tribute to Galileo Galilei, by Firecracker_, has achieved a comfortable victory. This submission, which should fit neatly among the existing Tribute sets, received 1432 votes, almost double its nearest rival.
The model includes a rotating Heliocentric model of the Earth and the Sun, alongside Galileo's requisite telescope. You can view the rotating function on LEGO Ideas.

Very good choice. Like it.
I believe that's the one I voted for. I didn't expect it to win as it seems so "traditional" (one of the reasons I chose it) so I'm pleased but surprised it won so comfortably.
Clearly, it seems like I have no clue whatsoever as to what people likes when it comes to GWP Lego sets. This contest had 10 options to choose from. One was declared winner, and 5 were runner ups. So 6 out of 10 sets were somewhat chosen by the people. the one set I thought was cool obviously did not make it. I really like this one (and will 'try' to get it) as it goes well with the other tribute sets but as far as STEM is concerned I think this was not the best.
I’ll have to incorporate this somehow when my Venetian Houses arrive late fall
I love it!
Yes, it got my vote.
We will expect 2 tribute sets in the next year. One for Historic Woman, One for STEM.
the Classic Space didn't win ? How even?
I'm sure this will be a cool set, but if they are going to keep doing these kinds of "tribute" sets, they simply gotta start highlighting non-white people.
I get that this one is specifically a contest winner, but I hope that we start to see a woman of color for next year's International Women's Day set
A Heliocentric model of the Earth and the Sun? WHAT!?! Arrest that man!!! I definitely want this. Anything on when and how this will be [GWP] available?
I liked the Leonardo Da Vinci and the Steam Train ideas a bit more... But that one is great as well!
The Classic Space idea was too basic.
Before or after his house arrest?
Yours with a purchase of $500.... :(

I didn't expect the Roman Inquisition!
;-P
Very nice indeed - great job, Firecracker!
Would this become available before the price hikes? I'm wanting to finally get Ninjago City Gardens before that, and any GWP would be a nice bonus.

I believe the price increases are scheduled for August or September. It ordinarily takes LEGO a lot longer than that to put a set from the concept stage into production. So no, not before then. My guess would be some time next year.
@Zander
That makes sense, thank you!
We already have a Galileo minifugre, he is near Uranus.

Of course Classic Space won! Galileo is the most influential figure in discoveries about space from a classic time!
Galileo! Galileo! Galileo, let me go!

"I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go"
not my favorite but was still my third choice maybe. cool!

They already did a real life woman of colour in the tribute set Women of NASA (IDEAS). There haven't been that many single person tribute sets, so it is not that surprising there haven't been any black people yet. "
- Still not enough representation for less than 20% of the US population. I am growing so tired of every company being expected to befall the whim of such a small subset of vocal america. If you look at the tribute sets, the metrics are in your favour. There should be another 6 sets of "non-coloured" people before you get another turn.
Yes this is what I voted for! Will fit into my city pretty well and I'm glad Galileo is getting a tribute.
I do wish people would stop complaining about so and so or such and such a demographic isn't being represented.
Can we please just celebrate all these great people for their achievements rather than getting caught up on whether they are white/black, male/female, straight/gay etc.?
They are all good people who deserve to be celebrated. We shouldn't reduce great men and women to statistics to be argued over whether there's 40%, 50%, 64.7% of such and such a demographic.
I welcome all great people to be celebrated by Lego. The International Women's Day GWP is a brilliant idea, and STEM is cool too. I'd like to see the GWP or general tribute line extended to other areas of achievement, such as the arts, and make these tributes able to be bought as well as gained as GWP, that way everyone has a chance to celebrate the achievements of whoever is being given a Lego tribute.
Not STEM based (and frankly I'm sick of the obsession with STEM), but I'd love to see a Sir David Attenborough tribute. He is such a well known and influential person who has done great things for humanity in a number of areas.
Very cool choice! This set appeals very much to my interests as a scientist and it would be fun to display this model on my office desk. Without a doubt my students would love this too. I will definitely keep an eye out for this one!

"I think it looks fantastic, and Galileo is a perfect subject, fitting every letter of STEM in just one man. The motion aspect is pretty minimal but the overall scene is great."
Another philosopher?! Yes! First, Lao Tzu from 80039, and now Galileo.
Note my vote as the original STEM competition was to create something with movement, whereas this seems to be the minimalist out of all the choices.
I generally don't pay much attention to these sorts of tribute sets, but considering how important Galileo's work was to astronomy and physics (and by extension, the aerospace industry), I could be convinced to pick this one up and decorate my desk with it. Provided the final design looks cool enough, that is.

LEGO isn't a US company and is also sold in other countries. I'm not sure what the US demographic has to do with anything. "
do you fail to read the rest of the comment? wow. good job. the comment was a take on the original post. african americans make up less than 20% of the US population, but expect greater then 50% of the representation

You know who we are.
I do hope they add the Jupiter and Juno Minifigures to this or another set. Then we would have official reproductions of the three Minifigures on the Juno spacecraft, the furthest LEGO has ever been sent and now a (very small) part of the 1.898 × 10^27 kg mass of the planet Jupiter.
Nice design and subject but too dull in colour in my opinion.
It seems as if everyone thinks that the world was suffering of a lack of culture once you go back in time.
