LEGO Con 2022: This Saturday
Posted by CapnRex101,
LEGO Con 2022 is taking place on Saturday 18th of June, beginning at 5pm BST, 12 noon ET and 9am PT.
The event received a decidedly mixed reception last year, particularly because there were few product announcements. The schedule for this year confirms there will be many more, although room remaims for surprises.
Suffice to say, I think it will be worth keeping an eye on Brickset on Saturday, as there should be something for everyone!
What are you hoping to see from LEGO Con? Let us know in the comments.

Maybe a set from a film franchise beginning with ‘A’ will be revealed. We’ll be able to see images of that set that have never, ever been seen before on Brickset and certainly not yesterday :~P
Don't think I'll bother to watch it after last time, but I'll keep an eye out for any news. Here, eurobricks and Instagram should be able to provide the information a lot faster, trimmed down and more accessible than watching the show.

What images? What's a film franchise? Sorry, I don't know what you mean :o)
Yes, we were asked to remove those set images as their provenance was considered dubious.
I am looking forward to it, hopefully we will see the 90 year castle there :D
"LEGO Con"?! Is it something to do with the upcoming price increases?
Hoping we’ll see the Sanctum Santorum, and it’ll be nice if it doesn’t get leaked beforehand for a genuine reveal.
It was a painful watch last year with all the filler stuff for the younglings which was/is understandable. So I'll wait for the recording so I can forward to the good bits
I'm hoping people will realize it's an event meant more for families than AFOLs, so to avoid the constant complaining.

That is exactly the problem with this sort of 'program'. Eventually, you have to decide who is your audience. If it is kids, that's fine but do not advertise on AFOLs channels. If it is for AFOLs, then do not dumb it down so much it becomes cringy every other second.
I watched last year (not live). But I won't really bother this year. I'll wait for the summary. If I'll ever hear that it was incredibly good (high doubts about that) I may watch it. To me it's not so much the content but the delivery.
@Blog_n_roll So true right?! The great Lego con of 2022 are the prices increases.

Partly agree. It definitely is aimed at a younger audience, but in my experience, under 10s are not going to choose to watch that kind of content for 2 hours.
A brand-new theme? I'm going for Clikits with an app.

I wonder what is worse ,
AFOLs who are complaining / criticizing Lego
or Lego Fanboys who say yes to everything because it's Lego."
I think the "Bell Curve of LEGO Fandom" applies, as it does most of the time. A minority will hate "X" because it doesn't pander to their very specifically individual wants; a minority will love "X" just because it's LEGO and the company are faultless in everything they do; the majority think "X" is a bit 'Meh!' and won't bother with it; everyone else either likes or dislikes "X" but not enough to offer an opinion on it.
If LEGO really wants to stop leaks, their focus should be on Instagram instead of Brickset. Brickset got their images of the Avatar sets from Walmart, which really shouldn’t count as a leak.
Seriously, the leaked set pics are still up on Insta along with some other stuff. It’s not even that hard to find the accounts. That article being taken down just kinda feels like it killed the mood for revealing the set.

Indeed. That's why they had to pull out of Germany :P

Walmart is considered dubious if they accidentally spoil the big surprise for LEGO’s big event

Have you ever been to a Walmart? There's a reason there's a whole web site called "People of Walmart". :)

The circumstances of the images' acquisition from Walmart was considered dubious, as it was unclear whether they had actually been published for public view on the Walmart app.
Will Brickset be able to post the secret VIP code from the streamed convention? Or do we have to watch the thing to get it? I'd rather just read the recaps.
Joel Mchale is a funny dude. And most of his work (comedy) is adult-oriented, at least what I have seen. So maybe they are trying to shift this more towards an AFOL or adult experience and less of the cringy kid fluff.
IMO, Lego Con was a gimmicky and cringy way for Lego to showcase new products in a move so "how do you do fellow kids" that I'm surprised that exact line wasn't written in their scripts. I don't particularly care to check it out this year, I got things to do and places to be.
However, for as long as I have been on Brickset, Huw CapnRex, and the rest of the Brickset team never miss with their coverage of new sets and themes. The articles are pretty thorough and well-written, and get to the point without the fluff and flair of Lego's hyperactive social media managers. So while I can't say I care much for Lego Con, I'm thankful for Brickset taking care of the news and new releases in the database.
EDIT: I just realized who the Con's hosts are, and I'm glad Jeff Winger finally graduated from Greendale! Good for him.

I am open to be happily surprised. I'll check his tuff to see what he is about. Thanks.

Watch Community first, of course, but then enjoy his stand up and even his turn as a clip show host. I might tune into the Con just to see what kind of fun Joel has with the Content.
I'll be at Brickworld Chicago but will be interesting to see how different it is than last year
I know it's aimed at kids, not me, but I still hope we'll see the 90-year castle.
Hopefully not a waste of my hours like the last one was
What's up with the Ninjago tagline "Getting ready for a grand finale"?
Is Ninjago scheduled for retirement?
The only thing I will watch is Minecraft. Because Lady Agnes will be in!

Oh by far the AFOLs. They think LEGO is an evil, huge corporation not a toy seller who don't only cater to what they want.
If Lego want this event to be a success with unveiling new sets or themes they really really have to work on leaks and their own incompetence with sets appearing in apps, upcoming brochures etc. (like with the A set we dont know anything about)
Its like they invented the term 'shooting yourself in the foot'
It’ll be on at 2 in the morning in Australia, and after last year, that will be a few hours of sleep wasted

Leaks don't harm Lego, if anything they help build anticipation."
Leaks can have both positive and negative impacts on sales, irrespective of momentum/anticipation. The new LEGO trains are a perfect example for me. I don't like the 2 new trains and am thus reconsidering picking up the current freight train, even at RRP. Same goes with the new train station whose blandness and price tag helped me decide to go after the BLDP Round 3 train station. Alternatively, knowing in advance that LEGO was releasing dark troopers in a smaller set ended my pursuit of the Imperial Light Cruiser for which I had long been on the fence.
Lego Avatar: FAKE NEWS. Didn't happen folks. (Lego proceeds to literally reveal it the next day)
At least we can't accuse Lego of fake advertising with the name Lego CON. I agree with others, if it's for kids, fine but don't advertise to adults then.

Agree, my point was when they hype a release that we already found out about weeks ago it just becomes a fizzer. Zero impact.
A new theme from LEGO? Hopefully it's the promised island-based Adventurers theme.

(Places middle and pointer fingers on forehead) The new theme will be...Avatar; as it hasn't been "officially" announced yet...
Too bad these 'events' won't allow fan Q&A, because I bet a lot of people would like to ask question like: Will there be more DC stuff/sets in the near future (like DC CMF2)
Also: hopefully we get a 'timeline' as when to '90 Ann' sets are released; so I can prep for '90's G.E.' (or two).

Jeff graduated in season 4. He was a teacher in the last two seasons.
Now I'm sad because I'm reminded there is no movie and Ideas passed on the Community submission.

I assume not. Is it about the grand finale in the new 'Crystalised' season? Some endgame battle with al those general villains? But then there will just be a 16th and 17th season i guess.
So what's there to reveal: some new great set we didn't see yet? or is it just about the second half of new episodes?
I just wish they would settle their Netflix contracts. Still no 'Island', 'Seabound' or 'Crystalised' here...

Lego employees never answer questions about future sets at least not in any way that confirm or deny sets etc so that would not help you much..
The castle comes out in in the beginning of August, not sure about the exact date, but maybe we will know more tomorrow ;)
@Huw Ninjago Grand Finale?!?!?! Now that sounds surprising indeed.
Ninjago Grand Finale had me curious, then I found some youtubers talking about how the Crystalized Part 2 poster has leaked. So probably just some screening of clips of the second half of the Crystalized season. Snore.
I have zero hope that we will actually get a new theme that we don't know about, my guess is that they are just talking about the Avatar sets that we know are coming.
Considering that all the announcements got revealed on the lego fan sites simultaneously or in some cases before the livestream... I think I'll just hold my excitement and catch up the news at my leisure Saturday evening.

Calling this a promise seems a stretch to me, especially considering that the sticker depicts the CMF Johnny Thunder from a year or so earlier.
Oh well, can't watch it live here in Korea for it will be 1AM when it's all happening.
