Review: 41719 Mobile Fashion Boutique

Posted by ,

After taking a look at some of the pricier sets in the Friends range, today we'll look at one of the smaller sets. There's always a set or two geared towards the pocket money range, and this time it's 41719 Mobile Fashion Boutique.

This boutique concept isn't new for Friends, but what is new is that Stephanie is the Friend staffing the boutique, as opposed to Emma.

Summary

41719 Mobile Fashion Boutique, 94 pieces.
£8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 | 9.6p/10.6c/10.6c per piece.

A small Friends fashion based set with decent functionality at a pocket money price

  • Two minidolls
  • Maximum use of limited space

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

Inside the box there are two unnumbered bags, a mirror sticker, and instruction book and a few loose pieces.

There are two minidolls in this set; a nice surprise for a smaller set. It seems, among all the other improvements made in the line in recent years, that more minidolls are being included in sets, particularly those at a lower price point.

Stephanie is wearing a very fashionable sleeveless hoodie with slashing purple stripe over a white t-shirt. She's wearing a necklace that features her signature star. Neither torso or blue skirt and white tennies are new to this set. Camila is the other minidoll, making a reappearance from the Magical Funfair subtheme from last year. While her torso is the same as last year, her teal shorts were previously seen on Sebastian in 41709 Vacation Beach House.

This is a very mobile, and pretty small fashion boutique, in that it can be hauled around by a scooter! The scooter is new in this colour, as are the bow pieces used for the top and bottom of the fashion cart.

I like the brick built bow on the top of the cart - in case seeing all the wares didn't tip an observer off as to the nature of the store, the bow would eliminate any doubt! There's a decent array of accessories available - hairbows, makeup, and sunglasses.

There's even a mirror (provided by a sticker, of course) for a prospective customer to admire their new adornments.

The rear view of the boutique shows more details. A small cash register is there, and clipped to the side of the boutique cart are a pair of scissors and a hair dryer. While that doesn't quite fit in with a boutique, it would fit with a salon - perhaps Stephanie is starting up a mobile blow dry bar?

Overall thoughts

For pocket money set, there's a lot here - for kids who love accessories, this has plenty. I like that there are two minidolls in a small set. There are also several pieces that are relatively rare, including the bright bluish green bow pieces and scooter, and that coral helmet. A full parts list can be found here.

This is a nice, inexpensive, colourful set with some decent play value, and also checks the box for being this year's Friends fashion set.

Fun little set! And the big teal "aircraft slopes" are some neat parts you wouldn't usually find in a set this size.

Also neat to see Camila making an appearance outside the funfair!

Nice parts usages on the, cart, the connection to the scooter, the 2piece hairdryer build, and the bowtie decoration.

Nice little set, I like the Coral red wheel hubs. Sadly, knowing LEGO, Im sure it will be more around 15 USD in no time.

So far the price increases on sets seem focused toward bigger sets (presumably to keep smaller sets affordable for kids). So hopefully a set like this won't be affected.

You know how people always complain about pinks and purples in Friends sets? It's teal for me, across most themes. It seems like teal is the only color they ever make scooters in anymore these days. This is not even an Andrea set. Give us some bright green or regular green!

True, at least for the setslike €8/$8 Stuntz bikes or €10/$10 Chicken Coop etc.

But then there are some €20 sets that cost $35 US / $45 CAD (City Stunz Challenge), that's a giant (regional) difference all of a sudden.

I don't think they can really raise small set prices more, or the whole impulse buy would be lost, CMF are already pushing a limit at €4 / $5 , and the €13/$13 blister packs like 40526: Electric Scooters & Charging Dock
