Hey, I remember playing with the parts from this one growing up. I did not apply the stickers straight at all. I don't think any of them have ever peeled, but they're not my best work. That's what you get for being 5. Unless maybe I got my parents to help, I don't remember. If they did, woof, maybe I would have done a better job. XD
So many classic sets recently, I wonder where they went?
^ Putting stickers inside panels is almost as bad as over multiple parts.
Good old late '90s Space-port. It was trying so hard to pull away from the juniorised style that characterised most of Lego, at this point, and it almost got there.
I liked this little one, I thought it was cute. Good for interesting parts (like that big windshield, or the trans-yellow radar dish).
From the new Nintendo game, The Legend of Com-Zelda.
I remember the highlight of this set being the minifig for me. Something about that all red uniform being so striking with the glasses face was a big plus.
When I played with this set as a kid, I said it had "super-grip tires" that let it drive straight up walls ... or straight up an imaginary road in thin air. Who needs aerodynamic or propulsive lift when you've got really, really good tire treads anyway?
Can somebody tell me if he’s on Earth or on another planet? Lol

Well, this was a Town set, so…

That looks a lot like the Death Star over the horizon, so I think he's on Alderaan.
Wow, look at the size of them meteors... In a few seconds he won't need to worry himself with the quailty of the connection.
Space Port was an interesting theme. It had it all.
Space vehicles with launch towers?
Check. Scientific test equipment? Check.
Mundane stuff like surveilance choppers? Check.
An actual astronaut training center? Check!
Meteor parts? Check!
Chrome GREEN rocks, the only time that color was used? Check.
And then there were sets like this. It's not too exotic, yet it's weirdly unique and also weirdly specific. But if you would collect the entire theme everything would work together instead of everything doing the same thing.
The late 90s were a weird time. But that wasn't always a bad thing.
Fun fact: Space Port is the prequel to Life on Mars because BB, the kid astronaut in the Solar Explorer, suposedly trained in the training center first.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
(On the headset): "Yes...yes...your cable will be restored shortly, just locating the break in signal. Yes, all packages. Yes, and thank you for choosing 'Com-Link'.":D
His body language suggests panic at those incoming meteors but you just can’t wipe the smile off that man’s face!
As a huge fan of Launch Command, I found Space Port disappointing.
Best Speed Champion ever.

Well, this being "Space Port" most of these sets are actually meant to be stationed at, or be, a/the space port. I agree the background looks a little 'alien,' but in my mind this vehicle (like most others) has been stationed on earth, being part of launch control etc.
@MCLegoboy: And that is why 4+/Juniors sets have all printed pieces.
@namekuji: Even though it's six-wide?
I had that canopy piece from a used lot, but none of the rest of the set was present. I instantly recognised which theme it was from due to the Space Port logo stickers, though.
Does anyone know what the significance was of this guy (Don Small according to Lego Adventures UK Magazine, Technician Bob according to Lego Island 2, possibly other names in other regions) having several different hats across the range? In the set I had him in, 6459, he wore a red cap; but in various sets he also has a white cap like here, or a white construction helmet as in 6456. I feel like maybe the base was short-staffed, so he had to cover for several different jobs, and changed hat based on which job role he was in at any given time?
The sky is full of meteors because the backstory for the Space Port line, as told in the 1998 Mania Magazine, was that the space agency was defending the planet from a meteor shower. I’m sure that was meant to cash in on the blockbuster movies Deep Impact and Armageddon without actually getting a movie license.
Blah, Blah Juniorisation....
I LOVE That screen! Its such a great piece. I wish we got more of them.
I used to play with a bunch of Space Port sets a class at school had, and eventually I got one of them for my own at home. Very nostalgic set.

It doesn't look like Earth . . . but then again he doesn't have a helmet on, so that confuses things. An alien planet with a breathable atmosphere maybe?
A while ago I tried to collect all of these Space Port sets (Lego Space is my jam) and I was really impressed with this whole line. Lots of variety and the sound pieces are really cool.
Space Port: where your car accidentally looks like half a spaceship, and your spaceship looks like half an accident!
@iwybs:
Deep Impact, where the whole planet is saved-but-not-really, or Armageddon, where NASA makes their employees watch it to show them all the things that aren’t scientifically possible?
@SinKiller_Nick:
I’m guessing you’ve never been to Craters of the Moon National Park? Not every place on Earth looks like a place on Earth. CotMNP is where one of the Apollo crews trained so they’d be able to recognize scientifically significant moon rocks, and frankly the place looks weirder than the moon.
@AllenSmith:
Whatever that is, I don’t think it’ll taste like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.

Cute, a little awkward but I think it'd be nice to have to mod up a bit.
