Awful getaway vehicle mister criminal. The orange just stands out way too much. You need to go more subtle, you're already taking enough of a risk keeping the striped shirt.

By in Australia,

I don't even remember this set existing.

I think all these prisoner transport vans look the same, so I bought the first one, and never felt the need to buy another.

By in Poland,

That's nice, it's one of my first sets!

He stole it from the Power Miners 8961

Oh man this was my 3rd son’s first favourite set back in the day! I remember how he played with it for a long time, and it lasted as his favourite the longest I’d say as well (now he’s into castle as a theme but no individual set is his favourite). As a result, this set warms my heart whenever I see it.

Those long stickers on the barricade, though…

Very nice set. So much play value.

By in United States,

One of my first post-"dark ages" set, what a good one.

By in United States,

Huh, this makes me wonder: are there any cars with side view mirrors that are built into the vehicle and pop out like wedges?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like the checkpoint did not work.

@Zordboy: They don't *all* look the same. 1786, for instance, was black and four-wide.

@MeisterDad: I know what you mean about the barricade stickers. I hate stickers on eight-long tiles.

By in United States,

That’s a pretty lenient society, letting a prisoner deliver themselves to prison by motorcycle, when they have such a useful armored van handy.

@Norikins:
They stole it first, from the Coast Guard 5626.

By in Turkey,

The van is very nice with simple build and colors. I'd prefer a 4 stud design but can't win them all.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can’t see anyone behind the bars of the van so technically the prisoner transport in this set is the bike

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I copied this van design for all sorts of vehicles. A bit like a Lego Ford Transit…

You are the only one to have such bizarre idea. In all seriousness fascists (the original ones from 1930s and 40s Italy) wore brown shirts. So maybe you see Nazi SS unfiroms here? But still that is A BIIIIIIG STRETCH.

Not exactly a wedge, but pretty close is the late 90s/early 2000s Vauxhall (or Opel or Chevrolet) Vectra. Definitely built in though.

Yes, you are. That's a ridiculous thought and the only disconcerting thing is that you had it.

By in Netherlands,

It's weird how multifunctional this is compared to previous and later prisoner transports because of the cargo hold in the middle. The prisoner cabin is probably small as a result and its capacity is lower due to that. But it's more general purpose than others of its kind.

Fun fact: The figures are almost completely the same as those from 2005, the start of City. The policeman is 100%, and the crook is sans backpack, which was new at the time. The next year the minifigs would finally get an update.

My first set I got on my own, has a very special place in my heart! Absolutely loved it as well, was great fun. Man I wish Lego city could go back to the good old days.

Still no pop-out, but how about the Autech Zagato Stelvio AZ1:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lwHeFJRIsI

I actually kind of like these uniforms; I’m more concerned about just how strong the police presence is in LEGO City. It seems kind of fascistic that there are so damn many cops, and that they’re so lavishly equipped. The constant police surveillance is pretty disturbing to adult eyes.

That said, this set in and of itself seems a good, solid build, and a good amount of play value for a set this size. Of course it’s kind of stickeriffic, but what else is new; still not a bad set, all in all…

Yeah, you'd think Lego City would have lower crime with such a high police-to-ordinary-citizen ratio. Personally, I'd rather see more Alpha Team/Agents style sets and less police.

Maybe one word that starts with a "L" and ends with "epin"?

:-)

If LEGO City has millions upon millions of citizens — and given the diversity of activity it engenders, it must — I think a few thousand policemen and firemen would be expected.

By in Canada,

Think 'later versions' of this are better, for a simple reason: the addition of one more 'crook' minifig...Why? Because, in that scenario; the 'Transport' is, well, 'transporting'. The other 'crook' can thus be used towards a prison-break (or at least an attempt), and BOTH vehicles ca also be brought into play, without a 'one-or-the-other' type of situation...

Only other things I can think/say:
Truck/Van has 'gaps' around the wheel wells.

Oh, and the officer going through his crate: "Let's see: 'Traffic Signal', 'Bullhorn', 'Radio'...gun...where's...'note' 'due to City 'cut-backs'...'":)
