Paper bags replace magazine gift foil packs
Posted by CapnRex101,
The latest issue of the long-running Marvel Super Heroes magazine is available in Continental Europe, revealing an update to the magazine gift's packaging.
Rather than the usual foil pack, 242215 Thanos is instead packaged in a paper bag. LEGO has already asserted that paper bags will begin to appear during 2022 and these magazine gifts are probably just one example of the change.
We will see whether the paper bags also arrive in the UK when the issue is released shortly.

I always get these when there’s a good minifig, but… I foresee ripped open paper bags, on the magazine racks in Tesco, in the weeks to come!!!
Wish they had these in the U.S.

You can get them off Newsstand.co.uk
I'm live in South Africa and I get the odd issue. Even with the massive difference in the exchange rate (Pound to Rand is a killer), they are still reasonable, especially for what you are getting. You will just have to obviously wait awhile for them to arrive
Put the CMFs in these bags, rather than in boxes, and then we'll talk.
While I share peoples worries about the paper bags making them easier to tamper with, I feel that they'll get damaged just sitting on the shelves or in transport.
While the old plastic/mylar foil bags could easily be ripped open if you wanted to, at least they're more damage resistant to movement related wear and tear then I think these paper ones will be. Especially given the sharp corners of mini-figs and the pointy nature of some parts.

There are multitude of paper types to choose for packaging. Cardboard is also paper. There are only two advantages for plastic bags- they are wet proof and colours shine better on the printings. But those are virtually irrelevant things here. So, yay for the paper bags!

Came here to say just that.
Using these for CMFs would have been pretty smart though, if they’re durable enough to not tear when people start feeling them. It definitely seems more resource-efficient than the boxes and stealing is much harder to do unnoticed when there’s not just a flap you can seamlessly open and close again. Still, I welcome this change even if it raises some questions about other topics.
I may have to look into buying one of these, so I have a Thanos for Squirrel Girl to beat the snot out of.
@mr_Fikou:
1. The only ones I find that have been pilfered are torn fairly aggressively.
2. These probably still have a flap, so I fail to see how old tricks would be rendered impossible with the switch to paper.

I suspect they wouldn't be durable enough to cope with much feeling up, given the sharp corners that many pieces have.
I for one applaud this move to more fragile bags that can be more easily and quickly opened, it makes life so much easier for my fellow shoplifters and I!
For legal reasons that is a joke.
I have actually never seen these at any of the stores I frequent, so for those who collect these, I wish you the best of luck.
Good. The more environmentally friendly Lego gets, the better.

because they are glued to the cover? in Poland all of those lego magazines are in clear plastic wrapping and foil pack is loosely put in.

Yes, in the UK the packs are taped to the front of the magazine. Whenever I have seen them in Continental Europe, they have been in plastic wrapping, although perhaps they are taped somewhere else too.

The few times I've seen them in US stores (never bought any, as $9 is stupid expensive) the magazine and gift were all together in a plastic baggie.

"Yaaaay lego saves the day once again!!!!!
Anyways, wake me up when they revert to their old plastic and the parts aren't borderline bootleg quality"
I swear I thought I was crazy when pieces on even my newest sets started cracking after a year's time. Nice to know it's not just my issue. I love Lego but pieces on built sets should NOT be cracking after only a years time
*SIGH*...The "Problem" WASN'T "THE BAG", the "PROBLEM" was THE "FOIL"...if TLG would switch to what they were doing with 'Mixles'; just. plain. PLASTIC. BAGS!!! Which would be recyclable, natch...

I am curious, might cracked pieces be exclusive to the american continent? I hear stories of many cracking parts in new sets from americans since 2013 but have much more rarely found cracking bricks myself in europe. I wonder if it might be lower standards with the american production plants or the harsher climate of certain US regions that accelerates their ageing.
I notice the deteriorating quality of the brand more from their bad color mixing, inconsistent and milky shades.

yeah 9$ is pretty steep or even too steep for any mini build and for most figures. But you know it's expensive because it's imported. In Germany, Austria it's 5 and 5,5 euros and in Poland it's even like 3,5 so I do not hesitate too much and buy quite a lot of them.

I have a bunch of magazines with unopened minifigure packs and I found an interesting pattern there: The whole magazine is in plastic wrapping if there is a limited edition collecting card attached to the cover of the magazine. And the ninjago magazines with two minifigures are also in the plastic wrappings, like 112215. For the record, I bought all these magazines in Germany.
You could get rid of the plastic wrappings easily if you really want to as publisher.

Unfortunately although some types of plastic CAN be recycled, very little actually is (approximately 10% in the U.K.) and most can only be recycled a small number of times.
Is tape recyclable?
Just bought one today. I like the paper bag, but the magazine still comes in plastic foil. Almost good!
