I want that Frog car.
Hands down one of my favorite non-licensed, non-space themes. If I were a kid when I’d gotten these, I almost surely would’ve had them team up with Johnny Thunder.
I have the frog! Got it in a bag of random parts at an antique mall. Bought the bag for the trans neon green 1/4 dome from 6989 Mega Core Magnetizer, the frog was a bonus!
Heh, did not realize there was a metallic silver frog piece
This was such a great theme. I remember wanting this set as well all protagonist minifigs. I also considered getting the swamp speeder. The moonstones were a pretty cool collectible as well.
Where wolf? There wolf!
(Roll in ze hay, roll in ze hay!)
Awesome theme!
Look at the claws. That's not a werewolf, that's just Wolverine in his most feral form!
I love Major Steele's uniform! Shame he didn't have a regular monocle instead. Such a great theme, cool builds and I really like how Rodney Rathbone was named after Basil Rathbone for his roles in various spooky/horror films (as well as Sherlock Holmes)
Ah yes. Monster Fighters.
Man. I wish I'd bought that Ghost Train when it was available.
That’s a wicked-cool bunch of sets. Makes me wish they do a set with the supernatural version of Marvel’s Howling Commandos.
@iwybs:
There castle!
Such an underrated theme. I only missed out on the castle and zombie sets. So close to getting them all.
Rebuilt this guy to celebrate Hidden Side coming out. One of my go to Halloween decors
Quick Lore!
Vampire Lord! Wants to conquer Earth!
Magic crystals can open a portal!
Werewolf has crystal!
Stop Vampire!
Quick Lore!
Got most of this set in one of my earliest bulk bins. Missing moonstone and the werewolf head was chewed. I bought a replacement head but still no stone…trying to get all these sets but The Zombies continues to elude me. Especially liked the historic c. 1930s setting.
Never got any of the sets but they do look pretty neat. Monster Fighters had a very similar vibe to Pharaoh’s Quest the year before, were they supposed to be spin-offs or related, like Agents and Atlantis having a character in common?
This is a cool set and all but 1380 was always the werewolf set (and Minifigure, for that matter) that I remembered more. Admittedly it’s because I was maybe sort of attracted to that werewolf— look, I’m not a furry, it just sort of happened.
One of the few themes I own completely, including polybags. I love lego monster themes. Apart from the augmented reality, Hidden Side was pretty sweet too, set wise. Would love to see a monster fighters II theme.
Didn't even know this theme existed. Looks cool though (not as cool as Adventurers, but still cool).
Monster Fighters should have become the next big theme instead of Ninjago :-(
One of the last themes I went nuts for before I entered my dark age. Sadly I never got the haunted house but I got everything else. The werewolf mold is super cool. The play function of the tree (launching the werewolf at the dude) works I guess, but never really enthralled me.
One of my favourite themes…
Unsurprisingly.
Be careful! It's "His Special Tree"!
The first time the werewolf had this headpiece, right? And the cmf woodchopper was made after him i believe. Everything monster is great!
@MeisterDad Glad someone else liked the 1930s theme! I wonder if Lego was inspired by the famous horror films of that era like Dracula (1931) or the original The Mummy. I believe there was a Frankenstein movie around that time too.
Old cars are awesome and I think that vintage feel suits a spooky theme better than Hidden Side's mobile phones and hoodies. After all, creeping around a haunted house at night with a candlestick holder is far more spooky than using the light from your cellphone!
Monster Fighters was a really creative theme, as were many of Lego's 2008-2012 original themes. All gone now sadly :(
One of my all-time favorite themes. I have the entire series and the sets are delightful. These were available when I came out of my dark years and I gobbled them up. They are fun builds with good attention to detail.
Monster Fighters! Oh yes!
For once this is a theme I have 100% completed the sets for (only missing that one accesory sticker set and some gear). I love it to bits!
I started by buying 6468 Vampyre Castle in a lot that came with this and the 6464 Vampyre Hearse and the 6466 Crazy Scientists' Laboratory. I then built one set each month. This one first, then the two smaller ones 6461 and 6462 that I bought seperately etc. I ended up buying the 6467 Ghost Train to complete the main theme. But when I got to the castle I loved the theme so much I bit the bullet on 6465 The Zombies, which I cycled a great distance for and came with the polybags.
I wasn't planning on getting the 10228 Haunted House... but I found one on SALE. Imagine that! So I exhausted my last funds and got that as well. It was almost all I bought for half a year except CMFs, but it was worth it! It's still my largest set.
This RSotD set is the perfect 20 euro set!
The tree is a great build and detailed. No SNOT. It doesn't need it. The function is a more advanced form of the one from 2258 Ninja Ambush and works super well! I love buildable action features! I like how it looks a bit like the tree has a face. The hollow is cool, as if there's amber inside that nicely matches the moonstone.
The car is nice too, as are both figs. The clips for accesories are nice. The claws glow in the dark, which was a staple of the theme. Overall this is one of the best small sets... ever!
This is what I'm talking about when I praise unlicensed themes and harp on about small sets. It's an art to balance size and functionality/looks. This set perfectly strikes it. In fact all MF sets do. A perfect bang for your buck! And the subject matter is something a licensed theme wouldn't have really done.

Considering how much inspiration the theme takes from the old Universal Studios monster movies, I wouldn't be to sure of that...

The figures? Definitely. I'm talking about the sets themselves. The Monster Fighters have artificial limbs and souped up vehicles ranging from ghostbusting to monster hunting to zombie smashing. The monster builds revolve around the moonstones and often are designed with the freedom of not having to recreate anything.
The closest a licensed them got was Scooby Doo, and that theme still had to nail the Scooby Doo aesthetic first and foremost.
Wolverine really let himself go.
Remember when Universal was trying to make a classic movie monsters cinematic universe? Why they would try when LEGO already nailed it in the Monster Hunters theme is beyond me.
This might be my favorite theme ever. I would buy the heck outta another monster/ghost/Halloween styled theme.

I wish I had gotten more of the Monster Fighters when they came out. I was not very impressed with most of them when they came out though. I was going to get the zombie set, but I waited to long. Still think about getting a used castle.
When the CMF Monster series came out I did order a full set of them; first time I ordered a full series.
As a hardcore Adventurers fan, Major Steele and his car alone was worth getting this set. Monster Fighters had a lot of cool stuff that reminded me of the monster Studios sets from 2002. This set in particular is kind of like a revamp of 1380: Werewolf Ambush.

I used Major Steele's torso to upgrade Johnny's nemesis: https://flic.kr/p/oRMg6j
I'm only missing The Zombies and Haunted House, now they are the most expensive to get.
@Brickodillo:
No, 8805-8 looks almost nothing like this guy, aside from the basic red/blue color scheme of his outfit. 71010-1 is probably what you’re thinking of. The pattern on the shirt is similar, the color scheme is an exact match, and they both have “Kel” written in green on the left side of their shirts.
As for werewolf heads and hats, 1380 (unprinted, looked like something from The Simpsons) was repeated for 4756. This one was next, and has never been repeated. A few years later, 71010-1 included a similar design, which was repeated across 21315, 43101-12, and 76407. Finally, 71034-8 gave us a wolf hat with an open face.
Released during my depression years, looks like I missed out.

I share your love for this theme, but i would say JUST LIKE Ninjago, and not INSTEAD OF Ninjago. ;)
Monster Fighters had just one wave, in 2012, and then the story ended. The sun got 'blackened' and then all of the good guys died, and evil ruled the world?
No way! Bought this today from a local charity shop for £2.50. Unsure of all the pieces are there, but looks close.

Right. In fact, it's the *only* time this headpiece appeared.
One of the werewolves in the pack in my display has this headpiece.
