So does it actually convert with a roof, or is it all flash with no substance?

After nearly eleven months of eligibility we finally get a friends set.

Paradisa walked so Friends could run--and a decade and a half later, it did. So, it's appropriate we got a Paradisa lead-in to our first Friends set.

I actually remember this one. I don't own it (there's very few Friends sets I've gone out of my way to acquire), but it made a mark in my mind at the time for that bold-coloured car.

By in United States,

How old were these kids when the theme began a decade ago? I don't think they were of driving age in ANY country!*

*Unless she lives on a farm. 7 year olds here in the USA can legally operate farm implements on public roads, if they have a yellow triangle on the back and can reach the pedals. (This includes trucks, tractors, and harvesters.) It's actually kinda scary to think about when you see one on a highway...

Is this really the first Friends RSOTD? Could've sworn we'd had a few already.

I still have mine assembled :') honestly such a fun little vehicle. Such a pleasing shape. So much childhood nostalgia now. honestly makes me want to put some of my oldest Friends stuff on display, now that it's 10 years old. This is making me far too emotional.

Yeah. This set begins the curious Friends trait of blurring the ages of the main characters, five young people who are still school students but can also drive cars and caravans, fly helicopters, travel all over the world, and didn't one of them become an astronaut in the final year?

Strange things going on in Heartlake City.

By in Canada,

I guess you don't need operable doors when your legs are glued together at the ankles.

Maybe Huwbot dislikes Friends, even though i would have sensed 10-12 sets given all the Clikits set he does. it happened so late in the year that the old Friends got tired and were replaced by new ones. (just kidding)

By in United Kingdom,

This being Lego, with all manner of transforming vehicles, I’m disappointed that what this converts into isn’t, like, a helicopter or a boat or something

I think it's funny that the first Friends RSotD has a piece (the bucket) that originally appeared in Belville.

By in Canada,

If that's a convertible, it'd have to be a hardtop...exit's over there, right...:D

By in Canada,

I'll be real with you Stephanie; Your convertible isn't very cool.

There’s no minimum age for driving on private land in the UK. Certain restrictions apply such as having the land owner’s permission and there being no public access to the land. But as long as all the conditions are met, you can legally drive when you’re a child here.

If you’re too young - a toddler or very small child - your parent/legal guardian could get in legal trouble for putting you in danger, but at the age implied for the Friends characters, the parents/guardians would be fine.

By in Netherlands,

The way all that stuff is just precariously strewn on the back though.

Early friends sets had a long way to go. The 2012 range is a bit nostalgic because of the novelty of it. I recall seeing many reviews on eurobricks at the time of AFOLS giving the theme a chance.
What came after started to blend together for a few years. The specific subthemes gave Friends more distinction, and the post-Elves years were greater than ever before. And this year it might be the best theme lego is producing right now. Let's hope that stays for next year.

Stephanie washing her car on a Sunday morning....lovely. The first Friends set that my daughter had...what memories!! I'm sure I could still put it back together without much effort...they are not colors thay I had used for a Star Wars MOC.

I've got fond memories of this one. I bought it for my sister back in 2012, which was unusual for me given that I had practically no income at the time! I had a fun time playing with her with this one and the few other Friends sets she got early on.

I remember going to a random Walmart in Los Angeles right after Christmas in 2011 because they were stocking the Friends sets early and I really wanted to check them out. Picked this one up along with some others. Paradise is still the king, but all these years later I still enjoy this theen and have many in my collection.
