LEGO Con will not return in 2023
Posted by CapnRex101,To my surprise, it has been announced that LEGO Con will not return in 2023, despite the event's apparent success this year.
Maybe an equivalent event could occur in the future, although nothing has been confirmed currently.
Are you disappointed that LEGO Con will not return? Let us know in the comments.

Not too upset considering I only cared about Legocon for new set release images. There isn't much value besides that
I forgot this happened?
If I had to guess why, I’d wager it was too expensive and failed to reach their intended audience - likely non-AFOLs, who don’t need a con to get hype about upcoming releases.
Maybe it’s not worth the trouble since it’s mostly just people watching for the set reveals
That’s a shame - it was a disappointment in 2021 but they really knocked it out the park this year with first looks at new release sets.
Failure to understand what a "con" is.

This is my opinion. And considering. Hanging around for a few hours just to see official images an hour earlier than the general public seems like a waste.
Doesn't really work having a big launch show when you as a company release big sets nearly every two weeks and that comes with fortnightly press releases.

and they've usually been leaked in the days leading up to it anyway
Well, it was only a matter of time.
my little brother was bored watching the entire thing. kids dont like it aswell.
I never really watched it except for the new releases but I didn't hate it I just couldn't figure out who their target audience was.
“Apparent success”, it was mere meme material
Never bothered with it for many of the reasons pointed out by others.
Personally I also tend to walk the other way when I see the letters c, o and n……in that order.
Doesn’t give me a good vibe
They finally realised how ridiculous the entire thing was?
Took them long enough ahahahahah
Everyone wants to put out content but so much of it isn't worth anyone's time. What would be time worthy Lego content? I do not know. But I don't get paid to come up with those ideas. I'm open though, @Lego!
They did a much better job this past year than the first, but like many here said, it was boring and all I wanted was to see new sets anyway. If I was a kid, I do not think I would have found it entertaining either.
Spend your money on making more high quality products Lego!

With the current prices, I'm not so sure about that.
The problem with Lego Con was they released a lot of sets just before it. Everyone knew what they were going to show. IMO it should be an event to display the next year products. Something fast-paced like Apple Keynotes.
"Now we are going to show the next year Star Wars sets" and them bring the designers to explain their creative process, something like Brickset interviews. Then show a video of an actor with their minifig. Then a CGI video like the Star Wars games. Then jump to Friends and do the same. Jump to Ideas and tell how the set was chosen and bring the designer. Then present the next selected Ideas.
Jump to City and bring a famous Lego YouTuber or blogger to comment about something.
There's no need to make a party or something too big. Just show a set after another with some pre-recorded videos and interviews in between.
Wasn't the idea of LEGO Con to be a replacement for LEGO's absence at other conventions due to the pandemic? Perhaps with COVID-19 restrictions being lifted around the world, maybe enough conventions are opening up in 2023 for LEGO to come back.
Aw it was a great program to watch Disappointment
Good riddance. When I first heard the announcement I thought it was gonna have a lot of in-depth Q&A with designers, but it was essentially just a reveal for sets that were leaked 2 weeks prior.
I wouldn't mind this format if it was done every time new sets are announced, but for something that only occurs once a year I expected something bigger.
Kind of funny how little fanfare there is to the cancellation. But it's not exactly a surprise.

This is what I thought as well, they will be returning to the various Toy fairs and cons in 2023 instead
It must have cost millions of dollars (or euros, rather) to put together such an event.
It was a hundred or so people present during the show for two hours: assuming pay of 50/hour, this alone would be 10,000 in sunk costs. Hiring all the actors and actresses, video & sound equipment, preparing scripts, etc.
Also, I have been experiencing this LEGO fatigue recently. I am just not so excited about new releases as I used to. There is a big reveal seemingly every few weeks. Disregarding cost, many new models are massive and take up a lot of space. I am running out of space already. I do not want to have an extra room just for LEGO. Seems like too much.

What was the "apparent success" based on? As they are cancelling it, then I imagine they might have other feedback or measures that show it was not a success."
Based on then Press Release I guess ^^
If you’re a con-man, you regret it.
I've never watched it. The only thing I cared for were the new set announcements, but I just waited until pictures were online.
I am actually very disappointed. While much of the information presented was available from other channels, it was a unique possibility to dig in a comfy sofa, open a bag of popcorn and spend a few hours being entertained by people talking about something that I really care about. In my opinion they managed to balance the need to cater for AFOLs as well as kids (YFOLS).
If lego would premiere most or all of their sets in one event then it would something to watch. Since lego debutes something new almost every month theres just no appeal in such thing to me. But in general most of the social things lego is doing comes out kind of awkward. Their staff is rarely showman material. They would be wiser to hire an established youtuber for such shenanigans.
Shame, I enjoyed the last one.
Considering that TLC scheduled their "con" during Brickworld's biggest event of the year, I will shed no tears whatsoever if LEGO Con never happens again.
Lego needs to stick with what they know works. No apps, no reality TV shows, no comic cons, just make Lego sets, and stop making them so expensive.
Oh no! I liked LEGO Con. I shall miss it. I really enjoyed this last one. Also, the only other time I get to see Joel McHale these days is when I go to T-Mobile Park to watch the Kitties play the M's.
I think they needed a third event to really reel it in. They definitely had stuff to learn from the first event, and now there's a lot of feedback about the second. Stopping now is unfortunate.
Yay!
LegoCon was surprisingly very over-produced for what it was.
I also think it was improper to use the word "Con" for something that was just a livestream and not an actual convention. They got a pass the first year for still being in the trail of Covid. 2022 remaining a livestream essentially made it clear this was never intended to be a convention--huge disappointment and violation of expectations.
I think they tried to appeal to everyone and ended up appealing to no one. I would really like to see them do a simpler low-budget livestream continuing to reveal new sets, more targeted towards AFOLs.
A well some good things never last…
"To my surprise ..."
We sure about that one?

I know LEGO said the 2021 one was a "great success" in the title of the press release then a number of fan sites partially questioned the use of the word great.
Was there a similar post-CON press release for this years' event?"
I think the reaction to the 2022 event was relatively positive, on the whole, although that was obviously related more to sets being announced than other aspects of the stream.
Wasn't Lego Con a virtual only event that just did video press releases and a few interviews? I don't think that it mattered as all of the info from that day could be just laid out in text or youtube videos when it's ready.
I am so saddened by this news - not.
Actually, couldn't care less. To me the whole event was a complete waste of time anyway.
I remember when someone mistakened the Lego con logo to be a hint for Lego Dimensions 2 when it was first revealed. They thought the glowing colours would be the new ones for the toy tags and the Lego con logo would have been the shape of the new gateway. We later found out it wasn't Lego Dimensions 2. Maybe some other day...
The what now? Oh... that. How about lowering some prices :|

While the idea of LD2 is great, I'm trying to be realistic. If anything, it'll be a non-toy tag game but just a video game. As it won't happen, what I would like them to do is to release a digital version of the original game like "Disney Infinity" did, so we wouldn't need the disc. Or maybe even a version that doesn't need to pad, but playing like any other Lego video game.
Good to hear, it was rubbish!
@gabrisermig
I have seen 0 memes come from LEGO con, so that’s a lie.

Love the idea! Although I doubt it would happen either. It was a great game though!
Maybe it was an issue with the multiple leaks that beset both events? Oh well, I kind of liked the 2022 event, but can’t say I’m too disappointed.

That's the double-con and then tripple-con. Perhaps they finally realized this and are going to re-boot it under a new, more-realistic tag.... and that would then be the quadruple-con.
R.I.P. would-be quad-con. We barely knew ya!
Lego™ has relationships with technology as serious and lengthy as my romantic relationships when I was single. Quite the techno player they are in Billund. They're constantly jumping from one techno bed into another. For such a philanderer, they do seem to get overly emotional about the break-ups. Too much emo music methinks! ;)

So something only exists if you have seen it?
There were quite a few memes about 2021, things like skeletons in front of computers waiting for a reveal. They probably exist for 2022 too, although chances are fewer people watched it live given there would not be any original reveals as everything had leaked."
A meme isn’t strictly funny picture with some text. I watched a video about it, that defined it very well. Emplemon I believe? Anyways, it’s something that is used in a humorous manner in pop culture for example, the movie Morbius. Lego con produced lots of this form of meme, like the entire Star Wars sequence in 2021.
Not sorry. They could achieve the same customer communications with their YouTube / social media videos.
Bringing in hosts and "special guests" from around the world, writing the script, producing a live event, ramping up the servers and bandwidth, etc., all were unnecessary costs.
It’s a shame - it needed some work and maybe 40 minutes aimed at kids and a separate 10-15 for more mature audiences with maybe more designer interviews. Joel McHale was great this year but all I really gained from it was the castle reveal.
I run a site that lists fan conventions (anime, comic, horror, furry, toy, gaming, steampunk, video games, sci-fi, fantasy, etc.) around the world. I did not list Lego Con...because it was a livestreamed video. That is NOT a convention.
I enjoyed them. The reveals were fun because the designers were there to talk about them in real time. I know we get interviews/designer videos, but it felt different watching the Con. Even still, it won’t be a great loss overall, but they were fun to watch.
I forgot about it before it ever happened.
The designer interviews and set showcases were interesting and informative. All of the other stuff, I could live without. Joel McHale seemed on the verge of breaking into laughter at the ridiculousness of the whole thing. It had a very "corporate idea of fun" vibe.
