When the dog takes you out for a stroll

I swear that baby is cursed, or demonically possessed or something. That just cannot not have some extra creepy strings attached.

Gravatar
By in United States,

More demonic symbolism than The Shining.

By in Spain,

Is there any stud available?

Good heavens, what happened to that baby's hands!!

The invisible laser fence that is also keeping that dog on the blanket. And it's not even like 2001 was a "different time." That's just criminal.

Coincidence that this released three years after 3220? I think not. Those flowers and gifts clearly worked.

Anti stud on the bottom of the bottle and plate. Not sure about the dog. And there are some bar connections too.

Best Star Wars set ever!

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

The mouth says happy but the eyes reveal fear and desperation. Even the teddy bear is pleading for someone to rescue the child from the dog.

I read it as a "rescue the dog from the child" situation myself. Either way, we have a problem.

Someone chopped that baby’s hands off

By in Norway,

This looks like the set-up for one of these river-crossing puzzles:

"You need to cross a river with a vicious dog, a baby (actually an alien spy in disguise) and a basket of milk bottles, but the boat only has room for one item at a time. If you take the dog, the baby will absorb the milk bottles. If you take the milk, the dog will fulfil its duty towards Earth and eat the baby, thereby hopefully postponing the inevitable alien invasion..."

Who are the 79 monsters who admit to owning this... why? Why?!

Gravatar
By in United States,

And here I thought Lego couldn’t get any creepier…… first Lego Galidor, and now this….. 0_o

WHY ARE YOU TORTURING US, @HUWBOT ?!?! WHY?!?! XD

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ice storm blankets the area with up to 3/4” of ice, thousands of homes without power, a final call yet to be made on if our third show of the year will actually go ahead or not…and this is RSotD.

That "kid" is 20+ years old, now. Wonder what he looks like?

I think that is how the kid was made

"It contains 20 pieces and 1 minifig"
I beg to differ, Huwbot. That is no minifig. That is an abomination.

Gravatar
By in United States,

"Summer Day Out" yeah buddy you should have just stayed in.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

People may mock this set, but it introduced a lot of really useful parts that are still in use today!

Such as, uh...

...

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was 2001?!? Dear god, what was to be gained? Who approved this for sale?

These are just badly made Barbie accessories.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I know that bottle and dish got a bit of use in later sets outside Scala, been trying to work out if that teddy bear is the same as used today; think it may be too big

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I was really hoping that Huwbot was going to deliver a classic today to offset the BTS review, or even a late 90s set to laugh at, but alas…

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

'Summer Day Out'? Urgh! Take that that thing back in!!

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

Should be 18+ because of the horror effect.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not recognisably Lego!

The Umbrella retired in 2017 https://brickset.com/parts/design-58572
Dish Ø24 is still in use https://brickset.com/parts/design-6256"

Wait, the umbrella piece retired? I only have one in dark blue, but I think it is a nice piece, and it makes a much better umbrella than the 4x4 dish scalewise. Weird that it was retired...

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

I don't remember this set being mentioned when people were discussing the new Friends characters and wondering if there was precedent for characters with limb differences.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

And so, 21 years ago, a founder member of BTS enjoys an innocent picnic in the park. Who could have imagined the suffering he would go on to inflict on the world...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I would have loved this had I been about age 8 or 9 in 2001. One of my Sindy or Barbie dolls would have been very happy with her baby.

Gravatar
By in Croatia,

This looks less like Lego than Galidor... and at least as creepy.
Scala to me still means the jewelery set my sister had in 1980, like 308.

The umbrella is still in production with a new number 51489.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The teddy bear was used in the Toys-R-Us truck in 2010 but a new one was created for the series 6 collectible minifigure. That one is still in use today, mostly in the same color with the same print. It was also produced in a few other colors with different prints that were used in only one or two sets.

Thanks for that.
Soo much worse than I was expecting....

Seen pictures of Scala dolls before when the sets have come up as RSotD. don't remember them being THAT terrifying.

Wonder if it's because this one appears to come straight from the cloning vats and placed in a sterile tray for the bacta fluid to run off?

The Grand Emperor Baby requires a sacrifice!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I remember seeing this one in a catalog back in 2001. A full third of the catalog was stuff like this! But this one stood out to me as looking the least 'buildable'. It's an accessory pack, but the scale just throws you off. Later I learned that the wheels are regular system ones, and they are placed with 1x4 plates with wheel holders on the bottom.

But at the time my primary thought was: 'Hey, a dalmatian! My sister collects dalmatian figures and toys because she loves 101 dalmatians. She would probably like this at least!'

That it was not the eyes being burned out of my skull like it seems to be the case with a lot of commenters here says a lot about that year's catalogue, Scala in general, the times of 2001, and maybe the average commenter here too.

It was a different time in lego's history. I guess you just had to be there...

Gravatar

Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods?
Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn, and I dream of what I need
I need a hero!
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night!

As @paulvdb said, the teddy bear last appeared in 7848. It’s about the size as the kid in that set, which is not to say that it’s “too big”. My brother had a stuffed lion that was about the size of a St Bernard. When I was really young, my mom once brought home three stuffed bunnies of different sizes, and let me pick which one I got to keep. The smallest was almost as big as I was (and she said she was surprised that I picked the biggest one).

It uses standard 1x4 wheel bearing plates as far as I can tell. Also I always wanted those white wheels xD

Yeah, when I was about six years old my mom won for me a huge stuffed Winnie-the-Pooh in a drawing at a store, I think a Sears. It was bigger than I was not only at the time, but for several years after, while I was still growing up. I was able to take his red shirt off and wear it myself, and when I first got it the shirt was quite loose on me. Looking back I think it must have been quite a bit larger than the “real” Pooh Bear would have been, judging from his size relative to Christopher Robin in the book and the Disney film.

...but get the dog out of there first, if possible.

You grossly underestimate the persistent evil that is Spawn of My Dad!

Gravatar
By in United States,

And a good chunk of people on this site still don't consider Bionicle to be "real Lego."

Granted, there are Scala sets with more actual construction than this specific example, but if there are AFOLs that consider this to be "more LEGO" than constraction, jeez.

Gravatar

I'm going to have nightmares from seeing this.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If I encountered the components of this set in the wild (i.e. without any identifying packaging)--say in a thrift store--I suspect I would pass them by completely, so un-LEGOlike is their aggregate appearance.

Dalmatians. Just missing Trans Neon Green.

Considering Huwbot called 3220 "My Dad" that means that the baby is Huwbot.
