It’s not just a boulder… it’s a rock!

Krusty Krab pizza is the pizza for you and me!
(Spongebob is awesome... if you ignore the later seasons / last two films)

As an avid John Denver hater, this piece irks me when it's on its own.

I'll always prefer the older boulder piece, but this part does what it needs to, I guess.

What older one? This is the same as the one introduced by Rock Raiders in 1999. It just has a different number due to being transparent.

"Original" is apparently a misnomer, they were introduced at the same time, but I was speaking of the asteroid piece from the 1999 space sets and 2000 Arctic sets. I love the texture of it

By in Poland,

Such a simple piece (or rather 2 pieces for a complete boulder) yet it had so much play value in Rock Raiders sets.

By in Germany,

Does anyone know the difference between this mould and the original 1999 version (30293) from Rock Raiders/LoM/Pohatu? Bricklink seems to not differentiate between them and I don't have one of the newer parts atm. So I'm kinda curious...

ROCK RAIDERS BOULDER!!! :D

Don't mind me; that was just my favourite childhood theme, and seeing any reference to it makes me unreasonably happy :D Plus it was also used in Life on Mars and Bionicle, two other old favourites, so in my estimation that makes this (and it's other half) not only a cool part with a lot of play value, but also just a VERY GOOD PIECE in general. Lots of nostalgia here.

...Okay technically that's https://brickset.com/parts/design-30293, which hasn't been used since 2016. But it's still essentially the same piece ^^

@Atuin:
With at least a one-year gap between uses, it may have just been retired, so a new design number (and any relevant element ID numbers, like for trans-neon-orange) would have had to be assigned when it came back into production. I got a few from Pohatu, and I got all the Incredibles sets, but I don’t have time today to go dig both of them out for comparison.

What I find more interesting is that the original design number encompasses both the opaque brown from Pohatu and the Rock Raiders, but transparent colors from Life on Mars and Arctic. Those should have required different molds, and therefore different design numbers.

I was going to say that it is because until recently they use a different mould for opaque and transparent colours even for the same part. But what @PurpleDave said would indicate this wasn't the case as the old one was for both. So not sure. I do know the old and new ones are interchangeable though.

You know, as half of Pohatu's beloved sidekick, I'd really have expected some Lore™ here. We've had it for less iconic characters! Pohatu's rock was one of a kind--not one of a batch of six.
