60056 Tow Truck
Posted by Huw,
There are some sets that, when you first seem them, you know you must have them ASAP. This was one such set for me. I'm a big fan of the 'Great Vehicles', as LEGO likes to call them, and this one did not disappoint.
I'm not actually going to write much about it (given it's Christmas Eve): I'll just post some photos and let them do the talking. You'll know one way or the other whether it's a must-have once you've viewed them...

Brilliant photos!! :) Merry Christmas!
I'm totaly gonna get this. That is, if i don't get the flatbed truck for christmas!
Huw are those blue panels holding up the orange lights new?
Also, i just noticed 4th photo down, i can see a mishymash of ugly green bricks :)(!
Love this, a certain purchase for me. 2014 city sets are looking very good (even some of the rehashed police sets are quite good). I already have the race car and monster truck (available already in whsmiths for those in the UK, along with all the othe smaller sets from the wave).
^^ No, they are ancient, actually, introduced in the 80s I think for aircraft/spaceship wings.
Lovely set. I'd just like to say thank you to Huw for bringing us another year of up to date news on Brickset. Merry Christmas to you all!
I agree, Huw; this was a 'must-have' for me as well!
Perhaps the best thing about this set is it how good it looks without the stickers!
@Huw thanks!
This looks a really nice set actually, but not sure if I'll get it yet due to already owning the flatbed and the limited space I currently have.
Definitely plan to try and buy all the great vehicle range except the jet ski transporter which is just a variation of the quad bike set.
Police sets look good but I already have a lot from the 2008,2011 and 2013 themes so if I get any it'll just be one or two.
Does anyone know when it will be available for people on the Mainland in the Netherlands, Germany, ect.?
Funny how its a very similar truck and colour as seen in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer.
Fantastic photos Huw! I'm sold :-)
This style of heavy tow truck is common in North America -- I have seen many used to tow transport trucks, and here in Ottawa our city buses lol. (Would love to see LEGO make an articulated City bus!) I am already tempted to make a variant in other colours :-)
Merry Christmas! :-D
Where are the stickers? I think it comes with some pretty cool ones! :(
Great model. Likely to get almost all of the new City vehicle sets, except for the Monster trucks maybe.
Even the Octan racer is a neat little race car as well.
Great photos Huw!!!
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
^^ The stickers are printed on white which, if applied, will have peeled by this time next year.
Ya, but the stickers really complete the whole Tow Truck feel.
Looking good Huw! This is on the top of my want list. Pierre N. did a great job on this design. He was part of out LUG a long while ago before TLG took him from us lol. He always had some great creations.
Huw, sticker peeling, in my experience, is no longer an issue. It was an issue with sets circa late-90s through mid-00's or so, but they stay on crisp and easy now. I haven't had a problem with cracking stickers since my Maersk set from 2005 or so.
I totally agree, I've never heard of such a thing @M4444M44
The 2007 set's stickers still peel over time.
This is great set. Highly worth it.
It's a must have for me. I'm thinking of making one in red with the old fire department flame doors as the wrecker for my departments shop.
It is a gorgeous tow-truck. I do want it, I just never have room for it. But gosh, it's pretty.
bought one of these last week and built it up
with the grandkids was great fun and excellent value
also bought the motorhome and a few more
of the new sets
While I'm not a big fan of these "Mack" style trucks (I prefer the COE - cab over engine style trucks), I'm sure this will still make a nice addition to my city and go well with the previous tow truck. This one looks like a heavyweight, and it's perfect for towing other trucks and/or buses.
