By in United Kingdom,

Another great wave of sets.

Today has been ridiculous for good announcements.

By in Canada,

That East Palace set is insane! Love it

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The Palace and the dragon are nice, but it's not the best monkie kid wave. The mech really leaves a lot to be desired, imo.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the crab and shrimp people in 80049, and the set itself is stunning.

By in United States,

Ouch. My wallet hurts

Just you wait. We still have Creator to go through.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

The airship is cute and fun, and the palace is amazing. Decisions, decisions....

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love Mei's dragon, but that US price hurts. $75 against €53? At least Zavvi and iwoot exist.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

after a bunch of mediocre overpriced sets, this is super refreshing. Can't wait to pick up one of these, currently struggling between the Azure Lion and the Guardian Dragon, they're both incredible :0

Is that supposed to announce today too?

By in United States,

That dragon is gorgeous! Definite buy

By in Canada,

How popular is Monkie Kid in N.American or Europe, say vis-a-vis Ninjago?

Sets look great, but I have no idea what's getting traction or not. Just curious...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Crabpeople, lobsterpeople, a shady turtle guy. Love it

Gravatar
By in United States,

So many amazing sets coming this summer! Dragon of the East Palace is so fricking cool I'm speechless. I miss Atlantis and I loved Ninjago's Seabound sets, but this underwater palace blows both of those themes away!

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Those shrimps and crabs are a hoot!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

But I only have so much money and space LEGO...

Monkie kid is primarily made for the eastern market, and focuses on characters from stories and folklore, and as the US isn’t part of the eastern culture it’s not the target demographic. Thus…. The sets sold poorly unfortunately and are now Lego.com exclusive to not take up shelf space. It’s a real shame.

Ninjago on the other hand is getting a 2 baseplate wide D2C Ninjago city markets that will be revealed in the coming days, has been going on for over a decade and is now getting a soft reboot with some new characters. So yeah, Ninjago is more popular.

By in United Kingdom,

These look great! Little disappointed that the Dragon of the East Palace doesn't have a Mei though, given that is her distant family. Would have been nice to maybe get her dress from when they visited in S3.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

that dragon palace looks great but not for me and I thought the cloud airship would be bigger but the other two tho... 80047 would be an awesome float in a Chinese new years parade and 80048 looks amazing!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Um, the Mighty Azure Lion, is er... teal

Gravatar
By in United States,

Another very nice wave from Monkie Kid! It even has fair prices for most of them! Mei's dragon is probably my favorite, but the palace looks fantastic.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

More fantastic sets from the best theme of Lego today! I can't wait to get the dragon and the palace.

My hopes of seeing Lego bringing the theme to Brazil at last are really low now (it is the only theme not available here). I have to buy everything through importing, which takes some time and can be more expensive too... but it is worth the effort for such good sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Monkie Kid continues to bring us some impressive sets.

The Palace is a set where the saying goes "I Must have 2 of them!" to make a full building....

The Dragon and the Lion are also "must have them".

The others ?, maybe......

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not into Monkey Kid, and, thankfully given what's coming this summer, this wave doesn't change my mind in the least.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The crab and shrimp minifigs give off major Atlantis vibes. Not so bummed that I missed out on the lobster guy now.

I’m a way bigger fan of MK than I am Ninjago. I’ve gotten quite a few Ninjago sets but the MK theme is leaps & bounds ahead for me. The lore behind it is neat, but the sets themselves have been some of the best in house stuff in awhile.

By in Australia,

The Dragon of the East palace continues the hot streak of folklore-specific mega playsets, following in the mighty footsteps of 80024 Flower Fruit Mountain and 80039 The Heavenly Realms. I particularly like the use of those big flame pieces in dark bley to represent rocky reef, and the shrimp and crab mooks are hilarious!

The Little Mermaid clamshell is nice and all, but THIS is what underwater displays are all about!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm sorry, but part 20482 on the head of 80047 looks like the actual eye, I cannot see the printed eye anymore

Gravatar
By in United States,

They made a mech of Hulk Hogan?!!

Seriously, I have yet to figure out whether I love or hate that lion. Love the crab dudes.

I don't think it's sold IN Lego Stores anymore. Amazon has a few sets. I live in an area with many Chinese and our local Lego store doesn't carry the sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This might sound strange but does anyone know why I can't seem to buy the Monkey Kid sets from the usual high street shops, Smyth's, Argos, The Entertainer or is it just me?

Gravatar
By in United States,

80049 has part 49595 sea life in what looks like Flame Yellowish Orange (previously only in Vibrant Coral). Nice!

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

The Lion is very cool. The rest is, I have to say, disappointing. Especially the dragon. I’ve seen the series (which is great, btw!), and they’re really missing the mark, here. Mei‘s dragon is actually quite impressive, huge, to be precise. This version here is a far cry.

Gravatar
By in United States,

80047 coming in hot with a keyblade handle piece. Kingdom Hearts MOCers rejoice!

Also, 80049 with the s/o to Aquaman's homies from the Brine kingdom.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Sigh... they couldn't bring back 5956 for 80046, and 80049's characters look like something from Spongebob! Also, it seems like that set comes with Wojira from Ninjago too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I kind of assumed the Monkey Kid theme may be done. Not only is it not done, but for me there’s two excellent must have sets in this wave: air ship and dragon of the east palace!

After the first year or so most western retailers decided not to carry the range any more. (Not sure if this was encouraged from Lego itself though.) As this theme was primarily designed to appeal to the Chinese market it has not been pushed much in other regions.

My guess would be that they feel it would cannibalise Ninjago sales. I would also imagine that Ninjago is not strongly marketed in China.

By in United States,

@GreenRanger93:
Hmm, you may be right. I didn't actually check when I was at the local store Monday, but using the stock checker I can't find a single current set that shows current stock there.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Those RRPs in Euro look surprisingly fair.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the dragon but the price seems a little steep

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those crab headpieces are great

Gravatar
By in Hong Kong,

Anyone else find it funny that the azure lion is teal?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've never seen Monkie Kid, I don't own any Mokie Kid, but if there's a set with both crab people AND shrimp people, count me in!
