Oh it is great but, let me consult my wallet.

By in Netherlands,

The flower pot is worth €30-35 and only needed a €150 spend.
The Moving Truck is worth €20-25 and needs €180
Lower threshold would be nice or I'm just a spoiled brat.

Does anyone know if this is also available in store?

By in Sweden,

It's a GREAT set though, and adds a lot of content that you can install in the Jazz Club modular. Plus, all the furniture included does fit inside the truck. Probably one of my favorite GWP of all times.

The other way to look at this is they keep just re-using old promotional leftovers so they cant loose whatever they don't give away they can use again later. The difference is people may be able to get one with a lower threshold, im not sure in this case, or people may be able to get it with a different set of criteria. For me, who already has one im simply holding off my next purchase now. Would it be better if they started selling the leftovers ? So you could buy something someone else got for free (having spent a certain amount) but you can just buy that if you wanted it? If sure most of the GWP's would sell. Id certainly rather buy one from Lego than Ebay and the higher thresholds ill take buying it from Lego and saving a bit from other sites for the Lego I would have bought to justify it. I would like the house sets but I could not justify the threshold or Ebay prices.

Re-issuing promotional sets seems to be quite a recent phenomenon... coincidentally nothing at all to do with the overall price increases or the insanely high GWP thresholds.

Is this the second or third GWP that has returned this year? I remember the ambulance. Still no return of the Bionicle GWP though. My local Lego store includes GWPs after their window and offers them to people who meet the former requirements anyways, which is pretty cool. I did that to get a couple of 5005256 back in 2018

40450 Amelia Earhart Tribute has returned once or twice (and/or was available for redemption through LEGO VIP?).
I think my local store also keeps giving away GWPs until they are gone but, often, they seem to not get enough to last through a promotional period.

By in United Kingdom,

That’s annoying.
Only yesterday I placed an order which I’d held off from, hoping a new GWP would appear. Even looked online for a heads up.
Maybe I can cancel my order and place it again?

Edit- It’s in warehouse, can’t cancel.
Buggers got me this time lol

Yes, the 1st Houses of the World set has had a couple of runs.
I'm pretty sure these are pre-planned rather than Lego just using up leftovers due to their misjudgement, as some like to imagine! Seems like a good idea to have multiple runs of a GWP when different new release sets are available.

I'd be interested to know where you got those values from.

Personally, I'd value 40588 Flowerpot at £16-18 and 40586 Moving Truck at £21-23 so to me the thresholds for both seem very good value.

Send them an email. Lego has stellar customer service. Politely explain your dilemma and you never know what might happen.

Tell that to 8028. That one sporadically came back multiple times over a period of about five years, often as a freebie through LEGO.com and also as a gift through other retailers too.

In the UK, they are both selling for about £25. I guess it shows the moving truck either was not quite as popular as expected, or that they now decide to do large runs of these GWP sets and reuse them at a later date. The latter might make sense. Once the machinery is rolling doubling the size of production is not that big a deal. Especially if a value of say £25 is put on them by the secondary market. It gives another effective 15% or so discount on a purchase, combined with 5% in VIP points makes about 20% which might be enough to make others bite later in the year once prices have been established. Especially if someone was placing a £100 order anyway, adding £50 worth to get a £25 set free is worth doing.

40588 I sold them twice for €30 and 35, excluding 5 for shipment.
40586 Is more a estimation, I only saw it for that price a few times (I couldn't bother to keep track) those now still for sale are +30 but they are also being completely ignored.
And no one wants the ambulance or I should go even lower than 12,50.

I agree, these are definitely preplanned. With what feels like a dozen new products released every month on LEGO.com, it makes more sense to always have a promotion rolling. It makes me very curious if running GWPs is more efficient at selling more product than discounting products or lineups.

I will be sad if I break this awesome chain now, but I need to see both space and funds. I need to conduct some organizing at home this weekend.

By in Austria,

Honestly I'd prefer if they just allowed these to be purchased with VIP points in the rewards center, like they did with the World of Wonders. You still have to order something but the cost is just...points plus whatever you get.

Thank you for the nudge. Made contact and 1 Moving Truck on the way.
They are very good really aren’t they. We might grumble about prices here and there but they do usually win on the customer service front.

Thanks again for the advice

I imagine GWPs are much more effective than a discount of the equivalent value to them. We put more value on a GWP than it costs them to produce it. They could do double VIP points which would cost them an extra £9 off future orders on a £180 order (plus the normal £9 worth). Whereas this set gives us an apparent £25 worth now, plus £9 off future orders. I would prefer them to do 3 different GWP, one per month, and repeat them all twice giving two opportunities to get them in six months than doing 3 different GWP once every two months covering the same six months.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lego need to produce these GWPs to entice people to buy direct rather than other retailers (who regularly discount sets). There is no benefit in selling them on their own.

After Covid Lego have over-produced these sets (which isn't bad as they were selling out within minutes before), but with the sky-high prices for Lego and their constant need to keep producing multiple £100+ each month they are over-saturating the market.

But it is a free market and consumers are voting with their wallets and Lego are being left with a lot of stock that no one wants.

I have this exact circumstance. I called Lego customer service and asked if they would send me the Moving Truck as a courtesy. They instantly agreed and processed the order within 20 minutes.

Give it a shot!

Was really hoping for something new as a GWP since I already have this one. I like it but not enough to spend that much money to get another.

Agreed. I too need to save up for some of the August sets (Sonic the Hedgehog, Dreamzzz, Spider crab, etc). Quite a few upcoming sets that look amazing that I can't wait to get my hands on! That is... if I save up enough. Sigh... there's always Christmas...

For what it's worth, TLG has the estimated retail price of both of them exactly the same ($24.99 / £21.99 / €24,99)

[I tried to introduce this field to Brickset, but I was overruled, first by another database maintainer, and then by Huw himself]

Of course, that just reiterates the point: why the different minimum purchase requirements for sets with the same value?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Personally I'm just hoping for the 30657 Speed Champions polybag to appear as a GWP at the beginning of June, which they have done in previous years (as they never show up locally). And a rerun of the Spring Fun Add-on and the 2nd Houses of the World set would be handy.

Still plenty on my wishlist that either aren't currently available cheaper elsewhere, or won't ever be.

Yes, pre-orders count, but you'll only actually get the GWP when some part of the order ships (not necessarily the pre-order bit).

LEGO assigns an official value to every GWP. They can be found on LEGO's website in the item listing for a gwp. However I use Google to find the listings for gwps as they don't seem to return as search results from LEGO's own search box. GWP values are also listed on your receipt. LEGO has to assign values to gwps, one of the reasons being if you do not include the gwp with an order return, they'll charge you for it. Typical values are US$5 for a polybag set and often $20 for a boxed gwp set, with a handful of recent gwps valued by LEGO as high as $30. Aftermarket prices are usually similar but can go up to $100 for certain rarer freebies.

Not in UK they're not. Always listed as 0.00.
And I was talking about the value I assign, something I do for every set I consider, which is different than offical Lego prices.

Actually this is the first GWP that I've seen a price for on the website.

I feel like the fact that it's back means that not enough people went for it last time. Hopefully they begin taking notes, haha.
