It's always amusing to me when the RPotD is one that comes in a set I recently built. I just built 40589 yesterday.
I am too little of a MOCer to have this problem frequently, but I was just thinking "I need more of this part," recently (especially in brown), which just goes to show that this is quite the useful part.
@TheOtherMike:
I'll be ordering a few of these parts pretty soon to get that set.
I have been using this part quite a bit in my MOCs lately. I love it!
Sure it’s kind of a niche part, but once you start using it, you really appreciate its value.
A 2x2 plate with a butt mark after being used as a cushion for too long.
Is a 2x2 plate with oxidised knobs next?/
No wonder I get confused about what's a modified plate vs modified tile...on here this part is a plate, but on Bricklink it's categorized as a modified tile.
Just used some of these in the Mickey Brickheadz a few days ago.
The obscurities of Lego naming conventions are always very amusing.
Not sure if I think this one is preferable over "Plate AxB with C studs" or just "Jumper Plate" (although Jumpers do have an actual offset to the grid).
Has anyone mentioned yet, that this part does not have a groove, like tiles and other stuff, because it can be removed by a brick separator? It gives it a few advantages over usual tiles, when creating smooth surfaces.
Also this part reminds me a little of the Braille bricks.
So useful, I like it a lot.
The Flat Hippo Head is one of my favourite pieces

Sure, it's a POOP, but I don't mind POOP so much. Most plates (and bricks) we use are also POOP - that big 32x32 plate you just built your latest masterpiece on, well, you could have constructed that plate out of 1,024 1x1 plates. But you didn't, because you're not an animal.
"
What 32x32 plate? LEGO don't make them.
But the argument shows why we need larger parts. Any brick's volume could be made from 1x1 plates, so a 1x4 could be made from 12 plates. But that has no integrity, it is really just the equivalent of 4 1x1 bricks. Some larger parts are necessary to hold them together to act as a single brick. I've used this part in the past to create an overhang where smaller parts would not have worked.
Hi, I’m new here, whenever RPOTD comes, I like stating my most recent set that contained one of those pieces
So, my most recent set with part 33909 is set 71791: Zane’s dragon power spinjitzu race car
I’m pleased to say I have done my bit to increase the number of this part owned by members, by getting a couple of handfuls of these from the pick a brick wall in the Lego store I visited today
This part in black is in 6 sets I own, 2 of which I (finally) built today.
Always nice to see some coincidence and attribute mystery and meaning to it.
I'd say its a plate, not a tile. Not only does it not have a groove, but tiles don't have studs. As for the POOP, I consider this one as adding value. Most of the POOPs of this size do. Redundant POOPs are the large ones used in 4+ sets.
