An attractive set but not necessarily an improvement on the original
- Beautiful plumage
- Fictional colour scheme
- Missed opportunity to do a scarlet macaw
The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.
Last year LEGO released recoloured versions of two of Creator sets -- Mighty Dinosaurs and Fiat 500 -- as an experiment in a few markets. It was presumably deemed to be successful because this year two more, this and 42162 Bugatti Bolide Agile Blue, have been produced and are being distributed worldwide.
The original parrot, which I reviewed in March, is very attractive, and this one is too. My only complaint really is that it's a fictional colour scheme, and it's a missed opportunity to model perhaps the most beautiful parrot of them all, the scarlet macaw.
There are a few recoloured parts in the set, including the Technic bush and connector on the legs, appearing here for the first time in bright purple.
The colour swaps have extended to the flowers as well as the birds.
"Who's a pretty boy!"
If you have the blue and yellow one you will most likely want this one as well, and perhaps those who don't think that one is colourful enough will buy this one instead.
One thing's for sure, recolours like this are a cheap and relatively easy way for LEGO to get another set on the shelves and I guess that's why they are appearing.

Definitely should have been red, even as a nice kickback to the original Lego parrot.
Agreed that not doing scarlet was a missed opportunity. Otherwise this is a very lovely recolor.
I love the pink color scheme. It’s fun and unique. Sometimes seeing things in an odd color helps spark creativity in children.
Must have been one hell of a party when this and the Modern Art set were thought of!
I love the new colours, very vibrant and definitely appealing especially for kids I reckon
But I do agree that it was the perfect opportunity for a scarlet macaw indeed, that would have made perfect sense !
'Ruffle a few feathers' lol
I mean, this *is* a scarlet macaw, just stylised in a pastel colour palette. It's got the distinctive red-yellow-green-blue plumage on the wings, just hue shifted a bit. It's clearly deliberate because it's not just a straight 1:1 colour swap from the original, just look at the head.
Ah! A Norwegian blue, they have such beautiful plumage... to bad mine's pining for the fjords!
For some reason, I feel like I should be drinking a Red Bull.
Now that's what I call a Pink Parrot!
As nice as these are the only theme I’m interested in seeing a colour swap line of sets is speed champions, I’d love to get different colours of cars.

Aww... 'ees just resting. Or, perhaps ypu stunned 'im?
I probably wouldn't buy 2, Great changing colors around though. For this set it works nice...
I might changed my mind 2 look nice together
a scarlet macaw great..
I was thinking about maybe getting the blue one, but when I heard a pink parrot was coming out, it went straight onto my wanted list. I eagerly waited to see what a pink parrot would look like. It does not disappoint. It truly is a "pretty bird". Thank you for reviewing it, and showing them together, now I want both of them.
They did one partial recolor back in Bionicle G1, 8942 and 8942-2. The yellow one was, if I'm remembering correctly, a target exclusive.
@Murdoch17: So you're saying it's an ex-Lego set?
These recolors are IMO a great idea for Creator 3-in-1. You don't have to buy multiples of the exact same set to have the different builds and the same time.
You can also mix-and-match parts/colors more easily than hunting around in your collection.
All I'm gonna say is, I didn't want to do this.
I wanted to be...
a lumberjack!

He's a lumberjack and he's ok,
he sleeps all night and he works all day...
Unfortunately Lego really has a fetish at the moment for doing things in stupid colours instead of the proper colours. For those of you that like this, tell me what is wrong with a scarlet (red) macaw? As said above, that would be both a proper representation of a real life bird which is great, and also a nice homage to the original Lego parrot piece.
Or a Land Rover in basically any colour other than flame yellowish orange, like dark blue and white or sand green and white like the larger set?
I bought the first bird set because of this recolor.
