So during my teens and early 20’s I collected LEGO Speed Champions alongside my friend, therefore it was a goal of mine to one day design a set for LEGO Speed Champions. On top of that, since I was a child I have been a huge Aston Martin fan. I loved the DB7 + DB9, and now they’re in Formula One, one of my passions. So when I was asked to do this set as extra work, there was no way I could say no. I was responsible for the rear of the F1 car and the Safety Car. I wanted to create a design that was both complex, but stable. Luckily the team is full of fantastic designers who sparred with me until we got the right solutions. Thankfully Aston Martin were also happy with the designs too. I can’t wait to pick one up for myself at the store, another full circle moment in my time designing LEGO sets.

Toad’s Garage was a wonderful experience to design. It was one of those sets where everything just worked during the design process. The LEGO Super Mario team is home to some of the most talented designers that I have ever worked with, so the whole experience was full of learning.
The concept model was visually very different, a lot less colour. From the start I knew I wanted to create a bright colour scheme to fit into the Super Mario theming, the final blue/yellow/white was inspired byToad and his kart in the games.
The car is also one of my favourites from the games. It meant that I had a personal interest in getting it right and hopefully I did it proud!

My favourite part of the model is the small engine and horn that can be removed from the pit and added onto the car. We wanted to add customisation and this was a way create a physical version of the digital changes produced by the Tags.

I hope you like it, plus the rest of the Mario Kart line in which I assisted on the design with the rest of the team.

I spent the entirely of my 2023 briefs trying to make display models with more functions, this one was no different. The idea came from a discussion about Quebecois Xmas movies with a designer from Quebec. There were other ideas but this one suited best for the brief.
During design I wanted to make sure it had the turning function on the front wheels, trying to get this to work whilst making it stable for play was a difficult task, but that’s why we iterate. Eventually with help from my colleagues we found a solution.
The colours are intended to be reminiscent of what you might see in a Christmas movie. The hope is that people will build this to complement their Winter Villages!

This set had a quick turnaround but I was keen on getting the two functions into it, despite it being smaller than the original Steamboat. During university I studied the animation for my course, so I was personally very eager to be a part of a new release. Originally there were no planned functions, but I felt that would have been a missed opportunity, so I worked up to the last day to get both functions included. It was worth the effort, it looks great and functions well. I hope you manage to get one during the GWP window!

This was my first project working outside my usual team. It was great fun and a different challenge. Our main goal here was to bring builds that could fit into your LEGO city. So the tree slots right into the space in some of the new house and apartment sets. The skiing snowman would be perfect to take a run down the recently released snow ramp building. And of course we wanted to bring Mrs. Claus into the mix, as usually it’s only Mr. Claus who gets the attention.
