First picture of the UCS Sandcrawler
Posted by Huw,
Flickr user kjavis88 has posted the first image of the UCS Sandcrawler which may be released to coincide with the May the Fourth promotion this year. The picture has been taken from a book, believed to be the revised edition of the Dorling Kindersley Star Wars Visual Dictionary.

Seen this, looks very nice! Hopefully the Jawas come with capes!
Pretty disappointing for a UCS. Looks like a playset.
It's probably only us AFOLs who are calling it a 'UCS' model.
Guess that cuusoo project wasn't in vain after all.
Play set or not, Ill take one... I hope the interior is detailed... I would like to see say 6 jawas come with though..
Set number 75059 according to the box in the bottom right, so probably not UCS as they follow the 10xxx series.
Wasn't there mention of a UCS Slave 1 for this year? Perhaps it is that which will be the UCS for the year.
So maybe this is the reason the Cuusoo project never passed review, wonder about the Space Marine one.
Wow, that looks massive :P
Anyway, it isn't worth UCS
A bit sad that the yellow cockpit lights are just plastered on the side of it, wish we got some trans yellow windshields for Blacktron MOCing :)
But that would make it a lot bigger...
Initial impression is that this looks good. Slightly concerned by the price rumour. Def not a UCS set but another great set following the ewok village. Slave I will be the UCSreleased this year. The sandcrawler won't be as popular with kids as the ewok village
Agreed that it doesn't really look like it'd be a UCS set, more like one of the really big, pricey exclusive sets a la Ewok Village and so on. Either way, looks good.
New Owen Lars, that's pretty cool, but not digging those new Jawas. The eyes look too big and they don't have capes.
Looks a lot like the first one except the cockpit. Why they didn't put capes on the jawas is strange.
Looks great, though I have to agree with krollins, the Jawas don't look top notch.
Pretty disappointed- I was really holding out for a proper UCS version, but it will be another few years (if ever) now that they have released this one. I'm with Legozebra- the cockpit lights are horrendously tacky, and where are the Jawa capes? The eyes are way too big. But, on the up side, at least the new Owen Lars figure is pretty cool.
I'm blown away by this Sandcrawler. It is definitely much of an improvement from the original. I don't have the budget for this, but if I could find some way to get it, I would. The jawas look good, but Owen Lars looks GREAT! Not to mention the hoversled vehicle. Also, plate construction looks ways better than bricks. I cannot wait to see more of the set, and official images.
This looks like it'll be really good. I'm not sure how the Dictionary works (as in, if it had a UCS set would it show the display plaque?), but no display plaque in sight, so I'm assuming not UCS. Whether it is or not it looks like a solid set, appropriately large too considering how small the figs look. Hopefully I can scrape together the money for this one...
I don't know how anyone could imagine we'd be getting a UCS version - at today's prices, £500 at least of reddish brown brick with a few flecks of dark orange and tan would have sold to a few enthusiasts on here and nobody else. LEGO might do fan service better than most companies, but they're still a business.... Slave 1 far more likely for the UCS treatment.
On the basis of this picture, the Sandcrawler model we look to be getting is better than I expected, UCS or not.
Personally, I'm hoping for a UCS A-Wing--it's the only alphabet fighter that hasn't yet gotten the UCS treatment. As impressed as I was with the Cuusoo sand crawler, I can't say I ever would have bought one--it's just not a very pivotal part of the story. The A-Wing, on the other hand, took out a Vader's flag ship.
Looks like it comes with three jawas and uncle Owen. With a set number of 75xxx I don't think it's a UCS set but maybe a big play set in the $2-300 range.
I like the treads on the original better. The inverted 2x2 dish is way better than simply the 2x2 round tiles. Cockpit on this one looks better. Cockpit windows on original were better. Definitely a no buy for me and a let down as I was really hoping for UCS, but I do appreciate the article!
To be honest i like the original better als far as i can compare them.
An dat that price range i would expect a UCS version.
Looks better than the 2005 version. Its not something even if I was a diehard SW fan, I wouldn't even buy it.
Those Jawas are an instant frontrunner for worst minifigs of 2104... what were they thinking?
The set itself looks worse than the 2005 one - which was actually layers and layers of solid bricks, not just big plates to make up the walls.
The interiors may save it, however at the moment it looks like this years AT-AT - a worse version of the original.
One thing that could add heaps to this set (other than great interiors) is if you get a Bantha with it. That would be superb.
Got the old one; pretty content with it. It's something that people who didn't get the first one should get if they want a Sandcrawler, but aside from new pieces and a design upgrade, what will make the set are the play features and more importantly the minifigs. Right now, since there is only one picture, I count a total of 3 Jawas like the last, an Owen Lars, and then I can only assume that there may be only 5 droids, two of which would be R2-D2 and C-3PO, but then again, the Ewok Village came with 16 minifigs, so maybe there will be a version of all the droids in the line up, including 2 or 3 that didn't come with the first one. But then again, some sets that a redesgned this year that are similar in price and size come with less minifigs than previous versions. We'll just need to wait for more pictures.
I am unimpressed. The cockpit looks really bad. Will probably only get it on a heavy discount.
Bycougars, the world is so small) I am glad you like my project!
It can be easily identifiable that this set is a playset, and not a UCS. The UCS this year is presumably the 'rumored' Slave 1.
Looks like a good minifigure scale vehicle, but by no stretch of the imagination could it be thought of as UCS.
With the use of plates instead of bricks there'll be about 1200 pieces which for me puts into the same size set/scale as the second Tantive IV...still very nice though :-)
As loads of people are already saying, it's blatantly not UCS, it looks really good and infinitely better than the primative 2005 version, and the eyes on the Jawas do look a bit too big. I'm not sure there's too much we can tell from just this picture!
I do think "worst figure of 2014!" is a bit OTT though, Bricklink some old heads or get some black ones and some yellow paint if you're that bothered. Slightly off eyes and no cape hardly make them the worst.
And what's wrong with the styling and the cockpit? It's how all vehicles like this have been done since 2009 and is a vast improvement on solid walls of bricks for all sorts of reasons. The cockpit looks fantastic to me, even if we do have to pretend the windows work! :P
Pretty disappointed with this :( I've been wanting a new sandcrawler for years, it doesn't look like too much of an improvement on the original. The most disappointing feature is the lack of cockpit windows. The trans yellow 1x2s look like an afterthought. I *almost* would have preferred stickers for the windows as the original had. Too bad, since there was so much potential here.
too sad to see it.
A Tusken Bantha would have made this set in my opinion. Would have really given it something unique.
Since actual light up eyes is not an option on the Jawas, Lego has chosen to oversize them to make them stand out. A reasonable compromise I feel. As for lack of capes, Jawas never had them in the films.
^Oh yeah! That's what we should be measuring against! ;)
I googled Jawas straight away to remind myself how they actually looked in the films, but the eyes did always look pretty small on film.
And hey, if you want a cape I'm sure you can get plenty on eBay!
I can't tell the difference between these Jawas and the one I've already got - apart from the obvious cape being missing?!
Perhaps the minifigures aren't the finished article? Originals used so DK could get some pics done for the book?
What would make it perfect would be if they designed it with Power Functions upgrades in mind. Like they do with some trains and technic sets.
My prediction. 8 maybe 9 figs. 3 Jawa's. Owen Lars, Luke (maybe poncho Luke?), R2D2, C3PO, R5D4, 3B6-RA-7, plus a few brick built ones. Luke is the only one I would call questionable. He might be in the new DK book that the picture is from.
Are those new 3x3 plates with two rows of three studs on the forward side?
It wouldn't be too challenging to add power functions. Haven't seen the movie for a while but steering front and rear would make some sense....mind, adding a servo motor for steering up front could be tricky with the loading bay up front too!
Although I don't have the original, I've been looking at pics and the building instructions for the old one and this new crawler looks so much better.
^^No, they're the 2x3 wedge/wing plates put next to each other, on the largest zoom you can see the diagonal join between them.
I understand why people think it doesn't look great but just compare it to this: http://brickset.com/sets/10144-1/Sandcrawler
I mean the windscreens are stickers for God's sake!
I know they do this to keep the number of parts down and probably for strength, but I just don't like the incorporation of all the flat plates to make up the sides. Lego seems to do this on everything large now.
With you all the way @09holded! As much as this one isn't what people hoped for I just can't believe anyone could possibly think the old one looks better!
I don't own the original. I may/may not buy this. But I think this is loads better than the original. It captures the shape a lot better. The exterior looks more wind ravaged than the bricks upon bricks.
The Jawa's eyes are a bit larger, but it adds to the "glow" I think. The old eyes seem too small. Looking at pictures of the films, they come off as larger to me. But I'm not a diehard fan so I won't argue other people's viewpoints.
In my opinion, this is a top notch playset in terms of scale and shape. I don't know how the interior will be, so I'll wait to see that and the price before I consider buying anything. I think if I was a diehard fan, I would pick this up in a heartbeat. But then again, if I was a diehard fan I would have to cut out ALL other LEGO shopping to be able to afford the variety SW offers.
Another UCS Sandcrawler? Hmm. Very mixed about this. I know Lego is fond of re-issuing sets, but I think the UCS sets should be exempt from that.
I' m a kfol and I think its a ucs.
