Bricktober sets revealed

Posted by ,

Neonape has found images of the four Bricktober exclusive sets which will be available from Toys R Us in the US, and Canada (I believe), this October. The sets are being referred to as 'Mini Modulars', though unfortunately they are on a different scale to the previously released 10230 Mini Modulars.

Based on previous years we can assume that there will be one set available for each week of 'Bricktober', and that the sets will be free with a qualifying purpose - probably a $60 spend on LEGO.

You can see images of all four sets after the break, or head over to the Brickset Flickr Stream.

Thanks to MINI-FIG-HUNTER and Lind_Whisperer for letting us know.

I really hope we’ll have them in Canada too!

By in United States,

The instructions are on Lego.com numbers 40180 to 40183

By in United States,

Wow, those are incredibly intricate despite being very small. I'm impressed!

By in United States,

Wow! These don't suck for a change!

They aren't worth $50-$60 being wasted at TRU though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does anyone know if these can be purchased ala carte or do they have to be purchased as part of TRU's silly promotion? I'd rather get screwed all at once rather than come back week after week and get screwed.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

What a shame making them exclusive to the US.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The last building could be a school, court house, city hall, or a museum. :)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Noooooo, why is this Bricktober stuff US exclusive. I've never seen anything like those in Germany! I hope they change it for this year... But better not have my hopes up too high... So eBay it is.

By in United States,

You normally can't buy them because they usually run out. However if you have a few stores around and they have extras they sometimes let you buy them, or get a different week. However that's hugely YMMV.

By in United States,

@The Green Brick Giant: Thanks for your reply! Quite frankly: This is gonna suck! :/ These compliment the Mini Modulars quite well and I'll need them all in the worst way possible.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Thankfully the instructions are already on Lego.com so I don't have to worry about how I would come by buying them. It's too bad they are not in scale with the existing Mini Modular set, but they look like they could be modded to fit.

By in Spain,

These vehicles are awful.

By in United States,

I must be daft because these look terrible to me. The colors look mish-mashed. The builds look hurried. Plus they are on a different scale to the official Mini Modulars, so they won't even fit in with them.

Plus, the expense needed to get these "free" is way more than what it would actually cost you to build these. I bet I could piece them together with my current collection at no additional cost. But I won't.

And YMMV is very true. I went in on a Sunday (starting day of the promotion) and they were already sold out of the minifigure pack. They either are a hot item, or they just didn't get very many in. Either way, I was bummed. I think it had a black falcon figure or something.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They're nice! I can see why some people would want them so much.
But...
WHAT is going on with the scale of that fire hydrant? It would probably have been better left out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Interesting but yeah, definitely NOT worth wasting money at TRU for. I'm sure these could easily be cobbled together from one's own collection with some substitution.

Give me a call when there's an actual modular pizzeria though...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

These may be some of next year's Modulars, only in "Mini" scale... What a thought!

By in Germany,

@Matthew: it's neoape, not neonape. ;)

By in United States,

My local ToysRUs never seems to have stuff like this when they're supposed to. Really annoying not being able to count on getting them even if I am willing to waste money there.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

How annoying

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Plain awful and horrible.

The TRU thing, that is, not the lovely sets.

And knowing the shipping costs and the taxes on all things US, even getting these off eBay or BL is not an option. It'll be far cheaper to build my own LEGO factory to produce these from scratch.

What are TLG even thinking.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, these aren't Mini Modulars, they're Micro Modulars! :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

They'll make a nice display piece. My Toys R Us is about 15 mins away, but I'll try to get them all. I hope they're no more than $10. Those 1x2 trans clear plates underneath the vehicles are strange. I'll definitly be taking them off.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Spending $60 at TRU shouldn't be too hard. Just buy a normal $30 set and TRU will charge you $60!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Might I make a suggestion for those who want the promos, but don't live in the U.S.?

Someone should start a forum thread for people who will swap the Toys 'R Us promos in exchange for the new Shell wave, which won't be released in the U.S.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are definitely not worth the trouble of chasing every week, but I really don't like anything that is not mini figure scale anyway.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I'd really prefer a polybag instead.

Gravatar
By in United States,

At our TRU, these will get advertised to get people into the store...then when you show up the clerk will tell you they only received 5 from headquarters and they're gone. I've tried chasing these deals a couple times over the past years, but it's NEVER worth the trip...EVER.

By in Netherlands,

A Theater, Town Hall, Fire Station, and a Pizza Place... We have 3 out of 4, so does that mean we can expect a Pizzeria as the next regular modular?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I doubt we will get a pizza place right after we just got a food place.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm glad I don't want these. The really tiny scale just looks odd. And to have to make such a large purchase every time to get them, not worth it at all IMO.

Gravatar
By in Viet Nam,

I think that this series will include a fire station, a pizza place, a school and a cinema

Gravatar
By in United States,

What is the part on either side of the stairs on the town hall model? (Looks like a tiny gray frog to me.)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

These vehicles are pretty ugly. But then I guess it is quite hard to build something legal on this scale. The buildings look cool though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not great set, terrible delivery method.

Is anyone else sick of this exclusive idea!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

These sets appear to be in scale, or close enough to, the toys included in the winter village sets as well as the advent calendars. (RC excavator and firetruck)

Could they find use as a 'playset' type of model; placed next to a Christmas tree with a kid or two playing with the vehicles?

I think in that application, the scale would be great! Look at the size of a child minifigure, now imagine having a fire hall 'that big' to play with when you were a kid!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

After looking at the images, my 7-year-old decided to just start building his own, starting with the pizza place. Some replacement pieces needed, but I think he did a good job.

By in United States,

^I knew it could be done. The person that designed these sets must have just been collecting a paycheck. They don't look good. And a 7 year old can recreate one that easily...

And people are willing to pay the overpriced TRU prices on this? Sometimes they are MSRP, and most of the time they are not. I'd be surprised if they still have MSRP when this promo hits. OR they will have certain themes excluded like they always do.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I think these are a tad better than last years mostly BAMF styled collections. I'm undecided though if I should pick these up for myself, or for investment purposes because after all it appears not many are thrilled with them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I may be in the minority, but I happen to like these. It's about time they did something different for Bricktober. Maybe these miss the mark for some, but I think this is a move in the right direction. TRU usually offers some sales for Bricktober as well and it seems like they have been sticking closer to MSRP on many items. Unless I have a coupon to bring it down and it's a hard to find item, I won't buy anything over MSRP from TRU.

Gravatar
By in United States,

OK, now that I can finally see them, these are really quite deserving of a "what were they thinking?" The modulars themselves appear highly unrealistic simply because they're so set back from the front of the plate that if these were real, there would only be half the building there. Not to mention little to no resemblance to the modulars these may or may not have been based off of. The vehicles look really lame, the fire hydrant is just a face-palm, and the digital image of the fire station has been modified in such a way that just looking at the ugly Technic connectors makes it look like they're sticking out of a 1x3 Technic brick, even when there is an obvious four-stud-long space right above them!! Get these monstrosities away from my Mini Modulars!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I believe in Canada that one had to spend $75 to receive their promotional item. Last year Toys"R"us had nothing on for deals either, so I'm glad I didn't commit to putting together a purchase.

I have no expectations that a discount will exceed the usual 20%. If anything does go for 50%, it's usually something neither they (Toys"R"us) nor I want.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Saw a report from someone who works at Toys R Us implying that these are comming to Australia (or rather that they are showing up on the TRU systems as comming to Australia)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Available in Australia at TRU. $14.99 each or one free with purchase of $100 worth of (overpriced) Lego. Like the US, TRU sells Lego above RRP and give 'hot' prices. Their 'hot' prices are RRP.

Great business model.
