Hooooo boy, gonna be hearing alot of angry youtube videos about this one.
While I think this is a neat thing and I like it, it's not really a good GWP to go with the Venator, especially since we just got the a really lovely GWP to go with the new Gringotts bank. And while still alot, their prices only differ by 200usd.
Nope, that's pretty lame. But at least I don't have to worry about making any orders that qualify for it. I'll wait for the October double VIP points.
Sometimes you wonder why companies make the decisions they do.
You can tell it's the same cheap cardboard box from the last star wars gwp coin too...
Honestly I'm glad it's lame, I wasn't going to afford the venator anyway, so at least I won't feel worse about not getting it.
Anakins Lightsaber would have been cool. A mini side build of the bridge. Something... anything... as long as its Lego related. this doesn't count.
I'm impressed that @CapnRex101 manages to sound neutral if not upbeat in breaking this GWP news to an audience that's obviously going to hate it.
Pass. I wasn't interested in the UCS Venator to begin with and this doesn't change my mind. A keychain might have been cool or just about anything else.
Things that have points: needles, arrows, compasses.
Things that don't have a point: this.
My only opinion is that it’s a failure if it’s meant to entice people to buy the set, and not much of a reward.
I do actually quite like novelty GWPs like this as an alternative to bricks. Not interested in this particular one as it's Star Wars.
Hoping that the other much more interesting rumoured GWP(s) also appear at midnight..... Order finger poised!
I am clearly not the intended target (I love SW just like the next guy but I do not feel an urge to own everything SW) but on looking at this I was trying to put in words how I feel about it.
I was thinking, I want this just as much as I'd like to have a bag of turd. Then I thought, a bag of turd could reasonably be used as fertilizer so all is not lost. So I reframed it as: i want this just as much as a bag of carpet dust. (I could not think of any other use for that and really a nuisance to own at all).
I'm very happy that I don't 'need' this and somehow sorry for SW fans. At least they won't have to compete with me to get it - I will steer clear of this GWP.
Does anyone know the exchange rate for Republic credits into dollars or euros? This might be a substantial GWP after all...
E
I…just want the credit. Not the patches, not the Venator (though it does look nice), just the LEGO-issued coin.

Agreed, not every promo needs to be a set. I've enjoyed most of these kind of promos.
This GWP announcement is sponsored by the letter "E", the word "EXCLAIM", the number 5, (E is the fifth letter of the alphabet after all!) and by Professor E. Gadd from the Luigi's Mansion games.

The GWP to LEGO Harry Potter Gringotts Bank is worthy of a UCS set.
This Star Wars GWP, is absolutely neither worthy of the cost of this UCS, nor the fanbase it was made to impress.
Just give AFOLs (kids too, who don’t find it “tricky” lol) the karma for Captain Rex or better yet… The Clone Wars version of Anakin Skywalker, in armor, with a mini build of the bridge from HIS Venator Star Destroyer that Admiral Yularen and Captain Rex could also be displayed in.
No thanks.
If it's a cool set it should have been available at retail, if it's something else it should have been a cool set.
Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
I like the credit chip, that's fun, but the figure cut outs are.... Well I'm not sure who they are for. They're oddly childish for something that comes with a set that expensive.
When Captain Rex didn't come with a fabric kama, but was *made* out of fabric.
It's like seeing the pencil-line kama all over again. This won't make me buy on Day 1.
Lego, this is not the way.

It's not. "Republic Credits are no good out here. You need something more real."
I genuinely do not know what I’m looking at.

That's the power of free sets I guess. The feeling that you have to act positively because it was free
"Clone Wars E?" What happened to Clone Wars A-D? And I'm happy to skip this GWP while waiting for 2x points

I try to remain neutral when reporting news, so the comments determine the direction of response.
In this particular case, I find the promotion very underwhelming. I think something like an accurately scaled Arquitens-class Light Cruiser would have been ideal, matching the style of 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer. That would measure 31cm in length and seems realistic for a gift-with-purchase to me.
Alternatively, a Consular-class Cruiser with some smaller vehicles could have worked.
At least now I don't have to feel bad whatsoever about not buying the set during the GWP window. For what is one of my most anticipated sets, this is possibly the most surprisingly disappointing GWP I've seen LEGO do.
I don't know what's happening at the Star Wars team or at TLG. I feel as they don't want to maximise the premium feeling even at premium-priced sets, like the lack of printed pieces, in Rex's case cloth kama, and/or something more rewarding GWP. This one is something I would imagine getting for Insider points and this way it cozld be a nice addition to the Venator if you want. At least Technic 1:8 cars get the unique box and all-printed pieces.
I’m clearly in the minority because I love this GWP. It’s unique, still related to the set and not something that people will get up in arms over not getting. There’s few things in this hobby worse than when LEGO throws out exclusive minifigures as GWP, it just fuels the secondary market. This is the kind of thing people used to ask for when they were doing exclusive minifigures, now that it’s here you all hate it. If you guys keep complaining they’re just going to lock the cool figures behind a paywall again and you’ll be wishing for GWP like this.
I sort of like it, but not as a GWP for a set like this. A 650 euro set should feel exclusive (you are paying a lot of money for it). A non-throwaway GWP most certainly helps with that. As does printed tiles instead of stickers and the bloody kama for all I care (people make too much of a fuss about that, but it is really easy for Lego to do).
Throw in a mini-scale Tantive or something, printed tiles and a kama and people are wow-ed instead of meh-ed.

Ps. Just followed the link on the Lego site for the GWP. The first customer comment is a blinder.
"This GWP is too good, it needs to be sold on its own! This is just a tactic to get us to spend! This GWP sucks!"
"This GWP is lame and undesirable, it doesn't make me want to consoom! This GWP sucks!"

I think what people want is that sweet spot somewhere in the middle of those two extremes.

This GWP is apparently not available any more in a few regions. For all its real or perceived flaws (or none at all depending on the point of view), it looks like there are a lot of people liking it! (And it's all great for those who do - the product is for them.)
Imagine being one of those social media influencers who spend $650 just to get these three exclusive patches so they can brag about it to make themselves feel good about themselves.
This is my vote for the worst GWP in Lego history. It’s not even as good as getting one of those $5 polybags that are sold at Target a few months after the GWP period ends. o_O
