Mini Steamboat Willie coming to shopDisney

Posted by ,

In a surprising turn of events, it has been revealed on social media that 40659 Mini Steamboat Willie will be free with any purchases of $150 or more on the shopDisney website in the US, starting on October 15th - the day before Disney's 100th anniversary.

It is unknown if this offer will apply to all regions or how long it will run for, although the set is expected to be available on LEGO.com around October 23rd.

What do you think of this unusual development? Are you hoping to acquire this set? Let us know in the comments below!

I was hoping to get this set. I hope it’s still coming to Lego.com on the 23rd.

Call me uneducated, but I had never heard of a shopDisney website before.
Shrug.

mini set compared to 21317"

I can second @Sandinista here.
It doesn't look much smaller than the original at first glance, and definitely doesn't feel "mini". Especially compared to the Mickey minifig it seems positively huge.

It's just DisneyStore.com They changed the name a few years ago FOR WHATEVER SILLY REASON and now it's the only place to buy Disney merch (made by Disney themselves that is, not like Mattel or Hasbro or, obviously, Disney LEGO sets heh) since they closed all their brick and mortar stores : (

I was going to get some LEGO to get this set but now I'm thinking maybe there's something from Disney Store I'll want instead. Decisions decisions...

By in United Kingdom,

ShopDisney is like ShopLego, but different because it has decent discounts from time to time. 20% of UCS for example.

Which funnily enough is the exact opposite of what happened at LEGO. And yet the complaining is comparable, only the other way around. There's just no pleasing everybody :-)

It's a debate whether to buy from Gisnep or Legos.

Funny. Anyway, it sounded plausible :-)

So, I hope the Lego Store price remains the expected $100. I was punting on getting my Marvel and Star Wars Advent Calendars until this becomes available. And Amazon is apparently running the ACs at a discount right now, so I'm going to be annoyed if I miss that for a sale that doesn't come.

Is this the first time Brickset has reported on anyone other than Lego doing a GWP?

ToysRus? think they used post bout gwp
..............Still probably do, but U.S. doesn't get them (bricktober sets with purchase)
..............my opinion not as good anymore since went to (vignettes?)
The 4 pack figures were alot better. (example 2017 Bricktober Limited Edition Set 5004939)

Target had 4 pack figures in cube box, don't remember if was GWP.

There's something comical about that set being closer to the size of the original IDEAS submission for the ginormous set that came out a few years ago.

As much as I love Disney Lego, this seems kind of weird since it’s sort of in between a small scale and the regular size from several years back. Kind of like a failed design or something.

By in United States,

So I mentioned above that I was planning to use the Star Wars and Marvel Advent Calendars to get myself to the GWP threshold for this.

Then I went to a local Walmart, and they had this year's ACs for $20 clearance. So that's kind of throwing my plans off.

Nice. I'm still debating whether I want to get the Marvel or Star Wars calendars if I see them at that price. The cheapest I have ever seen is $10 off, and it's not worth it at that price.

The Walmart near me never seems to have any good clearance, Clarence. I did score some good Costco deals including ACs at $25.

No doubt.

Anytime I think I have enough/too much Lego, the real world intrudes and insists I get more and bury my head in bricks.

Roger, Roger.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am told via a friend who does a lot of bargain hunting that Walmart clearance is determined by the store manager. One store's clearance is absolutely not guaranteed to be another's.

Still, I was shocked, utterly shocked, to find three large stacks of 2023 Harry Potter, Marvel, and Star Wars ACs for $20.00, marked down from $45. They should only have been out for six weeks. Maybe the manager saw them having moved zero units since August and decided they should go, ignoring that they're really a hot November item.

By in Austria,

Considering we were expecting 90€ threshold for the Pirates GWP and 130€ threshold for this (judging by the conversion rate) and the Pirates GWP requires 100€ instead, I'm expecting this GWP to be 150€ on LEGO's website as well.

It'll be a pass for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It would save me money if it's not on Lego's website. I already have the Steamboat Willie set from 2019. I'm not gonna go out of my way on the Disney Store that's for sure.
