40659 Mini Steamboat Willie has been added to LEGO.com, giving a better look at the upcoming promotional set and its functions.
The set is expected to be available on LEGO.com starting on the 23rd of October, but will also be distributed via shopDisney in the US before then, with purchases of over $150.
Of course, we will give further information about the steamboat's availability when we know.

Looks nice but makes me feel extra happy with my 21317 Steamboat Willie
This ironically looks much closer to the original Ideas submission than the actual Ideas set.
This feels like a lot of coverage for a GWP.
I love the set, and can't wait for video reviews to see the smoke stacks chugging up and down. It's a high part count for a GWP, and I'm almost wishing this had been released as a standalone set.

People always seem to forget that Lego ideas is not about recreating the fan model as a set. It's about getting a set made based on the fan's *idea*.

Yeah, there's quite a lot of the early Disney cannon that is not at all appropriate. It was made in a different era, and the best we can say is that such things would not happen today.
I'm confused, was 21317 so popular they had to do a slightly smaller one so soon? I guess I don't remember the original set making waves... sorry, it's early here.

"I see this version doesn't feature Pete either, which is a shame. I like Pete.
I had to look his US name up - we call him "Boris Boef" in the Netherlands. I also noticed that one of his many aliases is "Black Pete".

yup! The original name is Peg-leg Pete, because he had a wooden leg... in italian he's still called "Pietro Gambadilegno" (translation of his original name).
In USA, he's knowed with the nickname Black Pete because in comic strip he no longer have his mock, but a "streamlined, modern" artificial leg since 1941.
Pete is the oldest Disney's character, since he appeared in a pre-Mickey Mouse cartoon called "Alice's Comedies" in 1925, so he's 3 years older than Mickey!

His danish name is "Sorte Per" = Black Per
Thought--I wish this had been a Chibi set similar to the Star Wars sets that Lego did for various fan conventions (like the mini Ghost or Luke's Landspeeder). This is weirdly too big to be a mini model, but too small to be representative of the original.
I take it the smokestacks don't pop either.
I don’t see Minnie anywhere…. Name is false advertising, shame on LEGO…
Looking forward to getting this. Hoping it's piggybacked with Houses of the World 4 as rumored but dates of the last 3 of those were pretty fluid!

Owned by 10469 members is pretty popular! I suspect this will be too.

Zvarte Pier was obviously already taken in the Netherlands

I’ve never heard him called that. Usually it’s either “Pegleg Pete” or “Pirate Pete.”
He is a black cat, though, and he is pretty evil most of the time. So I don’t know why “Black Pete” would be a problem.
I didn't realize this thing had a function, makes me want it more. If I hadn't just bought 10320 (double points and 40597 for getting a set I already craved ahoy!), and placed a decent-sized order to get 40600 shortly before that, I'd probably go for this, especially since Star Wars and Marvel sets count for this, unlike with 40600.
@Ridgeheart: What's the problem with the name "Black Pete?" Is this one of those things that sounds much ruder on the other side of the pond?
This seems kind of weird to me. It’s very close to the original set, and is a lesser version ultimately. It’s not like the miniature Disney Castle or Haunted Mansion. But I guess if you didn’t get the original it’s an ok alternative.

Google "Black Pete Netherlands" and you'll understand why the naming is somewhat unfortunate... Then again, let's not get too deep into the origins of old-timey cartoon animal designs, either.
For a GWP this looks amazing, though. Might get that Disney camera set after all.
I will be interested to see exactly what they have done with the mini (Mickey?) figure. From the pictures it looks like a remix from 4230 with light bluish gray legs and the black and white hat from 71024 Vintage Mickey (which has white legs) from the Disney Series 2 CMF. Whereas the figure included in 21317 has metallic silver on the legs and the top of the hat.
With all three of those and their matching mini Minnie's already on display I am not sure that this one has a spot in the case.
Will that spending threshold be on Disney sets, or any set?

Just Disney (including Star Wars and Marvel Super Heroes).
For this set, they made sure to use white Technic pins, otherwise this would look awful. But for regular Technic sets they don't care to use blue pins and IT DOES look awful...
I kind of like this but I bought the camera to get 40600, I bought a gigantic pick-a-brick lot to get the pirate-shark-reef thingy 40597 and the medium lilac helmet 40608 (double insider); I also bought the Perseverance Rover 42158 on Amazon because it was on sale. Still many on the wanted list - some must be bought before the year end as they are reaching their end of line but the budget is disagreeing with all that spending.
Pete might just better be known as "PJ's dad."

Are you serious? xD Black Pete is very common according to google.

"
Originally "Hubert, Deuteronomy, and Louis". The Ducktales Reboot one-upped their names by changing them to "Hubert, Dewford Dingus, and Lewellyn". And then the reboot one-upped itself by revealing that they were supposed to be called "Jet, Turbo, and Rebel" according to their mother's instructions, which Donald never got or straight-up ignored. There may or may not be a fourth secrew nephew called "Phooey".
The reboot's good, man. Real good."
Nice!
I seriously don't understand any of this. I have a name and surname and they are both the same in any and every languages.
I love it…can’t wait to place it along-side the Ideas set!
And now Pirates Cove and Mystic Witch seem to have gone, it's back to a rerun of the Magic Maze.
Roll on Willie!
