Another fun lineup. I'm most excited for the other four, but I'm glad this theme is sill going strong.

That Boss Bass would be pretty easy to do in a dentist checkup.

I thought it was supposed to retire in 2024?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I haven't gotten any big Super Mario sets in a while, but I do like 71432. Lego shipwrecks are always cool. But if I get any of these, it'll be 71431, both because it's a cool-looking car, and because I don't have a Bowser.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGO finally seems to have reined in the prices on this theme, or at least that's how it feels to me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hopefully the final wave. This theme dose not sell well

Gravatar
By in United States,

I haven't been collecting this one, but tempted by Bowser's car depending on the price. Lots of fun to be had with that!

It doesn't sell well TO YOU. However, the theme is going into its 5th year, instead of retiring after 3 like most themes, which suggests that it is, in fact, selling well enough to its target audience. Which is not you.

By in Norway,

I like how many of them could be standalone playsets, without the starter set.
I.E The Bowser's Car

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Bowser's Muscle Car is great! A must have for me, both for Bowser and for the car.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is anyone else finding that clicking the images opens them in a full page, rather than zooming in as they normally do? Or is my browser doing something weird?

Gravatar
By in United States,

bowsers car is the best super mario set yet.

still wont buy it tho.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does Mario have a driving license?

Gravatar
By in United States,

No no no no no. Where is the last koopa kid. We need that. We dont need more Yoshi's

Fixed!

By in United States,

These sets look really fun!

Bowser's car looks amazing and the price is quite fair too. This Bowser is a slight upgrade to the one in previous sets too, since they improved the claws on his hands.

Of all the water levels we've had in this theme, the sunken ship one is the one that feels the most like it's actually underwater. I like the echoed motifs from the Bowser's Airship set, and the Cheep Chomp looks good too. Blooper, Dorrie, and Cheep Cheep are repeat figures but given how few water-themed sets there have been I won't say no to them.

The Yoshi set is less exciting to me, given that it contains two common Yoshi colors from previous sets. The digital function sounds mildly clever for a small set like this, though—you scan the tile for the egg and then "rock" your figure to hatch it into a randomly colored Yoshi. The Nabbit set is cute but not super exciting for long term collectors—but at least once again, it features a novel digital function compared to previous sets with Nabbit and Toad. And the penguin set is cute but relatively unexciting, despite how fond I am of snow-themed levels.

Considering these are always marked down by as much as 40 and 50% here in NZ at multiple retail stores im guessing they dont sell that great either...

Impressed with the confidence it must take to argue against five years of global status with what you've seen in a single market. Thank you for your anecdotal perspective all the same.

By the way, I'm glad that Lego is still gradually revealing some of next year's sets. Gives me hope that we'll get more pics of those new Friends sets pretty soon.

In general, clearance prices are a poor way to judge a theme's overall sales. Sometimes it can be indicative (for example, if a newly released group of sets is already deeply discounted, that's not typically a good sign). But a lot of the time it can mean "we ordered a lot of this, over and over again, and eventually it stopped selling through". If the stores near you continue to stock new Mario sets even with older ones going on clearance, it's probably safe to assume that the previous waves of sets have been successful enough for those stores to justify continuing to invest in them.

Very Controversial Opinion, But Why The Heck Does LEGO Still Make This Theme? Instead Why Don't They Make More Clone Battle Packs, And A Better Gunship? Vidiyo Still Beats This As The Worst Theme. (There I Said It)

This isn't a controversial opinion so much as a non-sequitur. "Instead of making this theme, why not make more of a completely different theme (that's already bigger than a good number of other themes)?" I can assure you that the existence of this theme isn't affecting the behemoth that is Star Wars.

I think the bigger question is: Does Bowser? Even if the set has a function allowing Mario to carjack it (which would be cool), it's still Bowser's car.

Because there is absolute no way this person is over 11 years old

Probably their best wave yet! I’m interested in all of these except for the ship wreck set. Kinda crazy it’s taken this long to get a Yoshi egg piece.

Still holding out hope to see Roy soon! He’s my favorite of the Koopa kids so it’s a tad bittersweet he’s being saved for last.

That doesn't really come across, and it just makes your comment hard to read. You'd be better off writing normally.

By in Canada,

Any set with a boat hull hull is a good set. I do somewhat regret not getting Bowser's airship for the hulls, along with that Friends House boat. they matched so well.

Any set with black, white, and neon green is a great set.

So I guess that means there is one good set, but no great sets here.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

They could have made the Yoshis orange, very light blue, purple or black and all the people that already have these ones would buy that set on day one

Here’s hoping Daisy, Wario, Rosalina, and/or Waluigi are in the summer wave.

Definitely!! I have a few as display pieces, but I think all of these would make great stand-alone desk displays, especially for fans of the games. Also, glad to have another way to get Nabbit and Bowser!

you're welcome, as i only live and partake in a single market its all i have to go off. Like i said its the single most common Lego theme that is ALWAYS marked down as low as 50%. But hey clearly retailers here in little ole NZ are happy to take a significant hit on a theme that is clearly a massive success. After all you're the expert.

By in Australia,

That looks like a really good minifig scale Bowser. And I reckon that shipwreck could fit in really well with any underwater scene you want to make.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Bowser car is nice, probably because it's a standalone set that doesn't rely on you having a bunch of the others for play value. I've always been sceptical how 'fun' one of these sets can be on their own (the require a Mario figure at least), unlike regualr lego sets that at least have indidviual play value.

It's only anecdotal but seeing these in B&M (British Store) at discount always suggests to me these aren't doing well, despite peoples debate in the comments above... but without any of us seeing the financials we really don't know. Maybe they signed a 5 year contract, who knows. Hoepfully lasts long enough for them to do some more cars and stuff.

I feel like a big castle inhabited by monsters and ruled over by a giant evil turtle (for instance) has inherent play value whether you have a noisy square man for it or not.

Well, it's the same in Germany, so two markets in very different parts of the world showing the same behavior. Still anecdotal of course, but all the same this theme is a shelf warmer over here. And it's not that those discounts are only on clearance sets but on new releases from the get-go too.
