City Advent Calendar - Day 11
Posted by MeganL,Yesterday's hearth was a good build, but could have used a bit more holiday cheer. It's also a build that can be placed in the outdoor or indoor area of the mat. The interior spaces are looking kind of empty; hopefully that will be remedied soon.
We have our fourth minifig of the calendar, and this is a minifig definitely designed to be inside! This minifig is clearly spending quality time gaming, thanks to the enormous controller that he's holding. His shirt has a computer graphic feel to it, and I really like the headphones, which have been found in only two sets before.
There's also some nice printing on the back of his hoodie.
Great minifig, but as I've said before, where's the holiday spirit?

Finally, a brave champion steps forth, a hero to protect us from the encroaching penguin terror. And our valiant warrior is ...
... a video game nerd.
Honestly, there were worse choices. I still think we came out ahead, here.
Have at it, kid. I believe in you!
@MeganL, the shirt looks like an EQ graphic, showing the sound levels on a high end stereo system. I don’t see them as often these days, but for a few years they had a degree of popularity (sometimes the levels were set to create an image of something). So, computer-adjacent, if not directly related to a computer.

He'll just call DreadFlipper a Noob and start insulting his mother.
It's NoobMaster69...

I see a high potential for ragequit. My money is on Dreadflipper.

For a teenage boy, locking yourself in your bedroom for a full day gaming session is the holiday spirit.
I like it. The video game controller will be a fun addition to my collection but I feel like we've picked up a white one before from the build-a-minifigure station at the Lego store.
Here's our family's Advent Calendar devotional on it. I wrote the script based on my favorite Christmas gift in the 80's, an Atari 2600. (But I never actually had Fishing Derby)

That headphone piece is one of several pieces that had me tempted to get this calendar.I haven't gotten a City AC since 60201. I like the torso piece, too.

Never seen Pixels, then?
No, me neither.
Not sure how we are counting, but the headphones in dark turquoise are not as rare as two sets… I know it is a theme that won’t see a lot of collections (though it is huge in mine) but Monkie Kid wears them in at least a half dozen sets.

No, @Zordboy has an excellent point. I'm something of a gamer myself, but I'm also fantastically old - my first instinct is to go into a panic-attack whenever I hear the dulcet cries of "HEYYYYY ITSYABOOOY HARGLEBLARGH, LIKE & SUBSCRIBE, POGGERSTONKS, EPIC CRINGE!!!" of the Youths These Days.
I can only imagine how an Elder Cosmic Horror would feel. I mean, it might violently backfire, but who knows, right?"
Well, it depends on the gamer's peronality, right? But you call yourself an old gamer, right? Means you know the virtue of grinding! Young players don't know how EARNED victory feels anymore...! Back in vanilla, we had to grind for 3 weeks through deeepest snow and hardest winds to, with a lot of luck, gather enough scraps to craft a low-quality scarf! Yadda yadda yadda...

About a week before the wide release, there was a theater offering free tickets, first come first served, to a sneak preview, so…I haven’t seen it either.
Medium legs!
Is he going to play Lego Fortnite?

No, clearly playing the new Fortnite Festival stage mode, based on the music shirt.
Why is it that I view gamer kids with a sad shake of my head? We used to do the same- especially during the holidays.
Maybe it's because they seem so much more angry and depressed? Maybe because they hide away in their rooms rather than play in a communal space like a living room? Maybe because of the smell that emanates from a gamer room? Maybe because of so many failing to launch and then angrily, violentl blaming everyone else?
Zits, stench, and failure... MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
This is Nova’s cousin from the City.

Also..... He is somehow shorter one stud shorter than Dreadflipper so odds are stacked against him even more

Bricklink lists 14 sets with this color, three with dark-tan, and one with red.
