Meet the Mixels, part 2

Posted by ,

Let's take a look at three more Mixels, one from each tribe: Vulk, Teslo and Shuff, plus two naughty Nixels.

41501 Vulk is an Infernite who, apparently, lives in the magma wastelands near the planet’s core. He's a one-eyed monster with fiery hands. His head is mounted on a hinge thus allowing his mouth to be opened and closed.

Mixels

Unlike the others I've built so far, he utilises the new ball-hinge pieces for arms and legs although his legs use the very old 'Plate, Modified 2 x 2 with Towball' first used in about 1979, albeit this is a newer mould with a hole in-between the studs.

Mixels

41506 Teslo, named no doubt after Nikola Tesla, is from the Electroids tribe, who live high in the mountainous forest, close to the lightning storms. He too has a hinged head which allows his jaw to open.

Mixels

The hose is connected to a black ice-cream cone which is new in this set.

Mixels

Finally for today, 41505 Shuff is from the Cragsters tribe who live underground. He's short and chubby and quite cute-looking.

Mixels

These three sets contained two naughty Nixels, from 41501 (left) and 41506 (right). All three share the same head print. (Update: my mistake, the one not shown here has a different face).

Mixels

Each Mixel contains an average of 70-pieces which, priced at £3.00/$4.99, works out at 4.2p/7.1c a piece which makes them the cheapest price-per-piece sets (in the UK at least) currently available, excluding bulk brick boxes.

What's not to like: they are cheap, cute, fun and full of potential. Go and grab some today!

Marks out of 5:

  • set:41501 Vulk - 4
  • set:41506 Teslo - 4
  • set:41505 Shuff - 3.5

I really can't choose between them or find fault today; they are all equally good. I've only knocked half a point off Shuff because his jaw doesn't open like the others.

By in United Kingdom,

At the Metrocentre opening event this morning these were flying off the shelf (well, display pod). The manager was making runs back and forth to the stock room about once every 2 minutes to keep filling them up.

I knew it was only a matter of time before that ice cream cone piece started showing up in other colors. Now to go buy a dozen Teslos.

Ay! You're discriminating against the rock creatures! :P Shuff is the one I'm most interested in buying, as well as the whole Cragster tribe.

Great reviews Huw! Can't wait to pick up a whole set myself :-) But you put "firey" in Vulk's description when I think you mean "fiery"? ;-)

Unfortunately I have to wait until they're available via LEGO.com which is still a week away :-(

Picked up all 9 at TRU the other day, and yes the Buy One Get One 50% off worked, making them even cheaper, picked another polybag set to make it an even 10 items.

So are these available in the US at any retailers? I'm really disappointed that they're sold out on the store already.

By in United States,

I almost got one or two the other day but I decided I'd rather have two legend Beasts than one of those and two of these. Like I said in my review of the two LB I got over on The Brick Fan, Lego made a very smart move by releasing not one, but two lines of pretty cheap sets that contain these new ball and socket elements. These things are positively adorable. Will you do like a "best of" one picking out the best one at the end? I can't believe that its the cragsters that seem to be taking my favor. Though I can't wait till the series that has the purple ones come along Gonna get all those for the sake of PURPLE!!!! Thanks for these reviews @Huw they're awesome.

Though who ever makes the cartoon must be high on cocaine or something cause man those things are positively whacked, but in a good sometimes hilarious way. The A.D.D Adderal brats will love them.
