Seasonal minifigs now available at BaM stations in brand stores

Posted by ,

LEGO brand stores, in the UK at least, have a new set of seasonal minifigures available, either in the build-a-minifigure stations or pre-packed in blister packs or boxes.

I picked up a set from my local store in Southampton this morning so that I could prepare this article.

First up is a pink-haired bespectacled lady in a dazzling fur-lined sparkly dress. I'm not a huge fan of the hair or the head, but the torso and skirt -- printed with silver snowflakes or stars -- are quite splendid.

There was a choice of accessories with this one, either the icy star as pictured, or a 1x2 envelope tile.

Looking through the gallery of Santa Claus minifigs I do not see one in dark red, so this may well be new and unique.

His torso appears to be printed the same as the 2021 version, with a candy cane ticked in his belt at the back, but unlike all previous incarnations he does not come with a beard element, relying instead on a printed one. In some ways that's better because you can see the full print of the torso.

He comes with a teddy bear, always a popular element of which you can't have too many.

Finally, we have a gentleman equipped with a shovel, presumably for clearing snow, although given that he's wearing a black and white striped shirt and the torso is usually used for convicts in City sets, maybe he's digging an escape tunnel...

Overall, a nice set of figures for £5.99, Santa in particular.

By in United States,

For some reason, my local store never has all of the seasonal parts in the bins at once. I might find some legs, or a torso, but not an entire Santa.

I like the lady and her dress.

It seems Santa's hat is red, while the rest of his outfit is dark red. It doesn't match that well to my eyes.

By in United Kingdom,

I found a regular red Santa torso in my branch, so you may be able to get reasonably close to a matching set. I also found some returning elements from the gingerbread woman, although the torso wasn’t available.

By in Germany,

Huh, they were already in stock when I went a month ago.

Anyway, all the Santa parts were dark red. I gave him a spare white beard element and now he's sitting in a nice little Christmas display. Very pretty figure.

I'm person, there is a slight mismatch in the coloring because the hat is printed dark red vs the torso and legs that are molded in dark red.

By in Switzerland,

I picked them up in my local Store here in Zurich in Switzerland at the Beginning of November already

By in United Kingdom,

The price is £5.99 or 3.99. I remember its 5.99.

By in United Kingdom,

These have been in Southampton since 1/11 and its £5.99 per pack and I was very impressed with all three and of course the lovely staff in Southampton.

Maybe the third guy is a prisoner doing community service

By in United States,

The guy in the earflap hat looks a bit like Gaear Grimsrud in the climactic woodchipper scene in FARGO. Good to see LEGO finally making good on that 18+ branding.

By in United Kingdom,

I picked the set up in Paris, although they had packaged the criminal figure with a candy cane, which I preferred to the more common shovel anyway.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Are the figures going to be added to the database´?

By in United States,

I just picked these up in the states in one of the Seattle area stores this weekend.

I had a feeling the dark red Santa was new, and it looks so good! The hat looks like it’s painted to me, so some slight bits of red show through, but a cool look nonetheless.

By in Norway,

It has been a disappointing BAM year, no new animals, Castle, Pirates or Western figs that I can remember :/

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll pretend that guy has a normal shirt...

By in New Zealand,

I can't wait to BAM!.. If only there were more than two Lego stores in NZ!

By in Netherlands,

Just got these at the LEGO Store in Amsterdam, which has plenty of them pre-assembled. I switched out Santa for a minifig with a black coat and a top hat, though, as I already have enough Santas for one Winter Village.

@JavaBrix:
Apparently, there’s been some internal scuffle over this. Some stores were ordering new stuff right away, while others waited until they were ready for new parts. This resulted in some stores missing out. Changes in when stores are allowed to order should supposedly help straighten this out. There’s no guarantee your store will get _every_ wave of seasonal parts, but no longer should a handful of stores continuously get screwed out of the opportunity to get any.

@woosterlegos:
I found that, depending on the angle, the hat can look like a solid match for the body, or _almost_ like it’s printed red. The print is not of a consistent saturation, apparently due to the bulbous shape of the hat. I don’t see any overlap that would indicate multi-step printing, so that whole sucker gets colored in one pass. The standard red version probably has the same issue, but not as noticeably due to the brighter color.

@WemWem:
The ushanka hat has been out at least a few years, but it rarely gets used.

Side note, do you know what happened to the Tile Studio trial they had? I’m visiting Amsterdam at the moment and was hoping it was still there, but none of the workers I spoke to had any idea what I was talking about.

We had the return of the BAM wizard from last year, the unicorn lion knight, and the skeleton pirate in Q2. Regarding animals, I think it was just the bulldog, blue bunny, and dark orange chicken that have made appearances. We have been blessed by a lot of dual molded legs as well.

Huw, those are snowflakes.

I can always use more Santas, especially if they introduce variety. On our club layout at The Henry Ford Museum, I’ve got Real Santa flying 40499 (with five extra reindeer), eight Santas with bells and red kettles, Santa Bat, the Grinch, and another member beat me to putting out Jack Skellington. On the layout we’ll be setting up in a week at Detroit Symphony Orchestra, I’ll have Real Santa driving his hot rod (preceded by nine reindeer on scooters), four Santas with bells and red kettles, Santa Bat, the Grinch, and Jack Skellington. I’ve also been known to slip Deadpool in a Santa suit onto layouts. Someday I’d like to make Robot Santa from Futurama, but that one might not be welcome at any of our Christmastime displays. I’ve already got six of this new version, and plan to pick up more.

@JQAForPresident:
I see four different designs on the dress, only one of which can be a legitimate snowflake (Jack Skellington’s tiles had this same problem). The largest is 8-pointed, and looks more like a shuriken. The second largest is 6-pointed, and has all the hallmarks of a proper snowflake (indeed, it looks very much like the one she’s holding). Third, and the last of the silver shapes, is a very normal 5-pointed star, almost like a police badge. Finally, in white, with a faint blue halo, is a 7-pointed star.

Seems like your Winter Village display is way more impressive than mine! :-) I just brought out two Santa's this year and added one additional reindeer to his sleigh.

@chrisaw
I haven't been on the upstairs floor during my visit yesterday, I only went in quickly to pick up the Christmas themed minifigs and check if the Marvel CMF's were still in stock (they weren't), so I didn't notice the Tile Studio was gone. Seemed to me like it was a big success, though. I did notice some employees were new to the job, so that might explain why they didn't know about it, but usually the Amsterdam store workers are very well-informed. I can imagine it's been removed temporarily, since it does clutter up that floor when it's exceptionally busy. So it might come back after the holiday season.

This is our Henry Ford Museum display from 2014. Well, the tall half, anyways. So, one red kettle Santa would go in front of each of these buildings. In overall effect, they don’t really even show up. But if you look down by the entrance of a building, chances are there will be one ringing a bell. The Grinch, you’d need to find a 10” tall Christmas tree, which also sorta disappears into a layout this size. Jack Skellington being in his coffin sleigh, as small as it is, helps somewhat. Santa Bat is one of the 33 Crazy Batsuits from TLBM that kids are supposed to find across the entire layout. Only the 40499 Santa Sleigh really pops from a distance, and that’s because I make sure it has a prominent placing on the roof of a mid-height building. This puts it close to eye level for adults. Also, it has a full team of nine reindeer, which nearly doubles the length.

Also, what’s “Tile Studio”? Is it anything like the Minifig Factory?

My local store usually does, except for Halloween this year; it was the first time I've had trouble finding the parts to build a good trio. The Jack-o-lanterns were completely gone, which is the part I wanted most. So I had to go with the pre-built set...

Yep, these were available at the Wisconsin store when I went in during VIP weekend what, 2? 3 weeks ago?

Wow! I reiterate: you're LEGO display is waaaaaay more impressive than mine. :-)

And yes, the Tile Studio is sorta similar. It was tested in a select number of LEGO stores.

By in United States,

This year’s layout is 65 baseplates long and 9 deep. Alternately, 54’2” x 7’6”. Or, for those who prefer metric, sixteen thousand five hundred ten millimeters by two thousand two hundred eighty six millimeters.

We display near this beast:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2-6-6-6/media/File%3AChesapeake_%26_Ohio_H-8_No._1601_at_Henry_Ford_Museum.png

According to The Henry Ford Museum’s website, our layout only needs to just over double in length, grow a mere 3’8” deeper, and reach almost 4’ taller (including the rather short height of the tables) before we’ll beat it in all three dimensions. Not sure we stand a chance on catching up in the weight category.

I don’t have participation numbers for this year, but last year (with a slightly smaller layout), we had at least 41 members on our sign-in sheet at setup, and another member and myself were able to identify at least 19 members who contributed material to the display, ranging from skyscraper MOCs maxing out at 11’6” to stock Speed Champions sets to help fill up the roads. 75% of the layout uses 155 road baseplates (the rightmost 25% uses no roads at all), plus there’s a raised brickbuilt freeway worth another 18 (and there might be actual roadplates I’m not accounting for underneath the freeway).

So, yeah, one Santa minifig would get kinda lost in the vastness. Even most of the ones I have on there require a little hunting to locate.
