By in Australia,

It seems across all 2024 themes that there are a higher number of sets at a lower price point than in previous years. I think LEGO has done the financial analysis and realised that with increasing costs of living and inflation, people are able to only spend smaller amounts on hobbies/ gifts. I'm glad they're adjusting their overall strategy to make sets more accessible, and obviously they're hoping that by more people buying these small sets they will maintain their profits.

Also, the fact that these small sets are complemented by insanely large and expensive adult ones!

By in United States,

Cool Bionicle sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love the sora mech.
I like the mini jay mech set, and want multiple.
Shame to see the new ninja not get suits.
Those gimmick sets look like knockoffs.
Every normal (Non 4+ or gimmick) set looks good
Also, these suits would work really well for a custom space wave.

What, no Ninjago Space?

Gravatar
By in United States,

So, can those "Dragon Strike" sets shoot out cores? Maybe @Kalhiki wasn't too far off, because if that's true, I'm reminded of Zamor Spheres and Midak Skyblasters.

I'm guessing they realized that more cheap sets makes more lego fans in the long run, especially during the current regression.

By in Canada,

I'm tired of mechs, but they must sell exceptionally well since they've infected nearly every theme.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not a Ninjago fan but those transparent eyes in the dragon heads are really nice looking. Bet they'll be pricey on PAB.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

How many mechs do you need in one theme??? and dragons... Wish there were some buildings and larger sets..........

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It seems that a lot of people like mechs, but I've never been interested in them. Then again, my interest in Ninjago is limited. I only have the Temple of Airjitzu and the Ninjago City sets.

It does make sense.

I would've liked that old dragon and the earth mech to be more developed (and expensive).

But, allowing Ninjago to return to a kids' theme, and leave my wallet alone, is not a bad thing.

It's hard to get new AFOLs without KFOLs and TFOLs. For cheap mechs and dragons, these are pretty cool.

I wish I could just get battle packs of the ninjago villains.

Gravatar

Why is the four and up Kai’s dragon set so expensive it doesn’t have many pieces. I wonder how many of those pieces are exclusive to that set.

But don’t they do this every year? Releasing cheaper sets early in the year after the Christmas period, precisely because of the sheer amount of spending and expensive Christmas purchases made at the end of the year.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

IMO that's the most disappointing Ninjago wave in years if not ever

I'm a huge fan of mechs, but these just don't look too good in my eyes, even though I like the small EVO mechs and these new ones are basically bigger versions of them, but they're somehow worse, I think they overdid that clunky armored style... guess I prefer the more mechanical-looking ones like the Empress mech or the Titan-scaled ones

Even the figures are mostly a let down for me, I'm not digging the new ninja suits (not very ninja-esque) and hood pieces (they're too big and don't mesh well with printed eye masks) at all, Arin and Sora are basically unchanged, the villains are cool, but there's not enough variety, the three named characters are mostly unique, but the difference between the generic ones appears to be only their headgear, Climber Kai and new Wyldfyre are awesome tho (can't wait to see the Climbing Mech later in the year)

I think the best sets from this season so far are probably the master dragon (tho that head do be kinda goofy ngl), Cole's mech (for being so bulky and actually conveying the elemental look well) and Jay's mech (a great deal despite the build's quality)

Overall, first season's sets were so much better in every way possible except for the prices

The Cole mech is genuinely great I think.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hoping that’s not an actual Source Dragon in 71815, or that a more impressive version is coming later in the year. Dragons Rising has built them up as these awe-inspiring creatures, not…THAT.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Wow this is underwhelming. The most boring wave in a while.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Personally only really care about the Jay mech (will be modded to become guard mechs), but I like how the dragon has a beard. Otherwise, dang Ninjago, let's slow down on the mechs and release bad guy stuff/buildings.

It's more unusual this year. 2023 has $100, $80, and $60 sets of note. 2022 had $100, $90, $70, and $50 as the higher end Core line. Here, the most expensive is $70, with the second-highest being a Juniors set at $37. Next is $30 - it's cheaper than most recent January waves I can think of.
Some of that is doubtless contributed by the interchangeable mech parts gimmick they're doing this wave, but it still is very noteworthy.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Where are locations, places?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

A bit of a let down after the dragon's rising S1 wave, hopefully we'll get a proper Sora hair soon.

Strange to put the most interesting figs in a 4+ set.

Hopefully some of the more interesting figs come the magazines as I don't see myself buying any of these. Mostly mechs but the best mech last year was in the elemental dragon versus the Empress mech set. None of these are especially impressive builds.

I like the master dragon but not enough to particularly want him. Ninjago has a whole menagerie of dragons so they really have to stun to draw my eye.

I think there are more coming in the spring so we'll see if they have anything more interesting then, might be better for my wallet if not.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I love mecha and dragons, so I'm pretty happy with next year's line.

Orange is my favourite colour, and the fact that one of the glider-dragons belongs to Arin and is orange is just wonderful.

My one real issue is with Sora's mecha. Didn't Sora just get a large mecha, this year? Like, at least wait longer than 12 months before doing the exact same thing.

The most expensive ninjago sets not retired in 2024 are both gardens and markets , coming in at €350 and €370, with quite a bunch of other large 2023 sets like a €150 bounty, €105 dragon , €85 mech and €95 temple all released just recently in June 2023. + of course the january sets you mentioned at €80 and €100.

So even with all the older 2022 retiring, the market is quite saturated with big ninjago sets, even if the big €300+ sets are a different category and not included, that's still 6 sets over €80-150 purely released in 2023.

So it doesn't surprise me they release sets at lower price ranges for this wave, as it basicly replaces the segment of 2022 Core having multiple €10-€20 sets retire.

And 2023 / 2024 is all Dragons Rising, it's no longer considered Core.

How much cooler would 70734 be with a hat like that!

Gravatar
By in United States,

It’s affordable! That’s already appealing. While there are a lottttt of mechs, there is also a lot of variety… different sizes, shapes, designs, colors. Plus that dragon is really cool. I do wish there was a location or villain vehicle. Also, selfishly, I want more clues to what the season is about. I guess we will find out in time!

Now I want to put the hat on 71718: Wu's Battle Dragon , minifig hat is somewhat correct scale for that set and even comes with it already.

LEGO forgot to put Space logo on 71804 Arin's Battle Mech , clearly it's a mining mech , and the set comes with purple crystals seen in the space sets :)

Wait, are those wolves? Ninjago is finally being creative and interesting for once

Gravatar

The success mech products apparently have make me think Lego has fair incentive to make a new buildable figure line (ideally original because I don't want any of the ugly super hero ones). Kids clearly like big posable figures.

I certainly wouldn't be a Lego fan today if there hadn't been the affordable sets in the 90s to get me into it. The "Walmart bundles" and great polybags and the sub-$40 sets, that were still actually nice sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yet another hairpiece that you could paint for a Nimona custom.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The prices are good for kiddies!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looking through the sequence of recent articles about 2024 sets, I felt I was looking at sets from several years ago--smaller, simpler, and probably more fun to play with than the elaborate models we've become used to. I don't find this disappointing or inappropriate; my wallet can use a rest, and Lego is, after all, at heart a children's toy. The dual-molded parts in the Rising Dragon sets would make great starting points for more elaborate MOCs--and they don't cost an arm and a leg.

Also, the mechs have a lot of individual personality, which I like. Is Sora *really* going to war wielding a branch from a flowering peach tree?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the lower prices! The subject matter is not very diverse, but the mechs look pretty good both in design and value, especially Kai's and Jay's for 30 and 10 respectively! And for once a fairly priced 4+ set(Arin's mech)? I like the new ninja prints, but I won't know how I feel about the masks until I have them in hand. Hopefully Zane is in the minifig polybag since he has the best looking suit, but I'm sure we will suffer through another Kai or Lloyd.

Indeed, especially with plenty of sizable pieces that somehow, magically, don't make the set 100% overpriced like in the 4+ sets (seriously, that Source Dragon is insulting). I truly feel for parents of 4-5 year olds trying to move their kids into System.

To me it looks like the Ninjago Mech vartiant of 70325: Infernox captures the Queen (minus the capture part)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can we get some locations please? Monkie Kid has a decent balance of locations vs machines…

Gravatar
By in Finland,

These don't at all put the Bionicle 2025 rumors to rest... quite the opposite.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These might be the best midrange ninjago mechs. They look good, are priced reasonably, and have the limb swapping functionality to encourage kids to experiment. Relatively little here for the older fans, but sometimes that’s the way it goes

Depends. Do you want the barrel to still exist when you're done scraping? Even if you scraped the barrel until you couldn't see anything with a magnifying glass, the atoms and molecules that make (made?) it up will still remain. ;-)

You mean 71795 : Temple of the Dragon Energy Cores that released just 6 months ago? .

And 71767 : Ninja Dojo Temple that was available for the past 2 years, which even could be expanded with 71764 : Ninja Training Centre.

But there's still 71787 : Creative Ninja Brick Box in 2024.

Ninjago had a very large amount of larger sets release in 2023 (which will still be available), so going somewhat smaller here makes sense.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I really like the direction Ninjago is going! Part of me wants to complain about a lack of variety, but all of these are designed excellently. And I love that the focus has been shifted to remixing and creating your own things! And of course a lot of these are on the cheaper side, great for kids.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

They are focusing hard on kindergarden-segment. 4+ and 6. They have realized that when they turn 7 they are no longer interested.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Seem to be aiming for the next generation with too many simple Mechs and Dragons, leaving just Egalt for anyone older than 6.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is it just me, or does this kind of feel like they repurposed a plan for a Ninjago CORE wave? The whole gimmicky mech combining thing feels like the EVO gimmick, and just a lot of sets clearly aimed more at younger builders.
That said, some of the mechs look pretty cool, so I most likely will get some of the sets this wave.
