@8675 didn't look familiar to me. I must have seen it in catalogs at the time, but I had to go to the set page to get a closer look, and still didn't recognize it. Interesting that it's not the only RC Racers set on the list. Also, 928 is hot every week.

Ooh, lemme guess: some reddit post addressing the weird racers outdoor RC system got big?

For how system-incompatible they are, I do actually adore these monsters, cause that's what they are: the immense power stuffed away within those 3 main components (battery bit, driving bit, steering bit) is utterly baffling. I know because I bought a used but near-perfect 8369 last year: even after nearly two decades, it accelerates to max speed in seconds, at which point it is easily capable of damaging anything/injuring anyone it crashes into due to its immense weight. And crashing tends to happen quite frequently, especially at the start, as there is a slight delay in response-time between the car and remote making handling a bit fiddly. I still don't understand how anyone could deem them safe toys for kids to be honest.

Seemingly, LEGO was fully aware that their product was stupidly overpowered, since all non-functional parts are made of an unusual stiff rubbery material, ideal for minimizing impact from a crash. Mostly to protect the car itself though; there's still visible scratches and dents at the location of my first test drive :P

The power supply in my copy had died over the years but they're actually the same type of high-capacity batteries used on many professional RC cars, so getting a replacement was surprisingly simple for such an old product. It's also possible to install battery packs with even more power than the one included originally which is hilarious.

As outdoor RC cars, these work extremely well and they're still very fun to mess with as an adult. However, their main problem is the fact that they're LEGO; because they had to be suitable for much harsher conditions than regular sets, the outdoor RC elements are also nearly fully incompatible with anything in the system, the exception being a few shared dimensions between the rubber connection points and technic elements. They definitely exist purely because of LEGO's desperation phase at the time, and even then it's a stretch; however I still really like that they were a thing.

The Bikini Bottom Express….Sounds like something the Lego geeks would definitely get hot over.

The old SpongeBob sets were good for what it is. Also it’s might be a horrible render but are those white tires on that set?
