First 2023 Ideas review results to be published tomorrow

Posted by ,

LEGO has announced that the first 2023 LEGO Ideas review results will be published tomorrow, 19th December, at 2pm GMT / 9am EST.

A whopping 71 projects were considered. Some are 'more of the same', some cover subjects that have recently been made into sets, but there are some truly spectacular and original ones among them that stand a chance of being selected, including the Humpback whale and ET poster.

View them after the break, then make your predictions in the comments.

By in United Kingdom,

Does seem a tricky one to judge. Maybe Bluey? That seems to be crazily popular with young kids, and will be known to many parents, so could be a good fit.

Otherwise I agree Shrek seems a good bet.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Medieval seaside market please. Very unique for the medieval theme, and it should have a bunch of civilians. Very cool.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh man, so many great ones here!

If had to pick my top 2 though it would be Chronicles of Narnia and the Dr. Seuss books

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I know a lot will say no to another sitcom set, but nine-nine!
The multi-tool will make a great GWP.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Humpback Whale or Godzilla are the only ones that appeal to me.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

"Where is Wally?" would be awesome

Gravatar
By in United States,

Some really nice MOCs in this batch.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Hollow Knight and Toa Head please please please

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Stargate would be amazing but it seems unlikely

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Modulars that are never going to get made - check.

Boring looking pop star builds - check

Sitcom builds - check

Vintage household items - check (though the radio might be the sort of thing they'd go for)

Space history - check (I would have guess at one of these, but feels like 2024 is the year of space so perhaps not by the time these would be released).

The turtle is nice, and maybe the moon artwork thing, Godzilla would be great, but again maybe too late if the latest films have been and gone.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

There are some extraordianry designs out there. It's really hard to choose. My favorite is The Humback Whale. It looks simple but the I loved the colors and the build.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

I hope it’s the moon poster.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Medieval seaside market looks great! I'd love to see more Castle sets. Missed out on the theme when I was a kid back in the 80's and early 90's.

Gravatar
By in United States,

5 or 8, 25, 59, 70

Stargate or Stargate II: Electric Boogaloo, Virginia and Truckee loco, and Adams Family (for the umpteenth time), and Shrimp boat. (Because I want to make an Andrea Gail swordfish boat from the film the Perfect Storm / real life events of that night, and this is a good starting point)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very tired of all the medieval/boat entries, even if that is an unpopular opinion. Big fan of the vintage household appliances and paintings, though!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So many of these are just Celebrity Boxes. Like, look at that Cullen House one, even if you are a fan of the films, what’s interesting about that look or build? Or the Harry Styles one that’s just a big flat slab of yellow. Give me Ideas sets that are willing to do things that are creative and clever (the humpback whale is still gorgeous, that Scream one is a clever use of Lego’s inherent blockiness to represent the original Expressionist painting, I’m a sucker for the nostalgia of the Bionicle head) rather that yet another “I want this setting from the show I like”

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm always astonished by how clever and creative people are.

I love the idea of a Lego-built Settlers of Catan board, but I've seen better ones than this. The settlements / cities seem way too big and clunky. I also don't like how they turned the traditional hex-shapes into circles.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Phew! Made it past all of these ideas (while looking at them of course) :)

I agree with some of the comments above that it is a lot of more of the same, and stuff that never got through so far. Not to say that some of these aren't nice builds.

Anyhow, I do like the whale as well. I think the tool is funny, but not really as an ideas set maybe. Beyond that, there are a few I wouldn't mind, but nothing I feel I'd really want.

Which Shrek btw? Might not matter in the end...

Edit: oh wait! The radio might be something I'd buy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

GODZILLA!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like that ericlego321 realized that something called Howl's Moving Castle should move.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Iron Giant needs to make it through someday.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Radio looks great. not a big bionicle fan but that mask is pretty awesome.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This might be the weakest selection I've seen. The most appealing are the least unique, and having Shrek on there twice seems pointless in the extreme. It's terrifying what the BTS set started! (That being said, I can think of several videos that I like which would make hilarious models—giant bullseye for Vertigo, anyone? If people like them, then good for them.)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Some nice builds in that (gigantic) list.

Nothing I’d have any interest in owning though…

Gravatar
By in United States,

Narnia or Shrek is what I'm hoping for. I think Shrek is very likely, but Narnia probably isn't. There are a few really creative ideas in here as well! The Harry House is not one of them...

Gravatar
By in United States,

As a fan of the books, I would love it if Narnia is picked. A set based on Elf would also be great, but I'm not a fan of the particular build in this selection.

Also, for the sake of my younger sister and many other kids out there, I hope Bluey is chosen, and I imagine the set would sell wonderfully, because of the show's popularity.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am very fond of the Sweet Honey idea.

Gravatar
By in Jordan,

Welcome to Narnia and the Shrimping Boat are my personal favourites. I can definitely see myself buying those if they were picked.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really hoping that Bluey makes it through this time!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

BLUEY! BLUEY! BLUEY!

*faints*

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really like the LED lamp. I think that looks great and I'd be easily interested in it if the price isn't too high.

Otherwise, it's the usual assortment of Ideas submissions - modulars that won't get made, properties that won't get made, meme sets that nobody voted for would actually buy. Can you tell I generally am feeling negative about the whole process these days?

I kinda want the Taylor Swift house to get made just to see how toxic the Bricket comment threads get. If you thought the BTS comment sections set the standard for "weirdly aggressive and angrily dismissive toward a property with mostly female fans" then you ain't seen nothin' yet! :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I doubt it will happen, but I'd love a winner that was <£50 when it eventually releases

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Huw
From the blog post on the Ideas website it looks like it will be at 3pm CET (not EST) so will be 2pm GMT

Sadly I think those days are long gone!

Gravatar
By in United States,

My picks for Ideas I like among this list are 1, 7, 21, 27, 32, 39, 44, 61, and 68. That said, for more specific thoughts...

The LED Lamp is very improbable since Lego hasn't made large transparent plates in quite a long while, so unless Lego were to figure out how to do it effectively with panels or suddenly print these large pieces with the newer transparent plastic blend (probably requiring adjusted molds, which would be an uncharacteristic level of effort) it wouldn't work.

The Daft Punk models here rely on chromed pieces, which Lego would definitely return to just for the sake of an Ideas set, but I think they could be done effectively using the inked metallics instead. Granted, looking at how the released gauntlets and helmets only use the inked/lacquered colors sparingly instead of thoroughly, I'm not sure if Lego would commit to doing every silver and gold external piece on those models that way.

Monsters Inc is a neat set but I think it's more likely that they'll reject this model and do it themselves in the scale of the recent small vignettes like Cinderella Castle, the Haunted Mansion, Aladdin, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, etc.

The Mech Factory is strange. It's a really big fully-enclosed model not based on an IP or "Adults Welcome" subject matter and seemingly relies on retired Bionicle pieces. I don't see it getting greenlit.

Bluey is probably going to make it at some level. Unsure if it will take the form of a current model or if they'd prefer to make a 4+ theme based on it like they did with the out-of-nowhere Gabby's Dollhouse.

DuckTales is an honorable mention, seemingly taking heavy inspiration from 71395 in form factor. That said, much like the mech factory, I don't know if Lego is chomping at the bit for big niche enclosed sets when most 18+ sets are much more display-friendly models.

I'd buy that Bionicle statue in a heartbeat. It's very striking visually and is immediately recognizable to fans as an essential part that almost represents the theme more than any single mask. The benefit of this model over the story tribute set that infamously was turned down is that it's simpler and more direct compared to a set of vignettes that didn't mean much outside of context. Still, I'm guessing Lego will point to 40581 as justification that another tribute set is unneeded.

The color table is cool and more appealing than the fanmade ones but I don't think this would get greenlit for the Ideas theme specifically, especially with those retired colors.

Two Shreks and two Stargates are ridiculous. Between the two, though, Shrek probably has the better shot.

By in Netherlands,

Oh boy, that's one long list. And honestly, more quantity over quality. But there sure are a number of good ones!

The ones I really like and think might have a chance:
2. SWEET HONEY - This is exactly what Ideas is meant for. Love it!
14. HUMPBACK WHALE - Very creative, love it!
31. MULTI-TOOL - Again, this is all Ideas should be about.

Also great, but not gonna happen:
6. ROSCOSMOS SOYUZ MS SPACECRAFT - Would love to see some non-NASA space stuff, and this looks great! Timing is a bit unfortunate though...
7. MOTORIZED HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE - As a Ghibli fan this would be a 100% buy! Unfortunately don't see the licensing happen. But if it somehow all works out, I could do without the motor.
21. LEGO GODZILLA - Very impressive! Though I feel that even if this would happen, Lego will change a lot, and likely not for the better.
25. V.&T.R.R. 12 , GENOA - Love it, but relies so heavily on those gold plated pieces. No way that's gonna happen.
27. DAFT PUNK - THE ROBOTS - What did I just say about the gold plated pieces? Now imagine these with drum lacquered pieces.....it's just wouldn't work.
38. LEGO ASTRONAUT: NEVER GIVE UP - Well, we just got that Creator set...as much as I love this, not a chance.

Cool, but probably not for me:
13. BA by GREEN SEA TURTLE - KINETIC - As cool as it looks, I bet it would turn out much more pricey than I would be willing to spend.
23. WHERE'S WALLY/WALDO? - Gotta love all the greebling here...
39. THE IRON GIANT - I like the film, but do I feel I need this on display? Not really.
46. THE METROPOLITAN: DON’T MISS YOUR TRAIN! - As much as I like it, I feel this will use so many more pieces than the end result will justify.
52. ANTIQUE CABINET - Looks great, even when the chair seems a bit like an afterthought. It just doesn't fit my interior style ;-)
62. THE MOON: EARTH'S COMPANION - As cool as it looks, this seems just too much of a boring mosaic to build.
69. THE HOURGLASS - While I like the idea, I just don't see it work. Which takes away most of the fun. Those recolored gears would be cool though...

Some random thoughts on the other ones:
1.DR. SEUSS AND LEGO - I can see them pick this, but personally don't care. Now if it had included Green Eggs and Ham....
3. THE BOTANICAL GARDEN - 41757
4. THE CROWN - A PIECE OF HISTORY - Nice, but looks like a pain to build.
12. SHREK'S SWAMP - 20TH ANNIVERSARY - I like Shrek, but it just doesn't seem to fit Lego.
15. SHREK’S SWAMP - Even worse.
16. BROOKLYN NINE-NINE: 99TH PRECINCT - The Office with other minifigs. This is not an Idea, this is just a rehash with another IP.
17. LED LAMP - Interesting, but how much effect would those 4 LEDs have?
19. OGEL CREEK SAW MILL - I could see them do something like this. It's just not for me.
24. TWILIGHT: CULLEN HOUSE - Probably 15 years too late. Rather boring house and does anyone still care about this crap?
26. RIVER SIDE LODGE - Nice, but again some cabin in the woods?
29. MONSTERS INC: THE DOOR TO MONSTROPOLIS - Can't help but feel the IP offers better opportunities than this.
30. ILJINAI FAMILY HOUSE - While I like it, probably too obscure?
33. LEGOLAND CENTRAL STATION - Cool, but there's just been a big station on BDP.
34. E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL - Don't care about the movie, but I like the effect of the "poster". But it also seems an utterly boring build to me.
35. AMETHYST GEODE - Cool idea, but again looks like a pain to build.
36. THE SCREAM - I think I like this more than the actual paining...
40. ROBOTIC MECH FACTORY - As much as I like it this feels like a case of get out your own parts and just be creative! Cool MOC, just not set material.
42. NARUTO: ICHIRAKU RAMEN SHOP - 25TH ANNIVERSARY - But don't care for Naruta and you can already get this from our friend Ali ;-)
43. DUCKTALES: THE MONEY BIN - Useless without thousands of coins. And even without those would probably end up way too expensive.
45. DEEJAY CHIAMA ITALIA - Does anyone outside of Italy know anything about this?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lots of great creativity . . . but I have a hard time seeing any of these getting approved.
Could we have an Ideas results with no selections??

That said, I'd love an Iron Giant or Portal Gun but I doubt they have the mass appeal to make it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The shrimp boat is my favorite in the list. It's just nice and straightforward.

The underground subway is great, and I'd definitely buy Godzilla.

I don't care about One Direction, but at least the beach scene is a really nice set even without the licensing. If it was reasonably priced, I'd buy it.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Oh wow, is there a limit to how long posts can be? Well, to finish things off...

50. STARDEW VALLEY FARMHOUSE - So plain and boring....
51. PARKS AND RECREATION - The Office again with other minifigs. Zero creativity.
53. GILMORE GIRLS - See 50.
54. COOL RUNNINGS: JAMAICA BOBSLEIGH TEAM - Sanka, you dead? Ya man!
56. HARRY STYLES - HARRY'S HOUSE - See 50 and 53.
57. BLACKPINK: HOW YOU LIKE THAT - I'm getting too old for this shit....
58. LANTERN IN THE WIND - This looks exactly like a thing you might find in an Asian garden anywhere in the world but in Asia...
59. THE ADDAMS FAMILY - Haven't we seen much better ones?
61. BRICKLINK-LEGO COLOR TABLE - WLWYB might want to have a word with the creator of this.
63. TAYLOR SWIFT - LOVER HOUSE - Jay, another one!

And as usual quite a number that can go straight to BDP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So many great entries. One of the strongest groups ever it will be hard to be disappointed with whatever Lego chooses to make. I'm hoping for Catan or Taylor Swift!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If that retro comic store is approved, we had better get a Stan Lee minifigure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As said by others, many of these are soo samey as other things, or pretty much will never have a chance because of licensing issues, really gotta wonder why they bother approving so many as they'll just never get made.

Gravatar
By in United States,

STARGATE SG-1!!!

Combine the two ideas - basically drop Captain Mutant’s The Stargate - love the minifig and Stargate designs - into Starbrick_SG1’s Embarkation Room, make sure to include General Hammond, Master Bra’Tac, Major Janet Fraiser, Chief Master Sergeant Walter Harriman, Master Sergeant Sylvester Siler, Major Paul Davis, Colonel Harold Maybourne, and a couple of SGC soldiers in addition to O’Neill, Carter, Jackson, Teal’c, Apophis, and a couple of his Serpent Guard Jaffa. Joanas Quinn, Thor, a Nox, and a Tolan (Narim with Schrödinger) would be awesome. This would be a day-1 buy for me.

I might also want the Retro Comic Store to wedge in-between my Marvel modulars.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Outside of the music videos and tv shows, I suspect I’ll be getting whatever they approve. I second @Huw on the Humpback Whale and E.T. (Not together cause that would be weird and not good weird like Star Trek IV).

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really hope the Aperture Science Handheld Quantum Tunneling Device wins. I’m a huge fan of Portal. It’s one of my favorite game series ever. The MOC faithfully recreates the portal gun.
All that we go from Aperture Science was the Dimensions Fun pack which came with Chell, a Turret and the Aperture Science weighted companion cube which cannot speak.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

A lot of what we’ve seen before with fresh paint. Not to mention some doubles? The only one I am in awe of is the chair with the antique cabinet, exquisite.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Frankly there’s several here that I would pay money for, I’m excited to see what makes it

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am not going to guess which one(s) get made into sets, been wrong too many times.

I will just say that the ones I would buy if made are:
Green Sea Turtle
The Iron Giant
The Moon picture

Gravatar
By in United States,

Owl House or Brooklyn 99 get my vote.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Rather love that old phone. Would look great on my office desk at work (and it would explain to people why I never answer).

Gravatar
By in United States,

would love to see Narnia get selected even if it’s a long shot

Gravatar
By in Germany,

80% of the time it's the most stupid yet theoretically good choice that gets produced and proceeds to shelfwarm like the Maze and Mars Rover.

So I guess in this round it's Radio, Multi-Tool, Colortable, Monsters Inc door or the geode.

Bluebrixx has the Stargate license right now, likely exclusive so no chance. Same with Star Trek.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Really hoping for Narnia, love those books and films

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Please Lego do not ignore the fact that we WANT an Addams Family set…….how many times has this Idea got through the 10k mark?????

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Possible, but adjusted/smaller: 1, 2, 9, 12-15, 29, 34, 69

Possible: 17, 20, 41, 44, 47, 51, 52, 60, 62, 70, 71

Unlikely: 4 - 8, 10, 11, 16, 18, 19, 21-25, 27, 28, 30-33, 35-37, 39, 40-43, 45, 46, 48-50, 53, 55-59, 61, 63-68

Similar set for sale: 3, 26, 38

If we kiss our lucky egg: 54

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Whale is interesting but too many border bricks. The LED lamp is also a cool design.
The rest is wearing down the scroll button on my mouse.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It will never happen but it would be great if they would give us reasons for each decision- especially around licensed ideas.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Personally I think all entries that have some minifigures leaning in from the left or right of the picture should be disqualified.

Too much of a template for your project.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The multitool is pretty clever and the addition of a brick separator is hilarious!

Gravatar
By in United States,

There are things that seem neat to me, Genoa, the Bionicle statue, DuckTales.

BUT... I personally think there is a bigger issue at play here. Ideas is to popular now for its own good. The threshold for an Idea to reach the review stage should be raised to 15,000 or 20,000 votes now that the site is so big; since we keep having these reviews of 50+ projects. It gets hard to actually keep track of what is being considered.

I remember the early days of Cuusoo when it felt like the whole LEGO community was on pins and needles waiting to see if the "Not Warhammer" Space Marines or the Western Town would pass review, and the uproar when they didn't. Now it feels like no Idea is truly special since so many just get slammed through in each review, sometimes things that failed previous reviews like the consistent Big Boy locomotive suggests come up again and again as new people try and push the same idea once more. It gets, tiring. The vote threshold needs to be raised to account for the flood of users now on that site.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The only one I’d pay money for is a decent Lego color palette build.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I was hoping for the astronaut from this bunch but that's not happening now after the Creator one...

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Sponge Bob, Adams famijy or Shrek. Anything else is not for me.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I would pay a stupid amount of money for a Daft Punk set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think, if they can sort the licensing, Lego would be insane not to strike while the iron is hot and pick Bluey.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like wizard hut.. probably would not go together with viking village.
I want put them next each other

Gravatar
By in United States,

The only ideas I’m interested in, from least wanted to most wanted
3: mech factory: I’m only doing this as I really like the YouTuber behind it, the B3
2: bionicle toa head: I’m not a huge bionicle fan, but this is something I would really like
1 eda’s owl house: I’m a massive fan of the owl house, and I would buy this day 1

Gravatar

They stole that idea!

j/k :o)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh dear, I'm feeling old and cynical looking at these Ideas submissions.

After you've taken out the modulars, the licences that are no-go, the ones that won't translate well to actual retail sets, the ones with an appeal that is just too niche, the sitcom dioramas, and everything else that's riding on the coat tails of previous successes there's not a lot left. I do like the humpback whale.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Humpback whale is gorgeous and unique, but I fear the sheer volume of brick required will lead to an unfortunate price point, much like the Shadow Box earlier this year. More traditional flat art sets like the Spiderman or Great Wave have been able to be much better priced than this would inevitably be

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think Shrek should be a lock just because there's two submissions in this group. They could take elements of both models, since they're both of the same thing, and produce a really awesome set.

Other than that, I think the astronaut is out because of the very similar looking Creator set due for release next year. Any modular style buildings are also probably out, and I think the Spongebob set is also unlikely since we've had Spongebob sets in the past. There's also a few IPs that are likely too "out there," Daft Punk being one of the weirdest IMO.

Personally, in addition to Shrek, I would most want to see one of the castle-theme designs and the BIONICLE head, but there are several others I would be happy with, including a lot of the IPs. Elf would be a great choice.

Gravatar
By in Chile,

I want the BIONICLE Head!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Portal Gun, Howls Moving Castle, and Catan would be day 1 buys for me!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Stargate or Bionicle head are all I want.

The rest can all be shelf warmers.

By in Australia,

There are a bunch here I think we can rule out.
Botanic Garden is out because of the Friends botanic garden (which is still on shelves)
Soyuz is out because of what's going on with Russia
Medieval Market is out because they are already (per the strong credible leaks) doing a medieval market.
the steam train is out because they just did a train (Orient Express) and although this one is totally different they wouldn't want to do any train again so soon.
Riverside Lodge is too close to the A-Frame Cabin.
I doubt they would want to do another artwork in the same general "impressionist" style as Starry Night so soon so I think Scream is out.
The astronaut is way too close to the new Creator 3-in-1- set to be made.
If the rumors are true and we are getting Peppa Pig then I can't see them also wanting to do another similar show aimed at the same target audience (i.e. Bluey)
Lantern in the Wind looks too similar to the Tranquil Garden
LEGO Color Table is out of the question, what with all the colors that no longer exist and etc.

By in Australia,

Stargate is definitely top of my wish-list though (I wish they would either do it or say a flat "NO" and not allow it on the site at all)

By in United States,

Not a whole lot grabbing me from this round. I might enjoy the Radio, but I'd want some kind of clever interaction--maybe have internal parts or something. Dr. Seuss is really cute and I'd possibly get that. I'd also get Stargate, but that'll never happen. I do like the Moon poster but don't see that one passing either.

I'm gonna guess Godzilla. Has almost 70 years of media with current and future media. Seemingly easy to license. Easy to expand to with other monsters like kong, mothra, Ghidorah. Easy to rerelease in different versions. Could also be scaled to fit in scale to modulars.

Im Hoping Shrek, Bluey or the Elf. Any of those are classics and would be for sure loved by many.

@ElephantKnight,
@Murdoch17 & @MutoidMan :
Like @Anonym has correctly said, BlueBrixx has the official Stargate licence and is currently finalizing the first wave of sets, so zero chance.
That's the only 100% certain prediction about this selection I can make.

I wonder why people with an interest in brick built versions of certain IPs don't have such things on their radar tbh. It's like with all other popular IPs that alternatives have the official licence for, like Masters of the Universe, Star Trek, Halo, Naruto, etc.
Speaking of Naruto, this exact set suggested here has been officially available for years, and not only from Aliexpress. Why anyone that is a fan of the subject matter doesn't know that is beyond me. It's literally the first result when you do a Google search. And a high quality product too, with all printed pieces that put any LEGO print to shame.

As for the other proposals, there's quite a few that I like, but almost 100% of those are guaranteed to get rejected.

My favorite does indeed seem to have a chance - the Humpback Whale. But I would only be interested if the final product looks exactly like the submission. But since LEGO is likely to make a travesty out of it again during their "optimization" phase I will probably not buy the final product if there ever will be one at all.

I would so hope that LEGOLAND Central Station goes straight to the BDP, since there's zero chance of it getting chosen here, let alone being sold as a set looking like the proposal.
If that exact design had been this year's Modular I would have bought it instantly, no matter the cost. Never have I seen such an awesome looking train station MOC.

And @WemWem : I'm absolutely no fan of Taylor Swift's music, but at least that build looks like it could be a fun play set for kids. The BTS set otoh looks just like a lazy cash grab with no plus points except for the minifigs - if one is a fan of the band.
Speaking of which, Taylor Swift at least is indeed a megastar known the world over with her songs being played on every radio station daily, whereas I still have to come across a single BTS song on any radio station I know of. I had to actively search for them on Spotify to even find a song by them (and all I found were so forgettable that it's no wonder they are not more popular over here).

Hoping for Shrek or Bluey, but there's quite a few good ones.

I would also be obligated to get the Lover House.

By in United Kingdom,

I would love to see an E.T. set approved, like the one here that captures the film's iconic movie poster, especially if it came with E.T. and Elliot minifigs plus bike, but perhaps it would feel like overkill with respect to Spielberg-based sets, coming so soon after the Jaws boat was approved.

Still, I have a faint hope that E.T., still one of the greatest family films of all time, is an IP that'll one day get its due in Lego form.

@MartyMcFly I get the cynicism regarding sitcom sets, but after last week's sad announcement concerning Andre 'Captain Raymond Holt' Braugher's death, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is definitely the kind of set I could do with right now.

Lots of these are really brilliant. For the first time in a very long time, there are many strong contenders.

"I really like the LED lamp.

Why would you want to trigger toxicity? I was always under the impression that misogyny, racism, homophobia and other forms of toxic behaviour was something we should avoid or at least change, rather than maliciously look forward to in the hope of confirming our prejudices/watching a pathetic culture war feud.

That's NOT an argument against the Taylor Swift House, by the way. If it's done well (which, unfortunately, the BTS set was not; and fwiw, I generally like BTS, even if I'm more apathetic when it comes to Swift), I welcome any set based on any IP, whatever its market/core demographic. The beauty of Lego, at least in theory, is that it caters to so many different groups and interests, and whilst no set is, or even should be, for everyone, many sets can often have broad appeal outside its intended base, based on the quality of the build/overall design. The Hocus Pocus House is, for instance, probably my favourite set of 2023, and yet I don't have any particular strong feelings for the film (which I generally regard as mediocre; but more power to anyone who is a fan of the movie).

But my hope is that if the Taylor Swift House were, hypothetically, approved, typical AFOLs (which mostly, it appears, tend to be white men) would welcome the selection with an open mind rather than automatically pouring scorn, and thus engaging in yet another pointless, off-putting and exhausting bad faith culture war argument.

I hate to get all political, but it's the equivalent of MAGA-hats trying to 'trigger snowflake liberals.' Just enjoy and support what you like, without feeling the need to *intentionally* offend, trigger or incite anyone else.

By in Sweden,

Lego should just produce a generic office/apartment set that could be customized to every existing tv-show, this is getting out of hand.

I specially made an account to show my support for 21. Lego Godzilla. It is unlike anything else that has been made before and would be an instant buy for me. I can already see this Kaiju walking down a street lined with modular buildings while the minifigures are running scared in all directions :-)

By in Netherlands,

I can see them doing the shrimp boat, the radio and the cabinet (pretty meta to have a cabinet for lego in a cabinet for lego). I also can see them doing the moon (more than the ET one, but both are good) and if they want to make money they should make the metro because a lot of afols need to raise their cities then, and they need bricks to do that. So ka-ching!

Obviously I’m replying late and we know it didn’t happen this time (though with just two approvals from a batch of more than 70 proposals, it came closer than I’d have expected), but yes. They’ve had Ideas review results with nothing approved, on more than one occasion.

Because I would like a LEGO brick-built Stargate SG-1 set, with LEGO minifigures of the team and their supporting characters. I’m not interested in any other brand.

Oh I just realized I neglected to include Major Charles Kawalsky; gotta have Kawalski!

By in United States,

I can't imagine the creator of the Bricklink Color Table ever thought that this would get approved. There are retired colors in there that haven't been used in over a decade...possibly longer. I'd imagine Lego prints all these and puts them out on a conference table to narrow down the selection to what might be possible. That color table was definitely eliminated in the first round if not first overall.

Ah ok, that would explain it.
I'm not the least bit interested in minifigs of characters, I only care about the build, the look of the finished result, and the quality and value of the sets. Hence why LEGO is often only second choice for me nowadays.
