Martian Manhunter
Posted by Huw,
Martian Manhunter, also known as J'onn J'onzz and John Jones, is a super hero from the planet Mars and is the last surviving member of his race. He's a DC Comics character who first appeared in 1953. Along with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman, he's an original member of the Justice League.
No, I'd never heard of him either until I looked all that up on Wikipedia. However I do know that he's free with purchases over $75 / £50 from shop.LEGO.com at the moment in the US, Canada and UK. Mine arrived yesterday.
It comes packed in a polybag. The cape is not in a cardboard box so take extreme care if you open the bag with a knife or scissors.
The printing is superb.
Despite wearing a cape, the back is printed too.
There are thousands of images of MM on Google and while I can't see any that look exactly like this one in terms of his costume, LEGO appear to have captured the 'essence' of the character very well.
There's not much more to say about him really, other than he's a very nice minifigure that DC fans will want for their collection.

Maybe one day we will get a set with the Big 7 included.
One of my fav DC characters so very glad to add to my collection.
It'd be amazing to have a JL Satalite/moon base set with all the main league lineup but it would only appeal to a small crowd so would have to be massively priced for TLG to get a good return on it
I think this costume is based on the Lego Batman: The Movie. Both are modeled after the new 52 Martian Manhunter costume.
^As mentioned, his suit seems to be based closely on the 'new 52' version (where DC basically relaunched their titles) http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r9SjIf6-Dn0/UdjRNYvNpxI/AAAAAAAAMMw/A6OprVH_Dsw/s1600/New52-Martian-Manhunter-04.jpg.
Personally I'd have prefered the more 'classic' look of the animated series http://s3images.coroflot.com/user_files/individual_files/451894_RtylXuN9VPign6TVsNFIfrB6A.jpeg but hey, you can't please everybody!
Might be good for a general Martian collection, if you're into that.
*and purchases over $100 in Australia as well
J'onn is one of the "founding members" of the JLA in many stories, including the Dini/Timm animated Justice League. He's the heart & soul, even if he's not one of the A-listers. Very happy with this figure. Shame he's not super-easy for folks to get but far more accessible than SDCC Phoenix, Bizarro and Shazam! =P
With the Flash out now, too, all that is really "needed" is mass-market Green Lantern figure. Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, J'onn Jonzz, GL, FLash. Aquaman is a solid 7th. Wonder if we will get a Hawkgirl at some point. Probably we'd get Cyborg before that, due to his appearance in Lego Batman 2.
Now I need make him an Oreo cookie.

I like it, but I feel like there's a new trend with Lego promotional polybags to include only a minifigure. While that's the most exciting part of many polybags anyway, I'd prefer some kind of additional scenic element, even if it's as rudimentary as Iron Patriot's gun mounting system (30168).
You know, I still kind of wish we get the Barry Allen Flash, instead of the Wally West one...Nothing against the latter, just the former is so much more JL material...
My first exposure to the character of Martian Manhunter was his cameo in Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman". He's definitely nowhere near as mainstream as the other Justice League founding members, but he's still a pretty significant part of the Justice League, and it's great to get him as a minifigure.
Still waiting on a widely-available, comics-inspired Green Lantern minifigure, though! Now that all the other Justice League founding members are available as figs and a Green Lantern fig has been teased with a key light at Toy Fair, it can't be long now!
He has really nice cape. I think it hasn't appeared in this color since earliest HP sets ...
Watch Justice League: New Frontiers and any of the Justice League: Unlimited toons for some great stories with this guy. He is one of my favorite League members as well and I am happy to have him.
I think for Hawkman or Hawkgirl, we already have the perfect mold in the Chima Eagles figs. Slightly different printing and different costumes would make for some great Thanagarians.
Looking forward to getting mine in the next few days. I second the call for a mass-release Green Lantern (though I'd prefer a LOT of Green Lanterns), though I do think Lego are being pretty shrewd releasing non-Batman DC characters in Batman sets. I'm not a big Batman fan but I've bought a couple of sets now to get the additional characters.
Jo
Also, gimme the Thanagarians
They are going for $25 on ebay so even if you dont want it just flip it and save $25 on your latest lego order.
I had no idea of his fondness for Chocos (oreos). Funny reading that since studies have since shown Oreos have a similar addictive chemical to make people crave them. And no it has nothing to do with their flavor since I find them incredibly disgusting.
Either way, great to get this figure. I wanted 2 (one sealed, one opened), but I don't have that much interest in spending that much at LEGO.com just yet. I also don't want to pay that much on ebay, so I'll just stick with my one. Now to open or not to open, that is the question.
I don't know anything about the .....' less well known ' Superheroes characters but I love this figure.
Also love the Electro figure in the Small Spiderman set. Nice to see some new ones being produced.
@fikko3107 Actually, that IS Barry, just in his New 52 duds.
Unless the minifigure has green eyes, that chinstrap makes him new Barry.

Would really, really like to see more Marvel figures released like this (Captain Marvel, anyone? I don't see her showing up in a set anytime soon...).
Huw: "No, I'd never heard of him either..."
Hmm, sounds like you're making a rather large assumption, there, Huw. ;)
In addition to all the calls for a Green Lantern minifig, I'd like to see some other heroines represented besides Wonder Woman and Batgirl. Supergirl would be an obvious choice, but I'd also like to see Black Canary, Huntress, or Power Girl. How's that for obscure? LOL
*Gasp!* Never heard of Martian Manhunter?! Weird. Anyway, some nerd knowledge for all of you:
In The Brave and the Bold 28, which features the first appearance of the Justice League, Martian Manhunter sees way more action and "panel time" than both Superman AND Batman, who are revealed as members of the JL in this issue, but do not even take part in their first mission!
I proudly own one of these figs and agree with Huw completely. Really nice minifig with some great printing. Really need a Green Lantern now!
Also, J'onn here is a very capable shapeshifter, so I'd love to see some custom creations of J'onn shapeshifting using some green bricks!
I'm so glad we got a Martian Manhunter figure. It's about time, to be honest.
But with Flash available, we now have 6 of the core Big 7 Leaguers.
We just need to get a Green Lantern to get a proper release, and we'll get all seven. That'll be a *great* day.
For the record, I didn't mind spending a hundred dollars at Lego.com, because there was a few things I wanted anyway (the Jedi Interceptor, and the Plumber's Van from the Movie sets), and I love the seasonal stuff (like the rabbit for Easter). I figure if I was gonna buy all those things anyway, I might as well buy them all at once for J'onn.
Excellent Martian Manhunter minifig!
Anticipating (hoping?) for a Green Lantern in one of the LEGO Movie sets. That means Cyborg has to be next, as he is in the core of the new 52 JL. Green Arrow (maybe in another Batman set), the Hawks, the Atom and Black Canary maybe next. But if LEGO really wants to did deeper, any chance of Red Tornado, Zatanna, Elongated Man, and of course, my favorite, FIRESTORM? One can always dream.
Snapper Carr would be cool too.
I've just received this minifig with my latest online LEGO shop order. I say with my latest order, more specifically, it came on its own as a separate delivery (nothing wrong there) in a box large enough for a 9493 XWing or there abouts. I guess the guys packing the boxes were asleep at the time!
Nice minifig though.
