Bricktastic: The UK's biggest and best LEGO event returns this year
Posted by Huw,Bricktastic, the biggest and best LEGO event in the UK, which is organised by and run for the benefit of our favourite charity Fairy Bricks, will take place again this year at the end of February.
The two-day event will be held at Manchester Central over the weekend of 24-25 February 2024.
Over 160 of the most talented builders from across Europe and further afield will be displaying their models at the event, which this year is being held in a much larger hall than before. There'll also be plenty of hands-on activities and shopping opportunities, too, and after the success of the live 'Bricktastic Masters' competition last year, there'll be another one this year.
Brickset is proud to be the main event sponsor, and I will be there, collaborating with six others on the biggest GBC circuit seen in the UK in recent years.
Find out more at the event's website then buy your tickets in advance, and do so ASAP because several timeslots have already sold out.
I look forward to seeing many of you there!

This sounds so awesome. Pity I won't be able to attend, but I'd love to one day.

I think glueing yourself to the floor and chanting,
We want Bluebrixx,
When do we want it. Now.
Might get frowned upon!

Perhaps there's room in the calendar for a Bluebrixxtastic event somewhere!

You see, you get a completely wrong impression of me just by reading my comments on Brickset.
The thing is, I love brick building, I simply don't care what brand it is nowadays, as long as price and quality go together reasonably.
I love awesome MOCs and I admire the creators of GBCs for their creativity and technical skills, which are way beyond mine.
As for BlueBrixx, I mainly love their Star Trek sets as well as their "Specials" line of themes that LEGO doesn't do, like detailed medieval buildings, realistic Trains of European prototypes, and vehicles. I also very much like their "Pro" line of sets based on German buildings like the Frauenkirche Dresden, Semperoper, Hohenzollern Castle, Hamburger Michel, etc.
But just because I buy and build alternative sets too doesn't mean I don't buy and build LEGO any longer.
And I don't wear rose-tinted glasses either when it comes to quality of alternatives. Early BlueBrixx sets for example had mediocre quality at best, and even their current ones leave room for improvement.
But the thing is, their quality, like that of many alternatives, has improved noticeably over the years and still does, while LEGO's quality has declined in recent years from my experience. Ymmv of course, but I have built so many sets over the years that I think I can make a reasonable judgment about the matter.
I suppose I'd better get working on my display then!

And room in a phone box to hold it!
Just joking, before Mr Touchy writes another essay :-)
This really is a great event and a lot of fun. I go every year and I highly recommend it. The displays are superb and the GBC is mesmerizing. I normally spend a good 3 or 4 hours looking at everything there.
I wish they would return to the Excel center in London, which I think was pre covid the last time it happened , ah well
WE NEED LEGO CON BACK!
